Eratic Antonio Brown takes aim at Daniel Jones

KingBlue : 3/18/2024 3:16 pm
Antonio Brown has strangely chosen New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones as his latest subject to lampoon. Sounds like AB reads BBI...

Steelers moved on from Pickett after 2 years*
*Bears moved on from Fields after 3 years*
*Patriots moved on from Mac after 3 years*
*Jets moving on from Wilson after 3 years*

Giants fan going into year six of the Daniel Jones era...

Check out the link... I actually think it's pretty funny/

First off, I doubt AB is literate enough to type anything that grammatically correct. Probably had a friend or bot do it for him.

Second, at least Jones is still in the league and didn’t crazy his way out embarrassing himself and his team in the process never to return because he’s not worth the trouble.
I was expecting a lot worse

I know Jones sucks to most here already.
If he fails with what has to be a better oline and with a talented WR group that has a true #1, then nobody will doubt he sucks.

I'm just not sure taking the 4th or 5th best QB from the #6 spot is the answer over a potential superstar WR.

I didn't know Zack Wilson played well in the first year of the new regime and actually won a playoff game. Also, I didn't know Zack Wilson had a decent and pretty well received rookie campaign. ALSO, I guess all those stories from EVERYONE saying Zack couldn't even operate an NFL offense in PRACTICE were all lies.

But that's nuance. We hate that.

Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Baker Mayfield, Justin Fields, Sam Darnold & your favorite Josh Rosen all got dumped by their teams. Daniel Jones got $160M ($82M guaranteed). I see no reason to feel bad. He's been quite fortunate.

How did he get better from 2020 to 2021? I remembered them as somewhat similar seasons and the stats seem to bear that out. Similar ratings (some ratings were better and some worse in 2021), similar comp%, similar YPA, etc. He was more or less the same QB in my view.

Now, 2022 was clearly an improvement. But, in my view, it was an improvement from bottom 10 in the league to somewhere in the 12-15 range. That is a big jump and was reason for optimism. I just think too much weight was put on it, as his season as a whole was not impressive; it was just impressive compared to the rest of his body of work.
He's both right and wrong...

DJ isn't a superstar. He didn't earn the contract he received. But he had shown a cubic shit-ton of more promise than any of the guys AB mentioned.

trust me it's a low bar, but he's definitely better than Pickett Wilson and Fields. Those guys were literally the worst players on their respective rosters.

Daniel Jones has gotten got paid approximately $72M to date by the Giants, and he has an economics degree from Duke to fall back on. I don't go to bed at night wondering how Daniel Jones survives it all or wondering if someday he will overcome all the odds stacked against him in life.

I'd just like to see someone more talented than Jones play QB for the New York Giants.

The biggest disservice the Giants did for Jones
Matt M. : 3/18/2024 4:25 pm : link
is not the OL, WRs, etc. that they've provided him with. I think it was taking him at #6. Some people say the position doesn't matter. I say BS. First of all, it impacts slotting. Second, a top 10 pick has, and rightfully so, different expectations. A QB taken at #6 is expected to be able to perform better than he has, regardless of the talent; he is expected to elevate the team. Does that mean on a shitty team he should be a superstar? Not necessarily. But, he is expected to be better than what we've gotten. Also, the expectation is then, as the team grows, so does his game. But, Jones has shown me little in the way of playing QB outside of his ability to run to make me think he would be a star with a good OL and a #1 WR.

Do I think he would be better? Yes I do. But, I do not see him cracking the top 10, which is what you should expect from a guy taken at #6. Now, should the Giants decide to stick with him, I root for him 100% and hope for the best. And, with the right circumstances, I hope he protects the ball as he did in 2022 first and foremost. I just am not holding my breath that he transforms into a 4000 yard 30 TD guy under any circumstances.

I guess that depends on what narrative you buy into when it comes to who is making personnel decisions. For the most part I think the jury is still out on what's going on with the Giants. Also, I'm not sure either one of us knows full well how the other feels about the major issues that've been discussed. I've seen my position on Jones and adding a QB misunderstood and misrepresented in comments from others and I imagine that's the same for you.

My biggest gripe with the whole back and forth on this site about Jones is how his backers-the few that remain-seem to think his detractors hate Jones. I, for one, do not hate Daniel Jones. He seems like a very nice person who works hard and doesn’t do anything off the field to embarrass the organization. But he’s just not that good of a player and we’re just spinning our wheels at this point. We need to upgrade the position. Plain and simple. And whenever he leaves, I’ll wish him well wherever he ends up.

But it’s over here. The fan base is done with him. And honestly, I don’t know if the powers that be at 1925 Giants Way fully recognize that. This season has the potential to get really ugly fast if they run it back with him & the team sucks, which I would put good money on on March 18th.

I mostly agree. I don't hate him. I don't wish for him to fail. In fact, I actually didn't hate it when they picked him. A lot fo the draft info in the 2 weeks leading up to the draft were propping him up. That is why the heat in the media over the pick afterwards always pissed me off. At the time, he wasn't considered that much of a reach for a lot of people. He was expected to go in round one by many (most?) and not at the very end of the round either.

The reality for me is that he hasn't even remotely lived up to that draft spot. I believe it is time to move on. But, you say the fan base is done with him. That just isn't true. There are enough fans who don't believe that to make sticking with him not so far fetched. I just can't seem top get a gauge on how Daboll or Schoen or Kafka feel about him.

Our options will probably be between QB4 and WR3. If WR3 is a potential superstar than why can’t QB4 be called the same but at a much more valuable position?

And just because someone's the fourth QB drafted doesn't make them the 4th best. He could be QB2 on every teams individual board and still go qb4

wait until training camp when the giants led by jones “look good in shorts” playing against each other…. Play the starters for 1 preseason drive …. Daboll gets all cocky and has a bbq instead of practice and then they get their collective dicks rubbed in the dirt in the the 1st qtr of game 1… then it will be ugly

It may be WR2 depending on how things shake out. Also, the general consensus seems to be WR2 and WR3 are much closer to WR1 than QB3/4 are to QB 1/2.

To me, it may boil down to how much they think QB 3/4 differs from QB 5/6, because there is supposed to be some real high talent/value of WRs in round 2.

I have to disagree. I think it’s time to move on from Jones, but I don’t act like the guy fucked my mother in front of my little sister. I also don’t feel the need to pretend that he’s Zack Wilson or that the combo of Tyrod Taylor and Tommy Devito played some amazing level of football just to bitch even more about Jones (which they didn’t). And that’s definitely the vibe I get from a lot of people around here.

Imagine sharing anything from a certified piece of human detritus like Antonio Brown just to make a point about Daniel Jones. The piling on from many on BBI is unseemly and completely unnecessary.

I shared it because I found it to be comical coming from a certified nutjob like Antonio Brown. I thought it was funny, that Daniel Jones, of all people, was being targeted by this fruitcake. I have always been hopeful that DJ would figure it out and become worthy of the contract. Alas, the injuries, IMHO have removed any chance for that to happen. I was not attempting to pile on or make any kind of point about DJ. I have always rooted for his success.

Perhaps I give off that impression? I know I'm one of the more vocal 'We gotta move on from this dude' posters. But I've never said a bad word about the dude as a person. & if I come across as strident about him, it's 1) I can't stand the posters who circle back to the '22 WC game like it was 'The Drive' or something. That drives me up the wall. Mac Jones looked like an All Pro that season vs. that Vikes defense. 2) it seems like he gets excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse that other dudes don't get. It's the OL or the coaching or the lack of weapons or whatever...the man was drafted sixth overall & is making $40 million. Is it too much to ask for him to elevate others around him? 3) It's time. We know what he is. He's just not that good of a QB. He was drafted in April '19...the same month Tiger Woods won his last major in Augusta, prior to a pandemic, & when TB12 was still a Patriot. Its been a minute.
