The #Giants signed former #Panthers and #Bucs WR and special teamer Russell Shepard to a 1-year deal worth $1.3M that can be worth up to $2M with incentives, source said.
Kind of strange to cut Scott so early. Not like it is a deep position.
Does he need to have R Shepard on the back of his jersey to distinguish him from Sterling? I remember Dave Brown having his whole name on there for awhile. That was awkward.
While yes, that's true, but I don't know how many times a team would spend for veteran free agents just for special teams play. They already signed Michael Thomas, who is a special teams ace.

Fair point. But I don't think they're looking at him them more then the 4th WR spot. There's no guarentee either player makes the roster and it's unlikely that if they fail to make it there would be serious cap ramifications.
And I mean the past two years in total he had 40 receptions for 500+ yards, 3 TDs. That's not nothing. If nothing else at least we know he can compete for a WR spot, where we're very thin.

I'm sure Tim Scott had a contract as well.

Let's remember how bad they were last year.
