To QB or not QB, That is the question…

DeVito32 : 3/18/2024 7:14 pm
I see a lot of differing opinions on BBI or Giants fans in general. You got the DJFC, DJ haters, and a few lingering in between. If I had to categorize myself, I’d guess I’d be in the DJFC since I do feel as Mara put it “we did everything we could to screw him up” Between terrible OL, bad coaching, bad skill positions, and last but not least injuries.

But I digress… I do believe we need a QB. I don’t love the QBs in this draft. I like them, but I’m honestly not sold on any of them being a franchise QB. But either we trust JS/Dabs or we don’t. At this moment I do. So if they believe one of these QBs is a franchise QB, then take him. If not, I’m curious what they do… I don’t want to draft a QB just to draft one. I know I sound a bit hypocritical saying we need a QB, I’m not sold on the QBs, I trust JS/Dabs to draft one they like, yet don’t draft one just to draft one lol. I’m curious what they do.

Draft one of the WR at 6? Trade down and accumulate picks lost in the Burns trade and still take a very good WR like Brian Thomas and have ammo to move up to get Nix/Penix? Trade down farther or twice and get a haul of picks and take Nix/Penix later in rd 1 instead of trading a lot of picks to move up from rd 2 to get one later in rd 1??

What say you? I’m most curious of the BBIers that never want to see DJ take another snap but also want no part of McCarthy and or Maye at the top of rd 1, most likely in a trade up. Let’s leave Caleb/Daniels out of this because they’re going 1 & 2.

**Before I get bombarded with comments. I joined BBI back in the early 2000s. Been a Giants fan since late 70s. I read the site daily since I joined, posted a little back in the day but mostly read. Lost my password and just never signed up again until this week. So I’m not a troll, I’m not someone with multiple handles etc. and I’m not related to Tommy lol.

I’m probably in the minority but I still think the Giants won’t have

their definitive plan until all the pro days are completed, and they’ve had their questions answered and concerns addressed. Then they’ll do their plan along with the contingency strategies they like to talk about. If they like JJ, they’ll go get him. If they like Penix or Nix, they’ll look to trade down. If they have concerns with all, they’ll go with a can’t miss WR. 38 days to go.

Based on your handle, I figured you as a 'Tommy D. should start Week 1!' dude.

I knew I was going to get a lot of that…
Get a blue chip player or trade down

Giants need a QB. That said don't pass up an elite WR for an average QB.

I think they start the season with Locke as the QB no matter what as I don't expect Jones to be ready or think throwing out a rookie Week 1 is wise.

Teams do not draft a class but a player

Who knows if any of this years crop will succeed.....

Who knows which QBs will step up next year.....and if they will succeed.
I think the Giants' whole approach to the QB posisition has been off.

They should be drafting QBs much more frequently. But they have a QB!! say the DJ fans. So what? Maybe you find a backup. Maybe you find a gem. Maybe you get a guy you can flip for picks. b]But they have other needs![/b] say other fans. But we keep running aground due to the lack of a reliable QB and backup.

I'm old enough to remember the Giants trying a quick fix with Fran Tarkenton. Tark was ok but the team wasn't good. Norm Snead? Craig Morton? Nope. Kerry Collins did well, Kurt Warner didn't work as a bridge QB. I'm not expecting the Giants to thrive with a veteran brought in from elsewhere; they need to develop their guy. That's what Daboll was brought in to do. Can he fix Drew Lock? Maybe, but don't ask him to fix someone else's mistake. Give him some talent he can mold.

De Vito was a baby step toward solving their QB issues. Teeny tiny baby step. I don't think much of De Vito but I'd love it if he surprises me. Letting Tyrod Taylor go and bringing in Drew Lock was kind of a lateral move, but Lock is younger, anyway, so there's that.

Get more young QBs in, and if you burn some draft picks, who cares? Later-round guys at any position are a lottery ticket. Besides, it gives you an incentive to accrue extra picks instead of trading picks for expensive veterans like Waller and, yes, Burns.
Who has the OP been listening to
giantstock : 3/18/2024 11:57 pm : link
That this QB class is not good?

SO he is going with his gut feeling that the QB's aren't;good despite it seems a consnenus is that they are good?
Too mnay posters scared of their own shadow

And look for any excuse to avoid change. Not meant at the OP but overall when posters say "I know we need a QB": -- and they aren't a Scout--

then who are they listening to - to avoid taking a QB?

Everything I've read and watched is that this is considered a good QB class and next year isn't.

So how is it even an iota of being reasonable of keeping Jones as the starting QB wihtout at least a good draft pick in the wings?

Below is what teh psoter HrdTruth made. Understand this -- how is it reasonbale to suggest or want Jones to start?
It's not reasonable -- it's reckless.

Daniel Jones has more injuries than has been mentioned
HardTruth : 5:10 pm : link : reply
Jones has had 2 mysterious and “unrelated” neck injuries as has been mentioned but he also had a mysterious and “unrelated” neck surgery in 2021.

Jones also had a pretty serious concussion in the pros and had a broken left clavicle in college in 2019.

That is 5 injuries to the neck and above area in 6 years.

Not to mention that he also has a had a right ankle sprain missing a game , right hamstring sprain missing a game, a high ankle sprain on right missing two games and now a torn ACL on his right knee. 4 injuries all to his to right leg.
