ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum (Unusual) Mock Draft

M.S. : 3/26/2024 8:05 am

The former NY Jets GM has quite a twist for us: "I'm... putting myself into the general manager chair for each team with a first-rounder and making my own picks. So it's not necessarily what I'm expecting to happen but rather how I'd personally approach each Day 1 selection. This is all based off my own evaluations, preferences, philosophies and rationale."

Bottom line: Everything looks normal through the first 3 picks and then Arizona shocks the football world by drafting JJ McCarthy. And then shocks the football world a second time by trading Kyler Murray to the Vikings! As for the Giants, Malik Nabers is mocked to them for the umpteenth time:

Top 6 Picks
1. Chicago Bears (via CAR) Caleb Williams, QB, USC
2. Washington Commanders Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina
3. New England Patriots Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
4. Arizona Cardinals J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan
"...QB availability is crucial in today's NFL... and Kyler Murray hasn't played a full season since 2020. I really like McCarthy's long-term upside... I think he's a better, younger and more durable quarterback than Murray right now, and I'm not passing up this chance..."

5. Los Angeles Chargers Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame
6. New York Giants Malik Nabers, WR, LSU
"Four QBs are already off the board, so the Giants need to think about getting the offense some playmakers for Daniel Jones... You might be screaming for Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. here, but this WR1 race is really close, and I'm actually giving Nabers the edge because of his speed... He's the most dynamic prospect in the class, both as a route runner and after-the-catch playmaker..."

***********************************************************************************************************************

11. Arizona Cardinals (via mock trade with MIN) Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

Vikings get: QB Kyler Murray and No. 66 (third round)

Unusual indeed, if this scenario played out like this as unlikely

as it is, they would not pass on MHJ. Nothing against Nabers, but the Giants have speed at that position(not that Harrison Jr doesn't), but they desperately need that WR with height, that can be your possession WR, and also beat you down the field.
Interesting - they are in the same delemma as the Bears

stick with the current plan or reset with a top tier QB which you may or may not have the chance at again. If I were AZ, I would take this shot as well.
Vikings do not appear to

have cap space for Murray after a quick glance at OTC. Vikes $16 mill free, Murray $39 mill...
Harrison Jr at 9

Odunze at 14 and Bowers at 22?

Mr. T needs to put the crack pipe down.
No shot

the Vikings want Kyler.

They are in need of a rookie QB so they can pay Jefferson.

Agreed.
Cardinal fans would love that to happen

O tannenbaum...
One of the craziest mocks
GFAN52 : 3/26/2024 10:01 am : link
So far.
If this were to pass,
Gruber : 3/26/2024 10:19 am : link
the Cardinals need to trade Murray ahead of the draft, 'cos the moment they choose a QB in the first round, Murray's trade value plummets.
Vikings don't really seem like a good fit for Murray. I think if it were to happen that the Cards move on from him, then he would already have been traded by now, as a suitable trade partner would have been identified.
Absurd

Come on Mr. T
Nabers over MHJ
armstead98 : 3/26/2024 10:24 am : link
That part doesn’t seem so crazy these days. Many see Nabers as the player with the highest upside. Do you want an AJ green (MHJ) or Justin Jefferson (Nabers).

I think he developed this mock just to be different from all the other mocks recently.
One glaring reason that Mike Tannenbaum is no

longer employed by an NFL team. This is the problem with these mocks, everyone feels like they have to come up with something original, so they posit some unlikely scenarios.
Playmaker for Daniel Jones...
averagejoe : 3/26/2024 11:27 am : link
He's joking, right ?
I think Nabers could overtake MHJ as a pro
Darwinian : 3/26/2024 11:31 am : link
but they are both great prospects...
