We have every other has-been and never-was in Las Vegas so what is one more? Perhaps they can compete against the Long Island Ducks
They either HAVE to contend this year, or blow up the front office today give a new regime time to evaluate and make changes before the deadline. Problem is, that never works in season.
This is the absolute worst case scenario for Ricco - he needed a big year this year more than anyone in this organization top to bottom.
If the team doesn't contend again this year, and the farm system stays where it's at, I'd want someone from outside the organization to take a fresh look at everything and bring in a new approach. I'm sure there's some talented execs in Houston, the Bronx, LA, Chicago, etc., that might want a chance to run their own team.
How do they not have passable options to bring up for OF/C instead of having to sign Joey Bats?
Is it simply poor drafting? Bad development? Not spending the money on international players and staff?
I'm genuinely curious what you would attribute it to.

even mention of a hot seat for Sandy is truly pathetic

Both. Keith Law noted that even when the Mets select solid prospects they seemingly go backwards. Even their IFA spending has resulted in very little success. On that note.. they just RELEASED their 2016 5th round pick. That's becoming far too common.
Holy moly.
I mean it's just minor league fodder, but what is the upside or point? Just a warm body?
I guess we didn't see enough of him in 2013 when he pitched to a 7+ ERA in 10 MLB innings.
Christ.
6. New York Mets (slot value: $5,525,200)
Selection: Shane McClanahan, LHP, South Florida
The Mets have gone with pitchers with their last two top picks and they could go with a hitter here, but McClanahan’s potential as a top-of-the-rotation left-hander is tough to ignore. He has 111 strikeouts in just 66 innings this season. Although his command has come and gone at times this year, McClanahan has shown plus stuff, with his fastball touching triple digits and his changeup ranking among the best in this class. The South Florida ace had Tommy John surgery his freshman year, and command issues aren’t uncommon the first couple of years after that surgery. Others in play at this spot include India and South Alabama CF Travis Swaggerty.
How would you consider him as a prospect?

think they take India at 6.
How would you consider him as a prospect?
He's suddenly showing power (so you have to hope it's legit). Think poor man's David Wright in terms of upside. I wouldn't complain about him being the pick. Recent history looks good for premium pick college 3b. Not that they know anything but Sporting News has Bart falling to 6.
Blue Jays signed him for 3.9 million. I think Mets only had about 2.7 or so, which they split between Jiminez and Gregory G, Vlad Jr's cousin.
I have no idea why that is. But it is unmistakble trend. So why keep trying to fight it? For some reasons the scouts and the organization is fantastic with pitchers and piss poor with position players.
