Said he prefers LG, but it’s wasn’t a strong preference. The significance of the Ranaan quote is that it’s the first time I’ve heard that the Giants reached out about guard. We’ve all speculated but it’s always been denied on the record by the Giants.
Ruynan made it clear his preference was LG. Eluemunor said he is more comfortable on the right side.
Why would the coaches not put the players in the spots where they are most comfortable?
He was an early 3rd round pick who struggled with injuries both years. He played well at times and poorly at times. I'm guessing he's still in the mix. Also wonder if we see him taking some snaps at center in camp.
actually said he would like to play RG in order to settle down both JMS and Neal.

Eluemunor’s versatility and “anything for the team” attitude could be the key to the whole season for the Giants offense.
And Burns, Thibs and Lawrence can kick butt on defense.
I’m really liking Eluemunor’s attitude. Put his locker next to Neal. My number 1 goal this offseason, other than a new qb, was a vet RG to do with exactly what he said.
Me too. Focus on OL and front 7. I like the OL signings. Neither is a star, but they are solid. I think this helps Neal settle and the OL goes from bottom 5 to middle of the pack. This should be good enough to compete.

He told Schmeelk this, not Raanan.
I always assume no one actually tells Raanan first hand these things he says he hears. Whenever I hear/read his comments, I automatically edit them in my mind like this:
“I heard [someone else speculate that] the Giants reached out to Neal’s team about playing left guard”
This thread topic aside, I'm expecting a big leap from JMS.
Me too. Having two capable OGs surrounding him is huge. Often overlooked is the impact Lemieux had on Thomas. When he started as a rookie, he struggled physically in pass protection. But, in the mental aspect, he always knew his assignment and chose the right guy to pick up in stunts and twists. Having not to worry about the person next to him in that regard seemed to allow Thomas to take off.
he shows up at practice and we tell him to slide over three feet. Why would we let the inmates run the asylum?
We need his permission now?
It’s probably a curtesy to the agent. He would be placed in a lower valued position that will eventually effect both the player and agents bottom line. They have to maintain good relationships with these guys as they represent a lot of players.
the data a couple of months ago. There are two guards 6'7" or better. One you might be familiar with. Markus McKeethan. And Andrus Peat who is legit. There are probably a couple of dozen tackles that height.

+1. WTF does ‘reached out to his team’ even mean? Players play where the coach tells them to play or they’re history. That aside, I hope the new OL coach can fix him at RT, because that’s where we need him the most.
RE Sy56: OT is on the table in the draft, early IMO.
A waste to draft Alt other than to play tackle and the Giants already spent a top 10 pick on a left tackle converted to right tackle, so putting Alt at right tackle or guard would likely be a poor use of draft capital (as it seems to have been with Neal).

A ‘waste’ seems extreme. If Alt grades out as a blue chip prospect then that could be huge for our offense. We know one of the big 3 WRs will be available so is probably moot but acting like a RT is the equivalent of drafting an ILB is bizarre to me…especially watching our RT play over the last 1/2-dozen years.

Middle of the pack OL-what a breath of fresh air after 12 years of dead last huh?

Fair enough, but that's it. The only reason he's getting that month is because of where he was drafted and the poor coaching with the NYG before on the OL. Nothing should stop the Giants from drafting a solid RT if they see one on the board in about 6 weeks, especially in a draft rich with OTs.
RE: Unless Neal shows miraculous improvement in training camp,
I think Jermaine E should be the RT. Neal should get a shot at RG and work on being the swing tackle. Runyon should play LG and the 4+ other guards can battle it out for depth or RG if Neal can’t cut it.
Having a 6’ 7” guard doesn’t bother me if the QB is 6’ 4” or more.
actually said he would like to play RG in order to settle down both JMS and Neal.
And that is one of the keys when evaluating Neal’s play - how much bette would he look with a functional RG next to him? I think many discount how much that impacts an OT’s play.
I will not be surprised if the Giants draft at RT with their 2nd pick
Sometimes a person can’t rewire themselves to Stop being right handed, for example, and become left handed efficiently.
Neal Was a Left Tackle and wired as such.
Again, if true, and if he can adapt to LG even just average that’d be a powerful left side of the line.
And ,if necessary…we hope not…if AT was out for any reason, sliding to LT , even if #3 in the depth chart there, brings him back to where he was comfortable .

Was it your preference to keep the status quo?
Anything else to start the season would be stupid.

I expect a similar impact on JMS with better OGs.

1) No trade up or trade down is made for whatever reason
2) All 4 "top QBs" are gone
3) MHJ is gone too.
Do you see Joe Alt being such a good OL prospect that the Giants pass on Odunze and Nabers to take Alt at 6th overall with a trade down?
With a trade down?
Imagine Giants players having to actually earn their jobs. It's been a while.

Alt is a LT.

This is a change for Daboll too … last year he handed ill deserved roster spots to LemIeux, Shepard and several others. Hopefully he did learn.

Can't pass on Odunze or Nabers - let alone both.
1) Running to the podium to take MHJ (which I suspect)
2) Getting a King's Ransom to trade down with some other team so they can draft MHJ
3) Taking Alt as the best OL prospect (but either Alt or Rashawn Slater would have to play right tackle) with MHJ dropping to the Giants
Good one Greg.
I have to admit, I am as well.

Let’s hope the new OL coach can work some magic with Neal.
Anything else to start the season would be stupid.
Seems so

If Neal is part of the package that would cost us another draft pick or two to take him off our hands.
Stop

Yup
And then they paid his protege Eluemunor who happens to ply RT……
Plan A fix Neal
Plan B Eluemunor replaces him
