He has really taken advantage of his second chance and I applaud him for that. I hope that he keeps it up because the Giants really need him this season.
Give Apple a break (but just ONE).
it is up to him to prove he is an adult
Hopefully, he gets it and plays the way he can.
Or, next year, new crop of DB's in draft
So far so good. He has to prove what he's been saying Â
But sort of a weird article format. Would've preferred to just see Apple's comments/answers and the questions instead of the reporter trying to play psychoanalyst with each answer.
You could have cut the tension between him and the rest of the team with a knife.
He would not go near the rest of the team, literally positioned himself 10 to 15 yards from his teammates. IIRC one player, and I don't recall who, exchanged a couple of words with him the entire game.
I hope he got his head straightened out because he has a ton of talent. It would be ashame to waste what might have been a good career.
to go along with all the maturity issues is he is not very good. You try to work through the problems if the player is a stud. Its not worth the headaches for an average at best player. God Awful pick by Reese.
Apple flashed plenty that he has the tools to become a very solid player. Last year he was awful, and I really like what I am hearing from the kid as he is owning up to his mistakes, that is called maturity, something we ridiculed him for lacking last year.
I'm rooting for the player, we will definitely need him or QB's will be having career games against our secondary on a weekly basis.
he has the tools to be exceptional. I'll take good, but his culpability is great start.
He had a lot of personal bullshit to deal with and didn't have the support system to deal with it. It happens, but I'm hopeful in that he's owning some of it.

I disagree. He was good in 2016 and not as good in 2017, but the entire team was shitty in 2017.
He was a #10 overall pick and is just entering his 3rd year. He came in the draft as a red shirt sophomore and therefore was rough around the edges, but everyone had him going as a top 15 pick based on upside. He is 22 years old and has plenty of maturing to do both on and off the field, but if the new leadership can get him on the right track he can be a very good starter for us.
Way too early to jump to the conclusions you allude to in your post.

Really not accurate at all. He had a good rookie season. If you want to get rid of him for last year, well, I’m glad you aren’t in charge.
put their eggs in his basket and got rid of what they determined a problem in DRC. He has to be confident knowing the Giants didn't pick anyone up. Apple will be the starter and they need him.
He's a "swing player" for the D. His performance will have a big impact on the bottom line.
but I think many of you may need to temper your expectations on his performance for this year.
First, he did not play GOOD in 2016...he played at average and had ups/downs as most rookies do but at least could be counted on to hold up on the outside. That is not the same as GOOD.
He played downright BAD in 2017, and a lot of it early when the season was still not yet in the shitter for him personally and the team as a whole.
Development in the NFL is not linear, and I believe that is especially true at Cornerback. Apple still has plenty to learn out there regarding playing the ball in the air, cutting down on penalties and playing with proper leverage against bigger WRs/TEs.
We absolutely need him to step up due to our talent-shortage at CB, so I hope he does his best to improve his game as a professional along with keeping up this new attitude.
He played well enough to have DRC moved from a position where Â
he excelled for years. The 2016 Giants felt their best lineup was having Apple on the field. It counts for something. The reason why it was surprising or upsetting that he played so poorly in 2017 is precisely because of how well he held up as a rookie, playing a key role on a very good defense that had expectations. The logical thing was to expect him to be even better in year two.
Yes it is logical for him to be better in Yr 2 but like I mentioned Â
expect more variation game to game than just continued improvement as his skill-set needs plenty of maturity.
And btw, the plan early was to have DRC move to slot because Apple and Jenkins do not fit that bill at all. And I also think there was some potential front office involvement in that decision as well as DRC's footing on the team was a bit tenuous.
He's 6'2", 200, runs a 4.40 and has long arms. If he can just get his head screwed on straight - which is a major ask; and have his mom move to overseas - there is still major upside there.
The real cancer on this team last year was McAdoo. I hope Eli Apple has a terrific year and really turns everything around. Let’s not kid ourselves, he’s got a long way to go before the Giants on the field are going to really trust him. But the opportunity is there and I hope Eli makes the most of his second chance. I sure hope having a real NFL coaching staff helps this young man become a great Giant.

Hopefully, the cleaned culture will help both young men grow up quickly.

I think they will ... but, to a certain extent - he is going to have to earn their trust and respect back.
I think you mean why can't ALL fans do the same.
And the answer is because fans don't have to...

just sayin'...
