Gardner is on the bench today against the lefty Hamels.
Didi dropped to the 5 hole against the lefty. The Big 3 righties are batting back to back again.
Yankees Lineup:
Hicks CF
Judge RF
Stanton LF
Sanchez C
Didi SS
Austin DH
Andujar 3B
Walker 1B
Torres 2B
German on the mound
Bird coming back is great news, crazy to think the power numbers we are putting up and now adding back a 20-30 HR guy in bird, wow!
Hamels is a nice pitcher, getting no run support all year....maybe he is a guy we make a move for at deadline? lol
Go Yanks!
I see us going with either one less arm in the BP or someone getting a phantom DL stint.
Torres was always a decent SS defensively but he’s taken it to another level in a short time at 2nd. It really is remarkable
RP- This Torres production is not a complete surprise. He ripped up the AFL and won MVP by hitting .400 the fall before he was injured. This kid is for real and we get to watch him for years to come.
I do as well. There is no reason they can't get Austin in the line-up vs. all lefties when Bird comes back. You can sit Bird for half of them and Gardy for the other half (with Stanton in LF). I think they finally get rid of the extra arm in the bullpen when Bird returns and keep Austin around. Kahnle should be returning around same time as Bird, and Warren isn't too far behind him. That will clean up and strengthen the bullpen, and put less of a need on the extra arm as well.
Agreed. If/when Bird returns and is healthy, he will be an everyday player. But he will certainly get the occasional rest here and there, and that will be vs. lefties. But Austin can still get in the line-up vs. every lefty by sitting Gardy, putting Stanton in LF, and DH'ing Austin (what they are doing tonight). Gardy stinks against lefties at this point in his career (has been real bad past couple years). He is still an upgrade over Stanton in the field, but you gotta get Stanton in the OF sometimes anyway. And Gardy at 35, can use the breaks here and there...particularly with the all-out style he plays with.
That was everyone's concern at start of season.
What is it gonna cost Cashman in young talent to patch up the problem?
Too bad. Now Hamels will have the game of the year trying to show Cashman what he can do.
after sevy its all question marks and streaky pitchers.
i dont feel comfortable with any yankee SP on the mound outside of sevy come playoff time.
hamels could be a little rental and at 34 may not cost to much.
lol, was just going to post the same thing.

German is all over the place though.
interesting, I never posted that.
There are some promising arms 2 or 3 years away, though.

Yeah, this team needs pitching. Before Montgomery's injury and Sonny Gray's unraveling, last night not withstanding, I was thinking we needed a 1b or a legit #2, but now, we just need somebody competent who can be relied on to produce the innings. I was reading where Hammels might become an option. If we could get him without giving up a major prospect I think it would be a good get. But no frazier, Andujar, Sheffield, Florial or any of those other guys who are really starting to emerge this year.

yea and he has poor plate discipline
Earlier in the year he was swinging wildly, I pointed it out and then he got tighter and started raking. I think he just swings really hard all the time, but when he makes contact it does not stand out. Scouting is finding how to exploit the holes in that swing so his misses look wild.

Is he getting any coaching? He appears to be attacking harder and swinging more wildly.

So you're thinking it really hasn't changed since he started raking? We had an Andujar conversation a week or so ago after that trip against all that good pitching. I was thinking much of his issues were due to the level of pitching, but now he just seems out of control to a large degree regardless of who's throwing to him. I think it might be getting worse. A trip to the minors might do him good. Let him settle things done and reset. Right now it is hard to watch him at the plate...
he is struggling and he comes out hacking at first pitch pop up...
make the fucking guy pitch, we cant get to him, make him work and get him out of the game.
judge had a bad AB too, swung at a lot of shit pitches
didn't see it, but been waiting for that to happen.
