Cosell's comments were pretty quick at the beginning of his podcast this week. Big burns fan.

Mueller has probably been higher on the giants moves than anyone else, schmelk did a 40m interview with him today full of good stuff.

That was one of the first times i've heard him in a longer form interview. really good listen.
I actually wasn't his biggest fan in smaller doses as "a broadcaster" but kind of like baldinger when in a different atmosphere where you can hear the work they put in behind the scenes it allows more appreciation.
another thread made it sound like Warner is on that list too.
a few weeks ago i thought his FA rankings of runyan (#19) and eluemunor (#26) seemed like a guy who was just throwing names at a wall.
he had robert hunt #52 and onwenu #53 who both got 19-20m per year, just 1 spot ahead of #54 ashawn robinson.
id still very much doubt the 2 guys the NYG got end up better than the guys who he ranked lower but got a lot more $, but i appreciate that he does seem to at least put the work in behind his opinions. cross our fingers he and schoen are right.
his opinion on QB is exactly where ive been since schoens comments at the bye week.
with 4-6 potential first round QBs I sort of took for granted that they'd get their pick of a few and come to the conclusion that they have to pick one because they may never get the chance again. but now with the possibility of QBs going 1-4 im not as sure. Though if plan B is Odunze or Nabers that's a great plan B.
his comments on Marvin Harrison Jr were also very notable (unique?) bc most people treat him like the chalk best non-QB without much ambiguity.
Based on Mueller's commentary you could believe he'd go higher than six.

I think if you're taking bets on what plays out, McCarthy at 6 might be the favorite.

Definitely possible.
This is where you hope Schoen's front office has significant intelligence-gathering capabilities.
problem is i would bet against him getting to 6 right now.
i've said qb for a while now but i think im close to flipping my nyg bet to wr because the qbs are gone. may just be buying the hype though. 4 QBs in the top 10 is rare so 4 in the top 6 would be a total outlier outcome.
McCarthy at 6 would be a dream at this point to me, I think it would only be possible if the Vikings traded up for Maye or if the Patriots took Maye and the Cardinals/Chargers didn't want to trade down to 11. I feel like it's about a 25-34% chance (85.12% of percentages are made up).

Absolutely, if Schoen loves one of these guys he has to know the path to getting him. The Intel will be crucial to avoid overpaying while also avoiding being left S.O.L. and potentially watching the guy you felt conviction on turn into an elite franchise QB.
Is anyone going to trade up for Maye? I dont think so. I think he drops.
He’s the first guy I’ve heard question Maye’s arm talent.
Definitely encouraging to hear a former GM be so bullish on our FA signings.
1--- He has FA OL ratings vastly different than most.
2--- He has this QB class a lot lower than most. Especially Penix/Nix. I know some will say Penix not much - but anyhow I hear Pnix as a value in rd 1 - the discussion for Penix/Nix was "rd 2/3."
3--- He said take BPA unless you really need QB. This highlights you have to question what he is seeing - because it is a combo of either or both obvious and reckless that the Giants don't need a QB.
4--- His comments regarding MHV how some scouts don't like how he didn't work out. Possibly it’s the over-the hill scouts which he may also be an over-the-hill GM. Secondly, I can't tell which WR's to take but he seems to not believe MHV is #1 and again just like above he is in a big minority. Couple this with him making comments about MHV not working out despite MHV's dad speaking why- this may signal Mueller is just too old to adapt - i.e. like another old timer we recently had a horrible experience with.
5--- If he is proven right - he is a savant. If he is wrong and JS follows his path then it's probably not good. WR's are overrated vs Franchise QB's. If any of the Qbs hit very well and the Giants passed up on them, and are stuck with no QB, – and having to be desperate in 2025 because of all of this, then that is a clear blunder. Who give a crap about a very good WR when you can’t do shit if you eventually get into the Playoffs and don’t have a very, very good QB?
That means trenches on both sides after the 1st rd WR. Somwewhere get the CB but if you don't have a franchise type QB then you have to build a strong OL. And you have to have a very, very, very STRONG Defense which starts in the trenches.
So in a way Mueller could be right if they focus on trenches. without a stellar QB (until they find one. . .).
He's big on JJM has him as #2. Doesn't like Maye as much. Good feedback on the QBs.

The problem with this is that as difficult as it is to find the QB, what the 49ers have done is like even more difficult. How many more drafts to the Giants need to field a team of 8 or 9 Pro Bowlers? And then, being able to sustain that success is another massive issue. Keeping all of those pro bowlers healthy and then being able to keep them all around as you are building is next to impossible in a salary cap sport. And as successful as the Niners have been, even with an incredibly stacked roster they have not won a Super Bowl with this group

Pro Bowlers are voted as such if you win - it's also very subjective. For example, the 49ers Fullback has been a pro bowler the past two years. And for example the 49ers had one OL in as Pro Bowler yet they had Purdy and no WR's. Would Purdy be a Pro Bowler without this combo of OL and WR?
As far as health /longevity they have been to 2 Super Bowls and two NFC Championships in 5 years. That's very good. Looking at the AFC, what other team has had more success other than KC?
And that brings to the point about not winning the Super Bowl. In the last 4 years two QB's have won-- Brady and Mahomes. All-time great QB's. Being just Hall-of Fame "Great" isn't good enough if Super Bowl winning is the only criteria. If it isn't the only criteria, the imo the 49er's way is an alternative. Why wouldn’t it be if it compares just as well vs any other team in NFL without Mahomes or Brady?
In listening to Mueller he seems to think Caleb Williams is in a class above McCarthy (who is above others). So, using Super Bowl winning or bust as the barometer- and using Mueller's opinion as the path-- what are the chances to get Caleb? IMO-- none.
For the record, I’m skeptical of Mueller but ofc realize he could be exactly correct. But until I hear more that share his opinion, I believe there are 5 up to 6 good QB’s.

giantstock, thanks, but this analysis fails to take account of the Jones injury/guaranty issue and how the position should be managed

I'm for getting a qb.

I think if Mueller were Schoen he would do everything he possibly could to get JJM. Am I wrong?
