Solder working with Flowers after practice again. Building a camaraderie.
This is a potential side effect of the Solder signing. I know he didn’t rank among the tops in the league at LT but beyond being bettter than anything we’ve had there in years, if he can motive and mentor Flower into a better player it would be huge.
To me, the Giants were unwatchable last year. They weren't just bad -- they've been bad before and I could still watch them -- they were unwatchable.
If nothing else, I think under Shurmur they will be watchable. You'll actually recognize what's happening as football, which wasn't always the case last year.

I could not agree more. I turned off more games last year than I ever have.
All of you missed the only "news" in the interview Â
I'm sure it will be posted on the WFAN website. Listen to it again. The part where he starts to talk about the bright light lights of NYC. Shurmur started to say how surprised he was about how soft/bad the culture was/is and then he caught himself and stopped and changed the subject. Francesa tried to get him to go back to it but the moment passed.
It sounds like there is much work to do. I'm not buying in on Eli Apple or Erik Flowers for a minute. The coach and GM are doing what they have to do, trying to get some production from high 1st rounds picks. But those guys didn't get character transplants in the last 6 months. They're both on borrowed time.

Or not. Glass have empty, go for it. I think it’s a bit unfair and uneducated to pin everything on the players and not also acknowledge that maybe the reason for it was due to McAdoo and/or Reese.
I have no idea what will happen, but I think the biggest problems this team had last year are gone, and that’s a good thing.
these guys slates are clean...they were young and dumb...weren't we all ..... give them a pass ...see what happens this yr.sounds like they are trying...if so it could be a plus...theres talent there....hope we can extract it....

Yeah, I'm taking a cargo ship full of salt on this happening the way you made it sound.

I too agree with this -- it was the most painful season ever for me -- it was a horror -- kinda like the eye torture in Clockwork Orange - except I had the power to look away

Great word: “unwatchable” That sums up last year perfectly. I actually did not watch several quarters, which is a first for me as a fan in thirty years

I didn't take that to be so much about the team's culture. It was more about the attitude and style of play he wanted. He talked about the bright lights and NYC having all that glitzes but over here we want a blue collar team.
he was contrasting the glitz across the river of NYC with wanting a blue collar team.
He said he has spoken to guys like Strahan and Tuck and they stressed that the Giants have been at their best when they had that blue collar mentality.
was "there's somethings he didn't expect" and Francesa jumped on it and said what and then as usual Francesa started answering his own question and talking over Shurmur. In the context the conversation was going it's pretty clear he was surprised at how bad the situation off the field was when he got there. Shurmur did say he wants a blue collar team and he spoke to Tuck & Strahan about defense and all the talking points a NY Giants head coach should fall back on. We'll see how it goes when it counts but I think the Giants made a good hire this time.
I wasn't listening super closely and I do remember Francessa asking the "something he didn't expect" part, and of course Francessa interrupting, so who knows..
It wouldn't shock me, especially with so many in the media predicting great things prior to the season, that some players got full of themselves, soft and enjoyed the NY nightlife a little too much.

Same here. I usually had the games on in the background, but I was doing something else and not really paying attention.
OL and CB are our two main weak links right now and both of these guys were top 10 overall draft picks and now entering their 3rd/4th years. We need them to step up and contribute as STARTERS and play well. If both can do that I think the Giants have the other pieces in place needed to make run at the playoffs.
I know he didn’t rank among the tops in the league at LT but beyond being bettter than anything we’ve had there in years...

Solder is only average or slightly above average? The guy is a stud. He was playing hurt at the beginning of the season. I believe he missed most of the offseason. Once he got back to game speed and got healthier he was dominant. Gave up only 3 sacks in the last 15 games of the season. From week 9 until the end of the season (Playoffs & SB included) he was the 3rd rated OT on PFF and he was the 2nd rated LT.
In 2016 when he was PFF 8th ranked OT and there 59th ranked overall player. PFF said he would have been higher on the list if it wasn't for the Super Bowl. Which he had a bad game.

Shurmur's offense seems like a neat mix between blue collar and finesse.

*Fixes the all-important LT position.
*Fixes 2 positions (LT and RT.)
*Fixes Flowers...? Certainly trying.
*Fixes Eli's internal clock.
*Provides overall team leadership.
That's what you pay the big bucks for. Carrying a lot more value than simply playing LT.
