How do kids get into WWE these days?
Knineteen : 5/21/2018 12:23 pm : link
Isn't everything aired at night?

When I was young, you'd watch WWF at noon on the weekends.
Thats a big deal
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/21/2018 12:25 pm : link
for WWE
It's a valid question
QB Snacks : 5/21/2018 12:26 pm : link
and a big part of why the products demographic is getting older, not younger.

They should, IMO, put smackdown on Saturday mornings on Fox. Not gonna happen but would be smart long term thinking

Starts at 8pm. Kids stay up later now from what I’ve seen, so it isn’t terribly late.

The product will get better when HHH gets control of creative. NXT is all him, and the product is 20 times better.
It will be a tradeoff though in my opinion

I don't think Triple H and Stephanie will have even half the business acumen Vince does and even Linda did when she was part of the company.

20 times doesnt do justice.. 50 times is more like it.

though the storylines on Smackdown are way better than Raw.

not to mention, Roman Reigns just sucks. Even cena is better than Roman

UConn4523 : 5/21/2018 1:40 pm : link
it’s the product. Growing up durin the attitude era it was must see TV. Since they went PG there’s many kids who likely think it’s lame. They won’t ever go back but if they did I bet viewership would spike in certain age groups.
As long as they are public

They'll always be family friendly and I just don't think you'll ever see what you saw in the late 90s and early 00s again. I don't blame them for that either to be honest. There's no reason to risk it with the amount of money they are currently making. I wouldn't either.

They could have their own off brand company on the network that could cater to a more adult company.

Also there is some talks that, WWE is reaching out to Indy companies to see if they would like broadcast their product on the network. Giving them opportunities that they otherwise would never have.

there were articles out a while back saying the average age of WWE fans is trending way older than it used to. This is obviously anecdotal, but I don't know of a single wrestling fan among my kids' friends. They all know who John Cena is because he hosts the Kids Choice awards, but they're not watching Raw, they don't have subscriptions to the network, they don't have the toys, or wear the gear, etc. In my town, you're more likely to see a kid with a Messi jersey than anything wrestling related. Luckily for WWE, they've figured out how to monetize the fans they do have. Seems like a one hour show on the Disney Channel or Nick would do a lot towards getting young kids into it.

REPORT: NEW WWE SMACKDOWN DEAL WORTH ONE BILLION DOLLARS (NOT A TYPO)
By Mike Johnson on 2018-05-21 14:00:00
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the WWE's deal with FOX to bring Smackdown Live there starting October 2019 is a five year pact worth one billion (with a capital "B") dollars.

That would work out to $205 million per year and is thee times more than the company was getting for the series on the USA Network. USA Network will be retaining Monday Night Raw, according to reports.

The Wrap is reporting the Smackdown series will be moving to Fridays, which given the amount of money that is being thrown around, pretty much means the company is going live on Fridays.

I think having a Friday Show is going to be

great for the business.

The Raw and Smackdown being back to back is brutal. I barely watch 1 hour of Raw, and just maybe check a minute of Smackdown from time to time.

The few days off break will definitely be better for the Smackdown brand.

They sacrificed the quality of the product. It's been basically unwatchable for the last 15 years. Sure there have been some cool times (the CM Punk era, Rated R Superstar Edge, Nexus, Cena not being on TV), but it's been mostly uninspired, recycled shit.

It has nothing to do with me "liking it"

I don't understand adults still watching the cartoons they watched when they were growing up. I honestly am interested in why an adult (some of you guys may even be married with kids?) watches professional wrestling ... or cartoons ... or the equivalent ... do you buy professional wrestling trading cards?

Sorry, I can't help the digs ... I mean, seriously, I'd be making fun of my son if he was watching this stuff after his 15th birthday... do you hide this from your family? close friends?

Saying wrestling is fake is a pointless argument

Due to the scripted nature of the program. Film and television are not ad-libbed improv. They're scripted too. And yet you go into that knowing it, and without a second thought. I think it's safe to say everyone here knows the programs are scripted. So using that as a basis to argue against wrestling is a poor argument.

I'll answer your question with a question. What is the difference between WWE and superhero movies?

They're essentially the same thing. Conflict between two entities. Each have their own super powers (or special moves in WWE case). The difference is one is told live through performance art.

Instead of calling me names, how about trying to explain the attraction of WWE to you. Maybe you're 15 or under and, if so, I get it. Maybe if you are single... ? But if you are married, with a full time job and family to support, what is the attraction then to WWE? Is this something you see yourself watching forever, no matter how old you get? Do you watch with others?
