One missing piece of the puzzle for the D-Line.

DonnieD89 : 3/23/2024 10:16 am
This is a very exciting time for the Giants D-Line. With Kayvon, Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and Brian Burns, that is 3/4 of the line that Bowen has thus far for his four-man front that looks to be dominant. I am very interested in seeing what they are going to do to fill that spot next to DexterLawrence. If played right, this could be a top five D-Line. The question is, how are they going to fill that last missing piece. Sounds likely coming from the draft if they can pull it off quickly. Very curious as to the outcome.
great point

This needs to be addressed early on day 2, even if it takes a trade up
We should be able to get pressure with

who we already have so I’m good trotting out DJ, Riley, Nacho and a cheap vet/Day 3 guy this year.

Unless an iDL is the clear bpa I’d use the rd 2 and 3 picks elsewhere.
There are some really good DT in this draft that can be had in

Rd 1-3, I hope we get one
In Coach Andre Patterson, we trust

D.J. Davidson, J.Riley and Nunez-Roche should continue to develop...definitely offer decent depth.

I see a ton of talent available in the 2nd Rd of draft!!!

Q: Will Burns and Thibs play with hands in dirt or edge....4 down lineman or 3 with 2 edge.
I’ve been saying all along the top 3 picks will be WR, QB and DL.

The question is in what order?
We only have a few draft picks
Rudy5757 : 3/23/2024 10:31 am : link
And more holes than we have picks. I’d say it’s most likely going to be filled with the guys we have already and a vet minimum FA. Too many other high priority holes to fill in the draft.
Riley had a few plays
Giantimistic : 3/23/2024 10:35 am : link
That had dominant aspects to them. He could reallly surprise this year with the other 3 getting a lot of attention.
WR Round 1
Trainmaster : 3/23/2024 10:37 am : link
DT Round 2 (Kris Jenkins?)
QB Round 3

I’m hoping to get a guy
DonnieD89 : 3/23/2024 10:38 am : link
like Chris Jenkins I with pick 70.
I’d be fine using a mid round pick on DL

Realistically a dominant line helps the secondary. You also need a solid rotation. Guys need breathers, guys get hurt, short yardage downs etc. They def need another CB too, but pressure makes things easier on young DBs.
What worries me the most

Is that we are one Dexter injury away from having absolutely nothing on the interior. Defensive line. No depth whatsoever.

Agree. Even before signing Runyon and Eluemunor I thought DL would be a priority, if only to appease the new DC’s needs.

Jenkins would be a great selection at 70.
Maason Smith of LSU on Day 3

We need a 3 tech

that would be nice
Can’t forget about Riley. Whether he steps

Up another notch or not, they seem to have gotten a viable player. I’m more than happy to role with him going into the season if need be.
a Kris Jenkins or Brandon Dorlus type on day 2 would be ideal

someone with enough size/strength to hold up but also has the athleticism to make plays.

if they wanted to roll the dice on tvondre sweat i wouldnt complain about that either.

Good news is this draft has a lot of mid round 3tech DTs
BigBlue7 : 3/23/2024 11:49 am : link
Wouldn't be surprised if we add one one day 2 or 3
Jenkins, Murphy, or Sweat
PatersonPlank : 3/23/2024 12:10 pm : link
I'll take any one of them, and we can get them in Rd 2. Maybe even Rd 3
What's missing is some players that can stop the defense from getting

gashed by big runs late in a game that has caused them some victories!

Some interest in Byron Murphy…not sure he makes it out of round 1, let alone to 47. That said, I wouldn’t mind Fiske or Jenkins. This is the biggest need on Defense that they should address through the draft. Hard to find quality DL through FA at this point.

They could really round out the defense nicely with another DT, CB2 (White?) and another safety (maybe the 3rd wave of FA as there is some intriguing names out there like Blackmon, Jackson, Kearse, Diggs etc)

Sweat is gonna eat himself out of the league. He's pushing 400 pounds. I would nt draft him in any round.

How many draft picks do you think we have?

We're one of the teams with the fewest draft picks.
There's a need for a 3-tech and a 5-tech on the roster.
Angel Eyes : 3/23/2024 2:19 pm : link
With how Bowen ran his schemes in Tennessee where he had Jeffery Simmons ruining guards' days. I would say the Giants would draft a 3-Tech and there are a few options particularly on Day 2 like Johnny Newton, Byron Murphy, Ruke Orhorhoro, Leonard Taylor, Kris Jenkins, and Braden Fiske.

The problem lies at 5-Tech manning the C-gap on a tackle's outside shoulder. I don't have a lot of faith in whether or not Burns or Thibodeaux can, especially in a 2-man front. Right now one of our nose tackles (Nacho, Davidson, Riley) would have to man that spot; are any of them able to maneuver and hold the point of attack with blockers? We might have to look at free agency to find one cheap.

As of right now we're a 2-4-5 defense, which doesn't bode well for the run defense.
