Eagles releasing veteran LB Mychal Kendricks, per source. Kendricks spent six years with Eagles; he’s not expected to be unemployed long.

Strange, he's in his prime

perhaps contract related.

Probably. Cap # was $7.6M with $4.4M in savings ($7M in savings if designated June 1 cut, though not sure that's still an option).

and Eagles were only ~$300k under the cap

(per OTC) which likely doesn't include this year's draft class.
Too bad we dont have the money.
Nysportsfn13 : 5/22/2018 3:49 pm : link
He is in his prime and a top LB last year.
Would be a nice add to compete with Goodson for the other ILB

spot, but I'm sure there are plenty of teams who would love to sign him.
We could use

Him. 100%.
I'd prefer him over Ogletree

I wouldn't go that far, but Kendricks is certainly a nice piece
Definitely ought to see if we can swing a deal.

Still need LBs around here.
Ogletree's best pro play
JonC : 5/22/2018 4:01 pm : link
was at 4-3 WILL, playing inside a 3-4 doesn't deploy him to his best strengths, as he's shown. Hopefully he'll figure it out as he's still a young dude as well.

That's true, but Ogletree is still a better player than Kendricks. Meanwhile, I don't think Kendricks has been in a 3-4 since our old coach Bill Davis was running the Eagles D.

I wonder if its realistic for us
Nysportsfn13 : 5/22/2018 4:16 pm : link
if we are going to extend Odell? We could prob lower his cap hit this year doing it.

still dont think it happens but it would be a real good move if we could.
We've got ~$8M in space

Need some for the draft picks, but they can easily create more room if needed.

Terps wouldn't like it, but they could convert some of Vernon's/Jenkin's base to a bonus and pro-rate it over their remaining years.
Weird day to cut a vet LB when they have another vet LB tear a knee...

Eagles LB Paul Worrilow suffers torn ACL during OTAs

The Eagles' linebacker depth took a big hit on the first day of organized team activities.

Veteran Paul Worrilow suffered a torn ACL in Tuesday's OTAs, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. He is done for the 2018 season.

Worrilow was carted off the field after colliding with a teammate during practice, per multiple reporters on the scene. Worrilow had an air cast placed on his right leg, indicating a potentially serious knee injury.

Worrilow, 28, signed with Philadelphia in early April after recording 30 tackles as a part-time starter in Detroit last season.

A 43-game starter in his first three NFL seasons with the Falcons, Worrilow has fallen into a rotational role the past two years. He was ostensibly brought in to provide insurance at middle linebacker with starter Jordan Hicks recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

With Worrilow done for the season, the Eagles likely will be in the market for another journeyman linebacker.

I had the same thought

FW.
He wanted out last year, so
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/22/2018 4:26 pm : link
he could go play in LA.
I talked to my Eagles friend.
robbieballs2003 : 5/22/2018 4:31 pm : link
He said he likes Kendricks but Schwartz had it in for him for some reason and Kendricks is a bit of a loner which was odd for a team as closely knit as the Eagles are.

So, nothing earth shattering but it sounds like there was a combination of him not fitting in and high cap number which led to his release. My buddy also said that they have been shopping him. So, I guess there weren't any takers at that salary.
I am assuming that they gave him a deadline to restructure
Essex : 5/22/2018 4:32 pm : link
and he said No. They didn't want to pay the June 1st money and just did it today. Worilow is a JAG, I assume he would not factor into the decision because they can probably replace him pretty easily. Kendricks they won't be able to replace easily, but I guess he is a salary cap cut.
Sounds like he might be

Rams or Chargers bound.

You have a friend that is a talking Eagle? Fuck that's cool
I would be all in on Kendricks

Worth a call.
Worst that could happen: he says no.

The $$$$,: they can find it.

Kendricks is still very good. He's going to find a new home quickly. Wish it could be here.
How about redoing

OV contract?
Kendricks has a ton of talent...

...having said that, sans last year, he was having trouble staying on the field and was rumored to be released in previous seasons.

Last year he played well, but the norm might be his past seasons. Eagles probably feel the same way.

An interesting

Giants have a potential out after this season on the OV contract
JonC : 5/23/2018 7:46 am : link
Given the price tag and his actual contribution, I'd rather hold onto that card ...
Because of cap limitations,
section125 : 5/23/2018 8:02 am : link
I think we have what we have minus a few league minimum tweaks here and there.

Unless they get Odell a new contract that reduces his $8 mill cap hit, or cut either Eli or Janoris post June 1 ($11 mill savings), I think they are done with mid-level to high level signings.
There are a few $1 mill contracts that can save money (i.e., Ray-Ray armstrong), but....

Nah, he didn't play in Carolina or Denver, so he's not on our short list.
Not sure

How much I trust these “odds” but CBS Sportsline has us in the top 5 teams to get Kendricks...
