Thoughts on Jordan Travis?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 3/23/2024 7:28 pm
He fractured his leg last November that ended his season & all but ended the Noles' shot of getting into the CFP. He said he should be good to go prior to training camps opening this summer. Before going down, he was having an impressive season & still ended up fifth in the Heisman voting. While I definitely watch too much college football in the eyes of the better half, I think he's a pretty good QB.

That said, my track record is spotty when it comes to translating college QBs to the pros: I thought Joey Harrington was going to end up in Canton. I also thought Matt Ryan would be out of the league in 3 years. On the flip side, I remember being flabbergasted in the moment that TB12 lasted until the 199th pick in '00 because I watched a shit ton of Michigan games when he was the QB/that '00 Orange Bowl & thought he'd be at least be a solid NFL QB. I wish gambling had been legal @ the time & I would have put overs on everything related to him, Haha.

I get the negatives on Travis: he's small & has legit medical flags, much like Hooker last draft. He's also 24 this spring, which can be construed as a negative, even though Eli was 23 when we got him.

Most mocks have him going in the 3rd or later, but if we don't move up from six @ draft a QB/don't draft a QB @ 6/trade back into the 1st for one...if we still have the pick @ 70, I'd take a flyer on him. But that's me. What say you?
I don’t mind

anyone who they see potential in. If they think they can make something great out of Travis, then so be it. Gotta have faith that these guys can develop a QB.
Yes, I'd roll the dice

with him if they cannot get one of the big six. He is a winner. Probably too slightly built for the NFL. He seems to be nothing special, but he finds the open guy and can move.
I do not know why, but I do like him better than Rattler and Milton.
I like Travis as a day 3 pick (4th/5th rd)

I believe the injury has pushed him down the draft boards as well as not getting the benefit of a full season and Senior Bowl/combine look.

In Ncaa stats he is 5th in active career leaders in passing yards per attempt with 8.49 yards. A dual threat, Travis is 10th in active career leaders in total yards for players with 4,000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing. Travis was second among top nine quarterbacks in the following career stats: rushing TDs per game (0.63), gain per rush (4.7 yards), points per game (3.92) and total TDs scored per game (0.653). Travis was third among the top nine quarterbacks in rushing yards per game (39.8).

Two of Travis’s best performances came when one of FSU’s top receivers, Johnny Wilson, missed both games due to injury. The Seminoles’ other star receiver, Keon Coleman, sat out against Pitt. Even with those and other receiver injuries, Travis responded with his two most prolific games of the season. He passed for a season-high 359 yards against the Demon Deacons, then broke that mark by throwing for 360 at Pitt. His first six completions at Pitt went to six different receivers.

He is on ahead of schedule recovery wise to do some drills before the draft. The Jets are having him in for a visit.

I have cooled on my PFF grading lately but here is the draft quarterbacks career grades. Travis was fifth.

There’s a few guys like him who are intriguing

But I’d have to see more games to have informed opinion, but if the staff sees them as worth a shot as a project, I’m all for it.
Funny the first time I saw him was against LSU

Because I wanted to check Daniels out. I thought he was out playing him and I was like who is this guy. He must being coming out in the next draft because I haven’t heard his name. So I looked him up and was surprised. Then I saw his listed size, I didn’t realize he was that small watching him live.

I would be interested, but as a flyer much later in the draft. I’ve been drafting him in the mock sims in the 6th round every time. Don’t know if he really last that long.
I should have added that he was super fun to watch

And I’d be excited if they drafted him in any round they see fit.
I’m going to do my deep dive into the draftable

FSU players soon. I’ll give my full take on Travis there but the long and the short of it is that no one is going to outwork JT13. He went from terrible passer 4 years ago to legit Heisman contender and while too small and lacks the arm strength to be in the upper round conversations someone is going to draft him.
of the QBs not in the discussion for day 1 he's my favorite

he has athletic limitations but he was a gamer. his arm may not play but guys have added arm strength before. i think he'd be better than cutlets day 1.
Boylhart's a big fan...

...the first time I saw Jordan it took me about 5 plays to see the obvious. I saw the arm talent, athletic quickness and speed, and the High Football IQ and believe me if Jordan hadn’t been injured he would have been considered as a possible top-ten QB in this draft. The truth is, even if he works out, I suspect he will not be selected in the first three rounds of this draft. Nevertheless, I see a potential starting quarterback and a possible franchise quarterback but I’m not going to lose my job if I’m wrong. Those who will lose their jobs if they are wrong, have to be more conservative in their analyses of Jordan, and I understand that totally. Even if Jordan had played for the whole season and continued to put up the numbers and wins he was putting up before his injury, I’m sure there would be doubters because of his size and only one year of playing stats.

I don’t think his arm is good enough

And there were a lot of times he was a touch too late on post patterns at FSU.
I think the Giants should cluster draft QB
Jaenyg : 3/24/2024 10:37 am : link
A La Washington in 2012 draft and Jordan Travis could be a target for 2nd QB drafted.

This is true, but I wonder if this isn't something that can be coached?
JT was a very good college player...

I would take a late flyer on him. He's pretty pocket savvy, can extend plays, and seemed to be a good leader.

I'd rather have their DE Verse
xman : 3/24/2024 10:58 pm : link
and their WR Coleman
