Dying to hear from two coaches: Bricillo and Bowen

Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/24/2024 3:50 pm
Our new offensive line coach and new defensive coordinator.

I'm also curious about the personalities of our new special teams coordinator (Ghobrial), new tight ends coach (Kelly), and new outside linebackers (Bullen) coaches.

I hope Giants.com does some one-on-one interviews soon.

Surprised we haven't heard from Bowen since he's a coordinator & thus higher up the food chain than a position coach.

Agreed. I could be wrong, but I could have sworn Papa did a one-on-one with Wink in both 2022 and 2023 during the offseason.
Schoen & Daboll must have their heads down preparing

I listened to the coaches interviews

a lot the past couple of years, and for me it was just a waste of time. Some, like Kafka, say pretty much nothing. Iifc, Bobby Johnson came off as a nice guy but never admitted that the OL was a piece or shit. Henderson and Patterson are nice guys, but we never heard that the DL couldn't stop the run or that Hawkins and Owens were fools gold. And of course they're not going to badmouth their own guys. But if all you're going to get is misinformation/disinformation and the company line, what's the point of listening?

There are glass half empty people and there are those where the glass is bone dry.

There are tons of issues with what you just wrote, but I'll highlight the fact that you complained about 6th and 7th round draft picks who still have a shot at starting.

And I thought I was talking about 2 guys, one of whom started most of the preseason and I believe Game 1, who the coaches raved about, and a guy who was talked up quite a bit and, I may be wrong, but if so, not by much, who never saw the field in the regular season. It wasn't me who expected anything from these guys on draft day, it was the coaching staff that made a big deal out of them.
Agreed

Looking forward to hearing from both coaches.

It could be the team want to play their cards close to the chest with the upcoming draft. OL and defence are two of the major unknowns at this stage. These guys will be heavily involved with developing schemes and the kind of playing resources we want (and don't want).

If you factor in Bricillo with Tim Kelly (TE) and Joe Thomas (RB) all being new, we could be looking at significant philosophical changes in the running game. Perhaps they don't want to tip their hand just yet.

The Giants are well positioned in the draft, perhaps they are trying to maximise value as they can legitimately can go in a number of ways. The key thing is there is a number of things we don't know and the Giants do. The Giants do know in detail Daniel Jones' injury prognosis, we don't. They know which plays they like and we don't. If, for example, the Giants don't like certain QBs, but Minnesota thinking we do will prompt them to jump ahead of us, pushing players we like down. What if instead of QB or WR, the Giants really like Joe Alt? Remember this is smoke and mirrors season.
With the lack the lack of info and our media market there are a lot of assumptions and 'group think' happening.

It could be the lack of coach access is part of planned media management after the Martindale/Wilkins/Wilkins fiasco.

It will be interesting at see what happens when the mandatory minicamps and OTAs get underway.

from the experienced coached like Andre Patterson and Jerome Henderson to see if there are any hints of differences with Shane Bowen's approach.

I think we've alreacy been told that Bowen like an agressive DL to supply most of the pass rush, so there will be a lot less blitzing, fewer 2 man DLs. Also more zone, less man coverage.
Hopefully, Bricillo

will let guys practice at their best positions, for the most part, and not play musical chairs like last year. Find your starters ASAP and let them play as a unit all preseason. And for more than 1 series per game.

Given the fact that functioning as unit is key to an offensive line, that shifting guys around for any reason other than injury is puzzling.
They probably said you know what
blueblood : 3/24/2024 7:09 pm : link
the last time we let a guy run his mouth to the media, it caused issues.. so we aint doing that this go round LOL
I honestly hope that Bowen is someone we just don't

Hear a lot about in the coming months. After last year's drama I would prefer a DC who stays in the background and just quietly does his job well. Bricillo being a Raider should offer up some fascinating soundbites.

I said all last camp/preseason that "grooming" guys for multiple roles was BS. The fact was they moved guys around to try to find someone who could start somewhere, and they couldn't. They all sucked. But all the coaches just blew smoke up our asses. That's why I think it's a waste of time listening to them

Good point about staying in the back ground. Pete above said it's important not to reveal any hints before draft.

Selfishly, I want an insight into their personalities and schemes.

The fact there has been little/no leaking outside the organisation is very encouraging (although early days).

Schoen and Daboll have done a good job in free agency so far of patching the roster, particularly with the significant turnover in coaching staff.

I completely, agree I want to know more on the X's and O's. But I am forcing myself to be more patient. We have some hints from what our new coaches did previously, but how this all melds with Daboll's plans for the season (which has to have degrees of flexibility) remains to be seen.

Maybe we’ll get something from them during OTAs?!
