This is a false narrative. He hit up to his career averages from week three in April through the end of the year. He was also excellent over the entire second half.
The numbers are simple and they aren't false.
April .174 BA / .562 OPS / 86 ABs
May .216 BA / .610 OPS / 97 ABs
June .213 BA / .677 OPS / 80 ABs
OBP was under .300 all 3 months.
Total Pre-ASB - .215 BA / .284 OBP / .654 OPS / 289 AB's
(more than half the year and more than half his AB's)
I said he "sucked first half last year" - how is that even arguable?
I'm not expecting Callaway or Eiland to "transform" anyone as much as I'm looking for them to get the most out of them.
I think a lot of these guys have very good stuff but a lot of them still struggle as pitchers. I've always believed that you can't teach stuff - but you can teach pitching and location. Guys like Wheeler have everything you need to succeed - it's a mater of pitch selection, pitch location, mechanics, and consistency.
So, I do think a good pitching coach should be able to take a guy like that and turn him into something better. Within reason, of course - I'm not saying someone out there can turn Zack Wheeler into Max Scherzer. But I do think there's a lot young pitchers can learn to get better.
Yeah and part of it is simply getting them back on track like I said. A pitching coach should at least be able to get them back on track to what they've already shown in certain years if the stuff is there so I will agree there.
RE: RE: RE: Reyes sucked first half last year, terrible defensively all year Â

You said he "turned it on in September in garbage time".
Reyes career wRC+ 104
Reyes over second half last year (July, August, and September) wRC+ 121
Reyes from April 24th through the end of the season? wRC+ 109.
He basically had an ice cold three week stetch to start the year and was fine after..
Plan your post season schedule today. This move certainly puts them over the top along w the Vargas signing and the reliance on 3 overhyped pitchers who have been mostly hurt during their fail careers.
Was Julio Franco not available?
As soon as Harvey left the Mets, he improved dramatically Â
Not saying his struggles are over and he is the Dark Knight again. But what does it say about this organization that he improves greatly just by leaving the dysfunction? Just like Turner and Murph

Not really true on Harvey his 2nd start was awful1
in Bruce getting less playing time rather than Nimmo.
Agreed. I really wish we had moved on from Bruce - he would have been a solid enough acquisition for the time we had him. We got some of his better recent production. But I just don't like the player. It's the type of hitter I want the Mets to get away from and he's a terrible fielder too.
All Nimmo does is get on base and he's much better in the field.
Nimmo has that stuff scarecrow posture like Hunter Pence always had. This has nothing to do with anything but the way he moves and runs always reminds me of Pence.
I think Peter Bourjos would have been a better addition Â
He can play CF, still plays excellent defense, and he can be used as a pinch runner. All it would take to get him would be cash. He can't hit but neither can Bautista.
He brought a spark to the team in 2016 and helped make a run to the WC game. Was up and down last season. This season he is not only killing them at the plate, but his defense is now starting to cost them games.
Mets fans aren't buying tickets because of their nostalgia for no 7.
My sister had a 41 game plan for 4 years running and didn't renew after 2016 once they brought wife beater Reyes back. I doubt she's alone.
NY is a city with a disproportionate number of high earning females who take domestic abuse pretty seriously. It's one thing to deal with the PR disaster of having a scumbag like Reyes on the roster if he's good, but he's pretty uniformly awful, so I can't see the logic in keeping him on the roster.

77, 74, 74, 79, 90, 87, 70... that should = primo job security?
His off-season moves to this point = disaster.
Farm system = disaster
He's drafted roughly 280 players and this is what we have to show for it...
This has to be a deciding year.
If the Mets win like 80 games and miss the postseason again, I think they have to fire Sandy. He's had enough time and I think that's fair.
It should be a postseason or bust year. If we're still not ready for that 8 years into this thing, then he should never have had the job to begin with. Enough with the excuses and other stuff. Every team has injuries. The good ones have depth.
Sandy seems to be able to put together teams that can compete when they're at 100% - but once a few guys get hurt, everything seems to fall apart. I don't expect all-star reserves or anything like that, but depth is created when you have a strong farm and ours is awful. That's Sandy's fault and no one else's.

Thanks to Nimmo for providing the only offense tonight. If they sit him to give a scrub like Jay Bruce ABs, then this team is hopeless.

If they are out of it by July 31, they need to trade Degrom for a haul of prospects. Jake is going to be 30 in 3 weeks.
He is my favorite Met, but it is time to retool our system with 3-4 studs.
Call up the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Mariners, Brewers and the Rockies.
Jake is a 20 game winner on any real team with talent.
