Otto Graham Highlights - ( New Window )
+1
His release?
Namath had the same release and WON a SB despite being a double digit underdog .... and is not on that list.
This is why I hate lists ....

I always struggle with Marino
Perhaps I get seduced by his arm and total # of yards...but no championship
Where do you rank him?
The 19 1⁄2- points underdog American Football League (AFL) champion New York Jets defeated the National Football League (NFL) champion Baltimore Colts by a score of 16–7.
PS. If this was your personal list then I will not argue with you. It is not really quantifiable imo - your opinion is as good as mine. I thought you were posting a list made by the SF Chronicle?
I love watching those old clips with that white football...
He had a cannon!!!
upon a 2nd reading it looks like you were talking about about Marino. Marino was a fine QB ... HOF stats and deservedly so ... but, it is to hard and I am such a anal, type a person ... if it is not equal across the board and it can never be equal (Different eras = different training techniques, different salaries, Different rules, deferent every-thing ... lol)
It can't be measured accurately ... trying not to shit on your parade here. Sorry.
But when comparing careers with the other HOF QBs ..his #s just don't add up
Look at his W/L and TD/INT #s

No worries dude
I think you have Young too low.
While I enjoyed Farve, he took too many risks to be higher on the list. But really fun to watch.
5. Marino
4. Elway
3. Mahomes
2. Brady
1. Montana
Interesting first blush reaction
He is kind of Marino before Marino
YA retired with the most passing yards at the time but had no Championships
Definitely needs a.much closer look for the next list

1. Montana
Montana #1
I like it!!!
I would take him over Favre. Favre was great for 3 or 4 years and only really good for most of the rest of his career. I would rank him similar to Elway.
Had the greatest offense of his era. Consistently successful in the playoffs. 4 times to the SB in a row was unheard of. That they are all losses is a big blemish, but should not erase the rest of his success. One less SB than Favre or Rodgers. Same as Marino.
Plus he called his own plays, which even in that era never happened.
Obviously not in the conversation for GOAT (Brady, Mahomes, Montana) or tier 2 greats (P. Manning, Rodgers, Elway) But he is right behind that. Not saying he is seventh, since I did not include any player I did not watch, but he definitely should be on this list.
Cannon arm
Accurate passer
Scrambling ability to extend plays
Running ability behind the LOS
Smart “field general” (I.e. much, much more than game manager)
This, and Brees is too high - and who’s Young?

Assuming Steve Young.
Surprised no mention of Fouts or Moon though others brought up Stabler.
Thanks for that link,it is too stats based, which makes comparing eras nearly impossible...IMHO
1 championship and a bad TD/INT Ratio keeps him from the top 15.
The league he plays in barely resembles what the others achieved greatness in.

Can’t tell if sarcasm?

Great player who could have played in any era. If any QB is underrated, it's Elway.
He's as underrated as Namath is overrated.

You mean Joe Montana's backup?

Mahomes probably will be top 5 when he is done but it's too early in his career to put him their yet
