Might a 3-way deal be the best option?

UberAlias : 3/24/2024 9:25 am
Say NYG loves Maye and the Pats either prefer McCarthy to Maye or view them as the same. Pats need picks and Az has already said they're open for business.

So if Washington takes Daniels, then the three teams execute a deal that would send the #3 pick to NYG to select Maye, the #4 pick to NE to select McCarthy. Az moves to 6 and knowing who the other two are selecting gets to select their choice of any non-QB outside of who the Chargers pick -so MHJ, Alt, Nabors, Odunze, etc.

The rest of the deal is whatever it takes to make the arrangement work for everyone, but NYG gets their QB and at a lesser cost than would have been required had they traded with NE only. NE still gets their QB, plus needed pick(s), and Az acquires picks without sacrificing any draftable options had they stayed put other than the one player the Chargers take.

Is this not potential to be a win-win-win?
There is always potential

What if WAS wants Maye or McCarthy?

Sex jokes aside, that makes sense unless 'Zona is in love with someone like MH Jr. & don't want to risk losing him to the Bolts. & I could see LAC taking Harrison Jr. if he's still there to pair him with Herbert.
The best option might well be

wait till 6 and take the BPA. But no one wants to hear that.

Too moving parts, and I agree I'll be surprised if AZ moves off #4 will they get to pick the first WR off the board.
Can't remember a 3-way trade being made in the NFL

Plenty of them in the NBA. Can anyone remind me of a 3-way NFL trade?

I’ve thought about this before
BrianLeonard23 : 3/24/2024 9:50 am : link
Not a 3 way trade, I don’t think those happen in the NFL (are they allowed?)

NYG trades up to 5 and then again to 4. So the new order is

NYG 4
ARZ 5
LAC 6

We are assured a QB and both of them are still assured their top targets.

This crossed my mind too and would be the one way to relax the Cardinals, but the cost of moving up twice seems unlikely.

Eric Dickerson trade with Buffalo, Colts and Rams in the 80's.

it’s a draft day trade. You only do if Washington takes Daniels.

I’m fine with them staying at 6. But the question here assumes they love Maye. He’s not making it to 6.
In a vacuum

it sounds good. The wild card is Minnesota. They’re gonna do their best to crash the party, and will make sure that the price to move up will not be cheap.
A couple of things
UberAlias : 3/24/2024 10:14 am : link
If NYG knew for sure NE preferred McCarthy or they themselves didn’t care which they got, they would work with Az exclusively. So this assumes 1. The target is Maye where the only way to be sure to get him is a move to 3, and that NE is set on a QB and won’t move out if it means risking missing out on one of the top 4. Both are very plausible, but are assumptions taken in this hypothetical.

Correct. They may be able to offer a deal to Az which they prefer. But the advantage for Az in dealing with NYG is that they may risk losing a blue chip player dealing that far back. Also, NE is not an option for them if NE is set on one of the top 4 QBs.

Perhaps if they stay at 6. But they have said they are open for business. So this deal could assure them something like MH and a second round pick if Chargers do not take MH or worst case their pick of Nabors/Edunze plus a second round pick if Chargers take MH. Not a bad deal for them.
I think you're more likely to see this happen in stages
LW_Giants : 3/24/2024 10:29 am : link
where Giants move up to 4 then to 3 rather than a true three team trade, if something like this is going to happen.
More likely to see us trade up twice to make it
BleedBlue46 : 3/24/2024 1:10 pm : link
NYG 4 AZ 5 LAC 6 imo. Schoen is good at planning for myriad possibilities. I imagine he's doing his due diligence on all possible scenarios (trade to 3, trade up twice to 4, trade to 4, trade to 5, sit at 6, trade down from 6, and maybe even trade to 4 then trade to 3). We know they were prepared for every possible scenario when they moved up for Allen, I'm sure the same is being done now. Whatever happens, Schoen will be prepared.
If NE wants Daniels but Washington takes him
Rjanyg : 3/24/2024 1:44 pm : link
Do they still go QB? If so, Schoen needs to know who they will take prior to moving up. If AZ is dead set on MHJ then the only team you need to trade with is LAC to 5. This is assuming NYG likes JJM and JM the same or close to the same.

So it will go:
1. Williams
2. Daniels
3. Maye or JJM
4. MHJ
5. NYG drafting Maye or JJm
6. LAC going WR most likely.

The key to all of this is know what NE plans are and if AZ is all in on MHJ. LAC is in prime position to pick up an extra 3rd round pick in this draft from us. Maybe we get a 5th round in return since moving up one spot should really be a 4th from NYG.

So, NYG trades our 2024 1st and 3rd for LAC 1st and 5th. We get our young QB, one of Maye or JJM. We keep our 2nd rounder and still have 6 picks in this draft.

That would be ideal only if the 4th qb is one Schdabka want and only if Min trades up with NE.
I could imagine Schoen with handshake deals to go from 6 to 5 and

Az has already said they would consider trades. So this notion of it being MHJ and nothing else doesn't jive. If NYG is okay with settling for QB4, they can probably work out a deal with Az directly.

The challenge is if NYG needs to get to 3 to be sure to get their guy. In that case, a 3-way deal may be the only way to get there. There is a path where we get our QB3, NE gets their QB4 plus a pick, and Az gets their elite WR plus a pick (and has a reasonable chance at being MHJ anyway).
