Todays lineup:

LF Gardner

RF Stanton
C Sanchez
SS Sir DIDI
CF Hicks
1B Bird
3B Andular
2b Walker

The Say Gley kid Torres gets the day off.
Tanaka
Marty866b : 5/27/2018 11:42 am : link
Anyone have any confidence in him? He's afraid to throw his fastball and hitters are just sitting on his other stuff which has been mediocre,at best. We desperately need this guy to turn it around especially having Gray and German in the rotation. I believe Cashman has to make a deal if the Yankees want to go deep in the playoffs.
According to Boone

Torres has a "banged up knee" resulting from a recent defensive play. Nothing serious but he gets a day off.

Agreed. I am willing to give a package of Frazier, Andujar (or Drury) and one or 2 mid level prospects for a top arm.

Now before you go all "you are crazy to give up Andujar" Our need for pitching far out weighs our need for a young 3b. We have Drury who is coming into his own, Torreyes who is a great ultilty guy plus Walker. What we don't have is solid pitching after Severino. All the others CC, Tanaka and especially Gray have been up and down (Gray has been down and middle). Plus this is NOT mortgaging our future because we still have young players like Flores, Sheffield, Adams, Acevedo, Abeu etc.

An arm like Fulmer from Det, or Cole from Tex are two possibilities.

according to people on this board youre insane if you think andujar and frazir and a couple mid level guys is going to land a top arm lol

i posted the exact thing and caught so much shit. i was on the we must trade for a top arm the first week of the season. caught so much shit.

i do agree with you though. i would trade frazier, andujar, drury, austin, adams or florial.

of those guys we can create a nice package for a big arm.

maybe bumg? hamels?

would mind happ, he is a mid rotation guy and wouldnt cost to much....maybe the yanks pursue two arms and include gray in one of the deals?

to see didi drop some in the lineup, another thing people on this board was so salty about, but it had to happen....he will get back on track, but you cant have your 3 hitter going 0-4 all the time.

big hit here would go a long way in gaining some confidence back

with that loop in his swing he'll continue the slump.

The pitcher is effin annoying..
It's time for Stanton to get going
DennyInDenville : 5/27/2018 1:55 pm : link
He's been good, and has hit well in May, but I want that 6 homer week soon. We could use a jolt like that.

It will be interesting to see Torres at SS whenever Didi gets a day, unless Toe is back up here in a few days and Torres never moves from 2B

Seems Tanaka saves his stuff when he really needs it (potentially bodes well for a 2017 postseason repeat when the time comes)

Let's see if Bird can get going right now, Andujar I love him, and his fielding has been very good!! But his footwork is still very very rough and he's really not smooth at all at 3B, hopefully that doesn't manifest itself at a bad time, and I have hope he will keep working very hard and become a smoother fielder. His reflexes , glovework and arm are all there (throwing motion is a little long tho)
Nice piece of hitting by Birdie

Tanaka has made a major change
rich in DC : 5/27/2018 2:47 pm : link
He is throwing what looks like a 4 seam FB that "backs up" on lefties and a cut FB against righties. His 2 seamer is straight and hittable. He apparently has finally accepted that the 4 seamer is the way to go.

You can see hitters giving up on the pitch, recognizing it as a FB, but then looking VERY surprised when it cuts back into the strike zone.

This is an important change. If hitters have to respect the FB, they can no longer eliminate the splitter and sit on the breaking stuff. They are going to have to begin guessing whether he is throwing the straight 4 seamer, the backup 2 seamer or the splitter.

It also makes the slider/change more effective because they are generally on the same plane. Very interesting.

Nothing about Stanton has been as advertised so far this year. He looks uncomfortable in the field and at the plate. Testament to his talent that he has still produced but I really haven't enjoyed watching him.

Agreed, kinda ugly baseball this weekend, but the positives are strong starts from Sevy and Tanaka, bullpen got the job done Friday and Sunday, and mostly smooth work in the field really helped.
Nice Series Win.

They're not playing their best right now. But they still just took a series against one of the best teams in baseball and a team they've struggled against for a number of years now. They've won 8 out of their last 9 series. Can't really complain about that.

I'm with you on this. He is incredibly frustrating to watch. The fact that he keeps on chasing that slider down and away when it's not even close is infuriating. Also, I don't gey the closed stance. He won an MVP and hit 59 home runs and hit .281 with a much more natural looking stance. Since changing to this one he looks like a relatively easy out to anybody with a tight slider. It's the same pitch Alfonso Soriano couldn't lay off in '03 playoffs.
