The Athletic: Giant's Top Free-Agent Fits Remaining

M.S. : 3/18/2024 9:18 am
Who could Joe Schoen sign on the cheap?

Defensive tackle: William Gholston
"...another DT should (be secured)... after A’Shawn Robinson left as a free agent... Gholston is 32 and has been a quality run defender throughout his career... (he) has experience playing three-technique in a base 3-4 defense, which is what new Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen deploys."

Other potential DT fits: Calais Campbell, Taven Bryan

Cornerback: Steven Nelson
"The 31-year-old Nelson... can stabilize the other starter spot (opposite Deonte Banks)... He still is very light on his feet, can mirror in man-to-man coverage and closes with top-flight suddenness.”

Other potential CB fits: Stephon Gilmore, Tre’Davious White, Ahkello Witherspoon

Offensive line: Tyre Phillips
"...the Giants should keep building out their depth chart with quality players... One potential returner could be the 27-year-old Phillips who made nine starts at right tackle for the Giants last season... Phillips could make sense to sign on a one-year minimum deal that could offer appeal to both sides thanks to his versatility. (Due to his injury) he might not be ready right away, but too much offensive line depth is never a problem."

Other potential OL fits: Justin Pugh, Isaiah Wynn, Chris Hubbard

Running back: Clyde Edwards-Helaire
"...the Giants need to bolster their running back room... While the soon-to-be 25-year-old Edwards-Helaire has battled injuries and primarily played backup, he knows how to make defenders miss after the catch. He topped the list of available running backs with an average of 13.4 yards after catch per reception."

Other potential RB fits: Matt Breida, Alexander Mattison, Dalvin Cook
Is the running back D'Onta Foreman still available?

If he wasn't resigned with Chicago then that would be a decent addition to the Giants new RBBC.
At this point, I wouldn't mind the Giants

using a Day 2 pick on a running back, there are going to be some really good ones.
That list is pretty meh

Edward’s Helaire is a guy I’d like to sign. If he’d take the minimum he might be able to resurrect his career here
You should not copy directly from the Athletic

tredavioius white off the achilles is a little scary unless the deal is really cheap.

also any of the comp pick ufas would need to take less than 3m per year to avoid canceling out mckinney comp pick.
If the Giants don’t sign a swing tackle (could be Phillips), I think
Ivan15 : 3/18/2024 10:03 am : link
Neal’s fate is sealed where he loses his starting job and becomes the swing tackle. Giants may not see it that way yet but I don’t see Neal beating out Eluemunor at RT unless he has made a big offseason improvement, which he didn’t do last year.
How about TD White?

We can use some help at corner. I loved him when he was coming out of the draft, plus the Buffalo connection.
I like Mattison

Turns 26 in June. Young and talented with not a lot of wear and tear. Bringing back Breida also makes sense, since he knows the system. My guess is that unless they get one of them to play on the vet minimum they will wait until they see what happens in the draft before adding another veteran.
We already have CEH

His name is Devin Singletary. Both 5’7”, @205. Then there’s Wan’dale at 5’8”. Call me a size queen, but…
Yes

3-4 DE and CB should be the top 2 priorities

No, not good value. If you want to take a RB, take one on day 3.
Gholston seems to line up against tackles a lot;
Angel Eyes : 3/18/2024 12:07 pm : link
would be curious about him as a 3-4 DE.

Always liked Foreman, would be happy to see him in the RB group
CEH is interesting
