Jalin Hyatt Year Two

Tom the Giants fan. : 3/22/2024 3:26 pm
Forgive if it's already been discussed.

With the 73rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Jalin Hyatt out of Tennesee.

I admit his was the the most intriguing Giants pick for me in that draft. I watched his highlight films and saw that breakaway speed and sure hands the Giants needed in thier wide receiver group. I believe the concensus was that the talent was there but he was raw and would need time to develop.

With the completion of his first season, I am not sure what to expect of the Hyatt in 2024. Hyatt finished last year with 23 receptions for 373 yards and no TD's. His best game came against the Pats with 5 receptions for 109 yards. Obviously who's throwing him the ball is a big factor.

What are your thoughts on this important draft pick from 2023?

Nabers, if added

Should help the offense especially if the giants can take advantage of the added professional O line coaching along with all the free agent O line players…
Hyatt would make the ideal
Dave on the UWS : 3/22/2024 3:33 pm : link
#2 receiver. Makes big plays, scores TDs with attention being shaded to the other side of the field.
He wiil do okay if he has a QB who doesn’t need a lot of hangtime
Ivan15 : 3/22/2024 3:37 pm : link
To throw 60 yards,
I think he's still a work in progress with a very high ceiling. He's
Ira : 3/22/2024 3:40 pm : link
got a lot going for him - not just speed. He could turn out to be a 1.
He's raw
JonC : 3/22/2024 3:41 pm : link
needs work on his route tree, and understanding what he needs to do out there on gameday, needs to battle to defeat his defender, and not leave any plays on the field. In other words, he needs to mature as a pro WR.

His presence shouldn't preclude NYG from investing more at WR.
Hate to use this comparison yet
mpinmaine : 3/22/2024 3:48 pm : link
I think of Hyatt as taking the role of Alvin Harper with Dallas on those annoyingly good early 90s teams opposite the cocky Michael Irving.
This is IF NYG goes WR at 6...

Which is what I hope unless one of two QB is there at 6
Good with Taylor invisible with Jones
averagejoe : 3/22/2024 3:57 pm : link
Taylor no longer on the team. That is what you can expect .
It used to be year 3... and then college star receivers blossomed into
Capisce : 3/22/2024 4:01 pm : link
stars in the League. As the college game evolved and the pro game adopted more read/options, we saw receivers come in and make immediate impacts.

Still, it should not be a surprise for a young wideout to dramatically improve after a year or two at the next level.

Agreed.
Hyatt needs a QB who can get him the ball
ElitoCanton : 3/22/2024 5:11 pm : link
he was always open. Either not seen or bad throws.
I think he
Amtoft : 3/22/2024 5:13 pm : link
has a lot of potential. He got deep a few times and the throws were off. He also dropped a few balls on shorter throws that I think he would normally catch if he was more in rhythm. The OL was the worst in the league so longer developing players like go routes are tough. He was raw coming in so I think his first year was good and he will get better. It is why I don't want to trade him.
if they can get everything else fixed he can have a big year
Eric on Li : 3/22/2024 5:16 pm : link
they have competition for targets at WR and should add more in the draft but the amount of separation he was able to get downfield was eye opening. he has rare explosiveness few others do and better coordination catching the ball than i expected.

he triggered the AZ comeback on what could have easily been a TD.

he had the big game vs NE.

a few other very near TDs.

he has massive upside if the OL can protect and QBs can deliver him the ball.
i mean watch the highlights almost every one of these catches
Eric on Li : 3/22/2024 5:20 pm : link
was high degree of difficulty. it's only 2 minutes long.

i forgot that 4th + 5 catch vs buffalo, that was nice.

Agreed. Hyatt's talent jumps off the screen. He's really a victim of his environment at this point.

If he played in KC last year, for example, it's not difficult to imagine him playing a big role for Mahomes.
Other than a few crossing patterns
mfjmfj : 3/22/2024 5:34 pm : link
Almost every pass to him, even the ones he caught were underthrows. I am a real believer. I think he can make the right QB look great. We need Rex Grossman!
Would love yo see Penix throwing
kelly : 3/22/2024 7:56 pm : link
Him the ball.

He is a waste with Jones at qb.
Speedy receivers need
SleepyOwl : 3/23/2024 7:24 am : link
QBs with big arms.
The improvements to the ol should help give him time to get open on
Ira : 3/23/2024 7:45 am : link
those deep routes.
For the most part he runs deeper routes...
DefenseWins : 3/23/2024 7:46 am : link
so although I agree that we need a QB who can get him the ball, we also need time for that play to develop.
As ironic as this sounds, Hyatt needs to work on his route tree
nygiantfan : 3/23/2024 8:16 am : link
just like was mentioned consistently pre-draft.

Despite the remarks you read by some of the BBI analysts on here, he was available after round one for good reasons.

He has 0 NFL TDs.

It would help having a QB who can get him in the ball down the field.

typically useless comment. what rookie doesnt have things to work on? LAC would swap him for quentin johnston in a heartbeat. If hyatt had herbert throwing him the ball last year he'd have probably had 10 tds and close to 1k yards.

there were only about a dozen receivers with more catches 40+ yards than hyatt last year and he got a fraction of the targets they all got.
some #'s - hyatt w/ crappy qb play was among best deep wrs in nfl
Eric on Li : 3/23/2024 12:15 pm : link
his average depth of target on deep balls 37 yards down field was among the highest in the nfl. only 10 WRs had more than his 3 contested catches on deep balls. and almost every deep catch he made was a poorly thrown ball that could have been a td.

with the ability to create big plays the way he does the rest of the route tree is a nice to have but not a must.

That first throw by Jones was slightly late in getting there. In stride, I think was a touchdown.

Player evaluation is not your strength. Not sure really what is but you seem to provide more condescending and egotistical remarks than almost anybody on the site. And that is truly ironic as well if you think about it.

it doesnt take a scout to realize a player who made big plays made big plays. they are right there on video and everything.

your knowledge of my posting habits that seemingly predate your registration is only as impressive as your inability to stand out as an obvious sock puppet. but hey, congrats on your new handle. we should come up with a safe word so next time i can be quicker to mute you.
Your posting habits don’t need predating anything. You’re as arrogant
nygiantfan : 3/23/2024 6:19 pm : link
as one can be and, as I said, it is ironic since you seem to miss the mark pretty often. Over-valuing NY Giant players and your football acumen is a weekly thing for you. This thread is a perfect example.

Next stop for Eric the L will be the Giants should have kept Jones, Saquon and Leonard Williams if they wanted to get anywhere in this division. Your personal restructuring plan.
I think Hyatt will take big strides in year 2.
BleedBlue46 : 3/23/2024 6:38 pm : link
Lock would be better getting him the ball than DJ imo. I see Hyatt having the potential to be a #1 or easily a #2 and I think he is still growing into his body. I now see why he entered the draft last year though. This year's wr class is truly exceptional.

His biggest game with Jones was 2 targets/2 receptions for 89 yards. His biggest game with Tyrod was 5 targets/2 receptions for 75 yards.

Biggest statistical game was against New England with DeVito starting. 6 targets/5 receptions for 109 yards.

His other games were under 25 yards.

pretty sure i havent suggested extending leonard williams since you "registered" in may 2023, though having argued he was a fairly compensated good player as i did for years you were in time to see that validated by the fact that another team was willing to trade a 2nd round pick for him. you've got the following and resentment down but if your going to make it to the top tier of dupe stalkers you're going to have to do a better job remembering what's actually been said.

and as it turns out it wasnt the giants or me who gave barkley or williams the contracts they currently have. those were each done by gms w sb rings. you seem to miss the mark even on the meaning of the phrase 'miss the mark'.
No need to flatter yourself as no one is stalking you. And it was you
nygiantfan : 3/24/2024 1:46 am : link
that threw the first stone above because you didn’t like someone else bringing a different opinion to yours on a NYG player.

How shocking your ego couldn’t withstand such a take. It only happens about every other thread you are on.
