I have no idea why I continue to subject myself to death by a thousand paper cuts watching this team every night - but here I am again.
Nimmo led off with a double for us.
Lineup:
1. Brandon Nimmo (L) LF
2. Asdrubal Cabrera (S) 2B
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
4. Jay Bruce (L) RF
5. Michael Conforto (L) CF
6. Devin Mesoraco (R) C
7. Adrian Gonzalez (L) 1B
8. Steven Matz (R) P
9. Amed Rosario (R) SS
Milwaukee is playing much, much better since we last saw them. This is going to be a really tough series. I'd probably consider a split a "success."
Cabrera is the only guy who deserves to be in the lineup every single day right now. Probably Nimmo too because he's getting on base so well.
Rosario has tons of work to do. Conforto still doesn't look like himself. Cespedes is hurt as always and Frazier is also sidelined. Reyes has been awful. AGone is pretty washed. Not even going to mention Bautista.
Like I said in the other thread - I just don't think Sandy Alderson is any good at constructing a strong MLB lineup. We had two of the best hitters in baseball and he let both go (Turner/Murphy) and a lot of his signings have been fucking trash.
This should earn him a benching ASAP.
Conforto is who I was worried he was. I was a firm Believer that he was more likely to be his 2016 form than his 2017 form, especially after the freak shoulder issue. Seems very streaky to me. A Jeff Franceur type. One great year followed by a bad year etc.
This team has sucked balls since and been painful to watch offensively for at least 10 years. Possibly 15. outside of Cespedes moment of glory and Murphy roid binge.
Cain has been quite a bit better so far.
Good news is the pitching is completely smoothing out. Wheeler has a 3.99 FIP on the season. Matz still isn't there but seems to be able to at least battle. Of course Vargas is coming off 5 shutout innings.
Im a fan of the pitching. We just need to get the bats going somehow, some way.
But the hitting is just brutal, man. Completely non-existent. We just cannot score runs.
Other than those two spots I dont know what we can do. Somebody like Conforto has to pick it up. He was arguably our best hitter last year and the guy we were going to build around. This has been an absolutely brutal stretch.
3-3 - two doubles, one triple.
No idea why this guy keeps getting benched.
Maybe Cabrera can actually do something
A couple of months ago we heard the Marlins wanted Conforto for Realmuto and we all laughed hysterically. I'm not so sure I wouldn't do it now. It would open a permanent spot for Nimmo.
And Cabrera comes through too!

Yeah, that's the hard part. We kind of made this bed and are stuck in it. There's not much wiggle. I think Realmuto would be the real get. He would be a massive upgrade behind the dish. I'm still not really sure what the cost would be but I'd deal Gimenez+ for him without hesitation. He's really good.

And it's still really only catcher or first base. A Realmuto trade would be an obvious upgrade even still. Trading for somebody like Justin Bour would be too although we do sort of have a glut of 1B options on the horizon and AGone hasn't been "terrible".

Same.
Shhhh!

Awesome night for Mets top prospect Andres Gimenez for St. Lucie -
3-for-3, walk, double, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
He's now hitting .287 on the season with .797 OPS and 15 steals.
And Cabrera comes through too!
glad he is getting some ABs now. He wouldve been buried behind Jay Bruce (gasp)
EXACTLY what Matz needed there.
He showed some fortitude tonight and battled.
I think the mental part of the game is where Matz has had the hardest time. It's not really that his stuff isn't there or that he can't get guys out. He can.
Their batting OPS is .022 lower than their pitching OPS. That projects to a team 4 games under .500. Instead, they are four over. A good closer would probably only have 1 BS at this point in the season, which means if not for Familia's suckitude, Mets would be 10 games over .500 and in sole possession of first place.
Except for the blown saves, they have done a good job in close games. I think Mickey deserves some credit for that.

It shows how bad this team is when someone says we "desperately" need Plawecki back. Plawecki? Really? And Frazier is nothing special JAG.
Glen is obviously new around here. The ban hammer will be out away.
Maybe Nimmo can be our surprise break out? Sandy is due to have some luck with a draft pick and us Met fans could use a positive surprise with a young player. He needs to play every day. Hopefully Bruce packed his 1B glove.
Anyone else think Rosario doesn't look completely lost at the plate? He's working hard to try and take pitches and not chase, and it's resulting in him taking some strikes, but his eye is getting better even if not translating into walks. He's working some deep counts and not just hacking away out there. The results aren't there yet, but I'm not ready to give up on this kid. Just keep throwing him out there (we don't have any better options anyway) and hopefully the light goes off soon.
Free Flores.

Oh yeah, I am way, way away from even being close to giving up on AR1. The kid is gushing with talent, he just has a lot of work to do in terms of plate discipline.
I have no problem putting a kid like that in the lineup every day even when he's struggling because the light can go on at any time. It's when older guys who have already peaked get these ridiculously long leashes that I get pissed off.
Can Hanley play the outfield?
Can Hanley play the outfield?
Jay Bruce is Roberto Clemente out there compared to Hanley. The Bosox experiment with Hanley in LF was an epic disaster.

@ Milwaukee. Would make up for the disaster losing 2 out of 3 vs miami.

I'm extremely bullish on Rosario. I think his AB's over the last few weeks have been much improved -- the only real backsliding was after the 2-HR game. His swing got mad long again and was swinging out of his shoes. But I've seen a lot of good with him lately.
