#Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett is remaining with Seattle on a restructured deal, source says: Two years, $30 million with a max value of $34 million with nearly $13 million guaranteed this year.
@KatzBrosSports
.
Deal is expected to be the highest average salary ever given to an NFL defensive tackle.
Leonard Williams only gets helped by this as a free agent. Giants still need to replace him.

The Giants have $38.4M in cap space with free agency set to begin tomorrow, according to the NFLPA. That's the 15th most cap space in the league.
The Giants haven't re-signed any of their free agents yet. They made a few low-cost re-signings in the 24 hours before FA started last year (Shepard, Gillan, Kreiter), so it'll be interesting to see if they knock out any of those today/tomorrow morning.
Remember when the hoopla in that draft was around Jones and Lance and both are off their respective teams just three seasons later.

I'm fully on board with drafting a kid and at #6 (or a move up if necessary). Jones had had too many and critical injuries for Joe to ignore. I do remember many on this board, however, getting excited over so many prospects like Fields, for example, and he has a worse win percentage than Jones. Also shows how often busts do occur at the top and many times it's due to bad situations. I do like Daboll and hope he gets things right.
Mike in NY, that man was ready to move on from Eli.

Where did I ever say that? There are a number of QB’s that intrigue me in this draft (JD and JJM the most in Round 1), but that doesn’t mean that I am not cognizant that they can bust as well like any position. Hopefully Daboll, Schoen, Hickey, and company make the correct decision.

That’s fine. But again, I see no purpose for “reminding” anyone that QBs bust sometimes. You honestly think you are breaking news there? The fact is, Mac Jones and Trey Lance have absolutely nothing to do with whether any other QB in this class will bust. Maybe they will. Maybe they won’t. But if I’m a GM I’m not avoiding a QB I like because of Mac Jones…
PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, good luck with that...
Definitely smart to move Bosa. Guy can't stay healthy, and he looks like he takes off every other play - to me - when he does play.
Chargers: 21M over
Bills: 15M over
Saints: 11M over
49ers: less than 1M over
Ravens: less than 1M over
Chiefs: under but with good DL UFA
a Mahomes re-structure would help them re-sign everybody though
They want to extend the contract of Osa Odigizuhwa plus work on extension to Lamb.
Starting discussion point on Dak’s contract extension being floated about is 5 years $300 million $240 million guaranteed. Tidy sum!!!!

I think, unless they agree to take much of his contract like how the Raiders did for Waller, the Chargers may be forced to cut Mack rather than find a suitor for his cap hit ($38.5 mil).
The Chargers are in a pickle with their cap and losing great players. I figured Alt could be there for them but they may want to address OLB or WR also. It's probably their best interest to trade down and try to acquire more top 100 picks if possible.

Actually I think you can add Lawrence and Fields
Quote:
JFC. This is where Schoen needs to clean it up. If he drafts a QB and it doesn't look like its working out after 3 years, cut bait.
It was smart of the Giants to keep Jones, he is a top tier qb. The know drafting a qb at 6 or trading for some old, used up qb would set the franchise back 5 years. Hopefully this draft will bring in some young players who can come in an start immediately and make the Giants a better team.
With all due respect Jack, we've already been set back 5 years with Jones. Drafting a QB high in the draft doesn't guarantee the same 5 years of crap football.
Agreed
When he came back BEFORE he tore the ACL, there were observations that his throwing motion had changed and he couldn't hit the side of a barn accurately.
That may be a big reason why they brought R. Wilson in.
If they sign a more than serviceable vet AND draft a QB, Jones is likely to be inactive all season, then cut.
Get use to it, that's likely how this plays out.

The hot rumor is that the Giants are going to trade a 2nd round pick for him and then sign him to a huge long-term deal at around $25 -$30 Million per year with something like $90 - $100 Million guaranteed. Carolina and Burns are sort of like at an impasse.

I think what he means is that the Giants shouldn't overpay for either a RB or S since so many are available in the FA market. That they should instead devote their FA resources to OL and Edge. I agree with that, but those are premium positions, and will therefore require a lot of money.

No. Or else we’re going to get our QB killed and have a last ranked offense again.
This team isn't getting fixed this offseason, and certainly not in free agency. Big splash signings aren't necessarily what this team needs. They do need very good veterans who come from winning cultures to help show this very young team what it takes to play at a competitive professional level. You can get without blowing it all in the first 2 hours of Day 1.
Well they did just take their DC

Letting the market come to them can be the difference between signing a top tier guy or signing another replica of the ineptitude we currently have on the roster. I for one am done with some of the inferior talent we have on the interior both starting and depth. Most of our starters would be back ups on most teams

So given what we've experienced in the middle of the line, is there really too much to pay for the right players...especially along the Offensive Line? As has been shared today, GMs have so much flexibility in dealing with the cap...for me it is all about getting the right players. If you have to pay "a little more" I'm good with it so long as they can play. The economical, team friendly signings we've made along the line simply have not worked.

Hey, I think this is interesting. Every OL position should be considered a premium position at this point...
Not a bad idea at all for a one-year opportunity...
Guy can run and be a serious threat in the passing game.

We just need to sign one and then draft one in the second
Minnesota has been linked to McCarthy. Best case scenario for Giants is the Vikings trade up with AZ/LAC. That means they have a chance at MHJ, and if not him they get the pick of their next guy between Nabers/Odunze.

MHJ goes to LAC in that scenario and how is that the best case scenario if JJM turns into a franchise qb? 🤔

Absolutely, I'd prefer a guy with versatility to play guard or tackle. Jordan Morgan would be great. Would've been a first rounder last year if he didn't tear his acl.

Whether they could have paid him or bot is one thing.
How do you get better in the other ways you need to get better at If you do pay him?
Having a star safety is nice. How functional is it when your pass rush sucks and you have 1 legitimate cornerback?

Good points. I'd also add that he's not a star. You make this pass rush you can live with second tier talent in the back end. I'd rather be paying big $ on the defensive side to the pass rush. Belton and Pinnock time.

Cool. What does that matter? Barkley is 27, which is when RBs tend to decline. Last year looked like he might be a year early to the decline phase, not a year late.
The Giants were going to have to figure out a replacement for Barkley this offseason whether they kept him on the roster this year or not.

You guys keep saying that and yet two playoff teams just spent money on premier running backs. Maybe the pros have re-considered that sage wisdom about running backs. They are less expensive and more versatile than wideouts.
It can make sense when you are close... when you aren't it is a waste of money until you have other things in place. We need another OG, DL, Edge, CB, WR, QB, TE, FS... big difference for us. I love Barkley and I wanted him here... same with McKinney, but we can't afford them and fix this team.

Jordan Whitehead gets 2 years, $9M, with a max value of $10.5M from the #Buccaneers.
We should definitely sign a safety like Justin Simmons, Deshon Elliott, Kam Curl or Julian Blackmon.
Eagles will probably get him.....I f**king hate that team so much!

FA never disappoints spitting out mind numbing contracts.
29 year old Calvin Ridley just got the 2nd biggest full guarantee for a WR at $50m, just 2.5m behind Tyreek. 6th biggest total deal size.
that's also the biggest total guarantee and highest AAV this offseason to any non-QB offensive player. he got a higher guarantee than Hunts $100m contract. justin jefferson's price may have just gone to 200m with 100m guaranteed (it wont be that high but he is going to reset the position like nick bosa did - in a very big way).

I realize that but it’s the same team.
They must have learned their lesson because not paying AJ Brown ending what was left of a nearly championship caliber team.
That GM was fired.
This is a totally different regime.
Not only was the GM fired, the team fired him two days after AJ Brown kicked their asses in Philly. And I recall Vrabel throwing him completely under the bus in regards to not keeping AJ Brown.
There is the Dan Quinn connection for you. They have signed about 5 other players on that side of the ball.
OOOO, thought he was heading to Houston. Good for him.

It's funny I was told right here by the screaming cap brigade that the Eagles would be forced to make some brutally painful cuts this offseason. That came and went with only a couple and those couple were mitigated by some big FA additions. One of them a RB which in and of itself renders many arguments here as inaccurate as well.
So can we please all just admit the cap is real, but also mysterious and easily manipulated by teams that think the juice is worth the squeeze? Or no? No? OK ty anyway.
Underrated signing. With Rice, and a still functional even if no longer elite Kelce (if he stays healthy), I really like that WR tandem to be reasonably effective.
@MikeGarafolo
The #49ers have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with DB/special teamer Chase Lucas, according to his agent
@thelawmvp. The #Lions’ 2022 seventh-rounder heads to Santa Clara after two seasons in Detroit where he performed particularly well as the team’s gunner on punts.

Definitely a backup. I’m not sure what his level of play is… he saw some starts in (I think) 2022 but otherwise strictly a back-up.

Read my post again and think things through. You have one team, Philly, with a win now window. 3rd or 4th year HC. Coming off a winning playoff season. 2 years removed from a dominant run to a super bowl. Then you have the Chargers. New HC.
Can you spot the differences or no?
IT's clear as day. Teams that are good and think they can be good for the next 1-2 years will dance around the cap of present day. Kick the can down the road. Teams that think their ceiling isn't high enough will take the patient and cheaper approach.

Will they ever learn their lesson?
Yep. I thought last year couldn't be topped but they went out and spent all their money on OL in their 30's and a WR that's always nicked up that's played 16 games in the past two seasons combined coming off a torn ACL.
Re-signs with Washington one year $4 Million (#100 Ranked FA The Athletic).
lost jonah jackson too. think this is probably just the best replacement he could get at lower $.
Maybe they get lucky and everyone is healthy, hit on OT in the draft and have a superbowl chance, who knows?
