Watched it tonight on Prime. I'm not usually a fan of remaking classic Swayze movies but man. I couldn't have loved that anymore.
Great call backs to the original. Definitely had some Jack Reacher vibes. Good humor. Good action. Oh and Conor McGregor is an absolute menace.
An absolute menace 🤣
Good fun, if plot doesn’t matter.
Likewise, I generally hate these remakes, but the good reviews here have me curious to give it a shot
I wonder what his diet, daily routine is to look like that.
the midcredits scene.
Straight boxing role... Different story. He never had to be FIERCE. He was a boxer, shit happened and he resumed being a boxer.
There is nothing scary about Jake Gyllenhaal as a fighter. Sorry, there isnt.
I could barely keep it on personally. It was basically a shitty adaptation of the original movie with Connor McGregor acting like Connor McGregor

It was entertaining, but my goodness there were some disastrously corny lines.

So McGregor is back to punching old dudes in bars and doing massive amounts of cocaine?

Aw shit.
Yep. Saw that when I got home and did the obvious - ignored my family and gave it a watch. They did a crazy good job making the hits look like real contact.

Very good friend was in it. Had a few lines. Said they thought he was hurt during the take he made it look so real lol. Glad people are liking it. Haven’t had time to watch but def will

Watch him in Southpaw, one of my favorites.

got enormous for that role.

It’s acting. I brought up south paw because prior to that role it would have been strange to think about him looking like that and turning into a boxer. He’s a good actor, I completely buy him being able to play this role too.
The original had skinny bouncer beating the shit out of everyone. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously.
I will watch for myself, but I was surprised to read so many people on here liked it when so far most of what I have seen is negative. especially about Conor's role.
All Terry, nothing else. - ( New Window )

It’s pretty well rated on RT from critics and users. Seems like if nothing else it’s a fun action movie. Add in a good actor like Gyllenhaal and I think it’ll be solid at the very least. McGregor is a clown but that’s kinda what I’m looking forward to.

that's quite a take, lol.
What exactly was "scary" about Swayze?
But he's not taking it seriously. He's way too hard for that.
i know we’re not supposed to take it seriously, but maybe the “actors” should?
BBI divided. I'm shocked. Lol
The original hits on a very specific "this kind of ridiculous film could only exist in the 80s" vibe.
I doubt anybody involved even thought they were making a good movie, they were making an enjoyable bad movie. The kind of movie you recognize is incredibly dumb and yet if it's on you'll watch the entire thing.
Excuse the spelling! =)
Back in the 90's (and up to the aughts, I believe), the original was classified in the top tier of 'martial arts'-grossing movies!

Plus the rest of an outstanding cast … no thanks on a remake.

The original is the quintessential “so bad it’s good” movie. And I agree, I think part of its enduring appeal is it wasn’t trying to be anything more than it was.
Which can be said of many cult classics of the 80s and 90s, the kind they don’t make anymore
So a big thank you to those responsible for that

Nothing, lol. But if you watched the remake It's definitely supposed to be more intense and edgier. The Patrick swayze one had plenty of romance and stuff in it as well

There was an interview this morning asking Gyllenhaal if any of the hits landed and he said yes. One of the shots by McGregor stunned him pretty good. McGregor is not an experienced actor and he's not real good at making a punch look real where it doesn't actually hit the guy.
I liked the movie, and even though McGregor played the part of a complete asshole bad guy, I had to laugh as he strutted through the streets buck naked with all the bravado of a stripper that loves her body. He struts without shame. LOL
the mid-credits scene.
Oh yeah, I started to change channels during the credits and all the sudden it goes back to the movie to focus on McGregor. Funny as heck.
Based on this thread alone, I turned the remake on 40 minutes ago.
This is a flaming pile of dog shit.
WTF are you guys talking about who like this?
Finally watched it and really liked it since its so 80's. Sam Elliott is great in my opinion in almost every role he's in too.
I was thinking about watching the remake, but was not sure about Gyllenhaal in that role. Looks like a lot of mixed opinions here.
I bet the idiots flaming away on this movie are same the ones that loved the Barbie movie…which was the truly flaming piece of shit.
Get the fuck over yourselves. This movie was mindless fun.

You have the worst takes. You truly suck, lol.
