NFT: Parents sued to vacate 30 year old stay at home son

spike : 5/23/2018 10:27 pm
"A 30-year-old man court-ordered to vacate his parents' home on Tuesday said he should be given more time to leave because of how much his parents "harassed" him about moving out.

Michael Rotondo, of Camillus, New York, had been living rent-free in his parents' Syracuse-area home for eight years when a State Supreme Court judge ruled on Tuesday in his parents’ favor, ordering him to move out.

Rotondo, who plans to appeal the decision, said he stopped speaking to his parents when they "alluded" to wanting him to leave the house in October, just one month after he lost custody and visitation rights of his son.

"I'm not bothering them by living here," Michael Rotondo said in an interview with ABC News' "Good Morning America." "It's little to no cost to them, and considering how much they've harassed me, I think it's the least that they should be required to do, which is just let me hang here a bit longer and use their hot water and electricity.""

By the end of October, Michael Rotondo said his parents were demanding he get a full-time job, health insurance and sessions with a therapist, but he said he "didn't need any of those things."

"My parents alluded to the fact that they no longer wanted me living in the house, and I was devastated from the loss, and not seeing my son anymore," Rotondo said. "After that, I was like, 'I’m done with you guys.'"

Mark and Christina Rotondo said they gave their son multiple notices to vacate and even offered him money to help him find a place of his own.

Michael Rotondo admitted that he accepted the money, but used it for "other things."

"I took it but with consideration for my plans, and how my finances interacted with those plans, I did use the money for other things, but I don’t regret that," he said. "I would have preferred to have kept the money and given it back to them ... but I had to use it, and that's just how it is."

Agreed. Rotten parents should learn to show some respect to their children. Unbelievable sense of entitlement.

Exactly. You bring a kid in the world, you are responsible for taking care of him.

Sounds to me like he has an anxiety disorder that prevents him from working. And these greedy parents are throwing him out. Why not pay for him to get the help he needs?

Sounds like they didn't even consider the obvious solution - Mama and Poppop buy a new house to move into, and let their son stay where he is and have his privacy. Then it's just on Mom to swing by each morning to make him breakfast and do laundry.

I don’t blame the parents at all. They give their kid rent money and he uses it on some undefined purpose probably hookers and blow

Custody of his son. Definitely more to this story, but like everyone else states above, get off your ass and get a job. Funny nugget at the end of the article that a pizza place was offering him a job based on the media attention this received.
No job and lost visitation rites with his son?

GMAN56 : 5/24/2018 7:57 am : link
what had happened for him to lose visitation to his son. He may just be depressed and needs help. Yea, it was all fun when you dont have to pay rent and can just sit and play video games all day. I still like playing games but there is a thing called work that gets in the way of it. Speaking of work, guess I gotta get back to it....

Well, in a way they're right. The logical argument is the guy's a hump - but his parents raised him to be a hump, so why should he be society's problem?

I'm kidding of course, but if I were that father that entire debacle would have included me reading a statement to be entered to the record on how massive a disappointment he was. Yeah, you got kicked in the ass - boo hoo, you had your time to sulk, now it's time to get your lazy ass back to work.

Dude - get out as fast as you can. Your dad is clearly a creepy old pervert. Your mom is also hopeless and is apparently under some kind of hypnotic jedi-mind power trick thing by your evil dad.

He won't excuse you? Seriously?

And the judge told you to get out, but that's just ridiculous. You have rights.

This is all the parents fault. Babied him as a kid, did not discipline him from day one and basically created a spoiled monster. Very common theme playing out these days.

Bubba
Devour the Day : 5/24/2018 4:34 pm : link
no kids. But see it all around i am not saying all parents but overall this entire softening of kids is apparent. My spouse is a High School teacher and the stuff I hear is just amazing I am not going to get into it but it is what I see, think and believe.
Devour
Bubba : 5/24/2018 4:43 pm : link
Understood. But its not always about the parents. Disciplining your own kid these days is a slippery slope. If a parent kicks their kid in the ass for misbehaving or being disrespectful and said kid then reports this to your wife what happends next? I understand discipline takes many forms but apparently in the "good old" days we we didn't have this kind of problem with our children.

There’s definitely more to this story

Too hard to judge not knowing the detailed circumstances
Bubba
Devour the Day : 5/24/2018 4:58 pm : link
Totally acknowledge what you said. I know there are a ton of parents out there today doing it right and I also know that society is making it harder in aspects to the "good old days" All I do know and what I am exposed to it scares the hell out of me on where we are headed. I don't have kids I get it and understand that. My wife on the other hand has 120 or so new 16-17 year olds every year in school and the stuff I hear concerns me very much ---- one thing being her safety. I feel for all you parents today and the challenges you all face in raising your children, raising them right and keeping them safe.

what could possible change it? Just based on the quotes it seems cut and dry. It was adjudicated and the parents were found to be in the right. Even absent that, it distill to an intruder refusing to leave a home at the owners’request. At 30years old how can there be any parental obligation. So I can’t even imagine a scenario where more information would put this guy in the right.
Before my wife and I had kids
Dr. D : 5/25/2018 9:21 am : link
I used to think that as long as we provided the right amount of love, positive reinforcement, boundaries, discipline, etc. everything would work out great.

Then our daughter came along and shot that idea all to hell.
my point ^ is
Dr. D : 5/25/2018 9:30 am : link
probably only people who don't have kids, would blame the parents in this situation.

There are a lot of things out of parents control, including genetics. Disorders like ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) for example.

Yes, it's possible they spoiled him and didn't force him to be responsible.

But for all we know, they've been fighting (providing positive and negative reinforcement, etc.) with the kid since he was 7 to do his homework, chores, etc.
