This has been something I've thought about. Intimidation of RB's is part of the game. Big hits, head hunting, etc. And it's a bigger part of the NFL game, and rookies see even more of it. Given Barkley's notoriety as the #2 pick, and remarks about him such as a "generational talent" coupled with his unwillingness in school to try to punish tacklers, how do you think he and the Giants will respond to attempts to intimidate him through extra nasty play?
Keep in mind that I'm not suggesting this will make him ineffective, or that he's not tough, this is just part of the game. And in the past, an evident lack of team cohesiveness would have me more concerned, but I'm still very interested to see how the entire team responds.
I wouldn’t screw with Barkley if he is around lol
That's a good point! The OL really needs to step up on this, and he's got right personality and tools to take on that role.

I know this is ridiculous but Richie Incognito? Just put a line in the contract that he gets fined every time he harasses or starts a fight with Flowers (who'd he'd probably have to play beside). That and lets sign Dez to make our offense really explosive ;).

He could team up with Hernandez and together they could go full on Dobler and Dierdorf on offenders!
He'll have no problem handling the game off football on the field.

Our own little goon squad to watch Odell and Saquons backs; I like it!
You probably can't get away with it these days even if the refs won't do their job.
Seriously. It’s like no one has ever been successful at RB because they were too intimidated.
LOL. Classic.
A. Who's worried? Read what was written.
B. Who said Barkley wasn't tough? Read what was written.
And for those who think the Big 10 and the NFL are the same, well, I just can't help you.
The level of violence in the NFL is a whole other world compared to college ball. A 250lb or 300lb NFL defender has the ability to injure a RB or WR on almost any play if they wish to. Fortunately, most aren't dirt bags, and most don't WANT to injure other players.
But there are exceptions. How was Odell's 2017 season? And that's why the team needs to have your back. No bull shit, no bravado, just quiet consequences.
Holy crap what people will think to dwell on.
So he's already intimidated? Unfucking real.
Barkley is adept at not taking the big hit. He knows how to protect himself.
Barkley is adept at not taking the big hit. He knows how to protect himself.
Also Barkley is not a player that 'invites' the hatred of another team with brash and arrogant on field behavior as Odell has in the past.
I thought it was satire at first.
I think what you are trying to say, and I could be wrong....will teams find extra motivation to shut down Barkley because of all the hype? Similar to Ball on the Lakers. Players found extra motivation to take it to him because of the hype and his fathers mouth. Will teams find that extra motivation.
Intimidation? How will it be any different than any rookie coming into the NFL? Defensive players will talk trash and try to hit him hard regardless.
Don't you make light of that. Those fucking pillows hurt.
Because I do believe the QB position is one that can be intimidated and create problems like happy feet, looking down at the rest, short arming throws, etc.
But RB? NFW.
Teams have historically had each other's backs in such circumstances. A video posted here recently showed a former Giants player providing consequences to a Redskin who cheap shotted LT as an example of this.
OL are typically best positioned to perform this role. As did the Giants' player, as Shell and Upshaw would routinely do, and many others. This isn't unusual, to one degree or another, it goes on in every game.
Point of my inquiry: As last year the Giants' OL was a mess, and seemed to be more interested in fighting each other than opponents, would there be a new attitude toward rallying around a teammate? I didn't expect THE answer, as there likely isn't one, rather just a discussion of how YOU think the team would respond.
PEEJ understood this. Too bad more haven't. If you need to deliberately misconstrue this, have fun!
Clarification of a mind-numbingly dumb premise doesn't make it any more valid.
An 18 year old, true freshman goes into the horeshoe, against #1 ranked Ohio State and was the best player on the field against a defense saturated with future high round draft picks?
There are things to worry about for the Giants in 2018, this is certainly not one of them.

be a non factor. Was Sweetness, Bo Jackson, or Nigerian Nightmare intimidated? No, they doled out punishment!
