If that’s true he will officially be renamed Davoli.

It changes of course if they draft a QB in the 1st
there is no reason they need to be done with jones right now. there apparently wasnt a starter they liked better in FA (which RW could have been at league minimum) and they dont know what will happen in the draft until it happens. and if they draft a qb they wont know what they have in that player until camp.
there is also no reason they need to be committed to jones beyond the obvious. his contract is only guaranteed for 1 more year and not unlike any rookie, they have no idea what they are getting in jones post-rehab until he starts practicing.
the only thing they need to be committed to is giving themselves options and "leaving no stone unturned". it would be foolish for them to be all in or all out on anything right now. they could be all in on a top 4 qb and still miss out or all out on jones and he surprises them. that is sports. there are unknowns and 31 other teams you cant control.
But I think the Giants (JS and BD) want everyone to think Jones is their guy so they don't get jumped for JJM at the draft.
i think it's possible if not likely they like JJM a lot, but whether or not jones is their starting qb the minnesota and arizona decisions about trading have little to do with the giants/jones.
if minnesota thinks he's their guy they are going to offer what they need to get to #4.
if arizona is willing to move down, they will take it.
if arizona isn't willing than the LAC probably will be.
the giants sitting at #6 are a consideration but any team that wants qb4 and willing to trade up is an even bigger threat.

Probably, but I don’t think other teams are stupid enough to fall for that. They have seen Jones play and know he’s coming off an ACL and multiple neck injuries.

Why does this discount the possibility that we could trade up too?

it doesn't they 100% could move up, but PR stories about jones has nothing to do with that. the giants arent going to influence their own decisions with their own PR.
my point was that other teams arent making their decisions to draft QBs based on Giants/Jones.

Exactly, he loses nothing by saying this. If the new QB is playing well when Jones get healthy, then he can just say he is staying with the hot hand.

It's been a fun off season on BBI
