Now that so much time has passed, seeing the Fox body mustang in person is wild. I saw one at a gas station in Kuwait a few years ago and it was crazy.
BTW, while a real original Shelby Cobra (289 or 427) would be amazing, IMHO, the replicas would likely be enough for most people.
Meaning, you get essentially all the essence of the car, performance, thrills, without the pedigree. Factory Five or RCR do a great job on these cars (and same with the Daytona Coupe, GT40 as well).
The difference between low six figures versus low to mid 7 figures.
Now replica exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini,....that's a hard no go, haha.
and with 3 kids, I really graduated to the full size SUV class. I always loved Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade body type and since my wife and I were already happy with our chevy dealership I'm in a Tahoe now and love it. I'll remain in one until my kids start driving.
My "dream" car or "toy", if you will, would be a Corvette Z06. Hopefully when my kids are all grown and married I will become the old man you see tooling around in one for fun.
What generation you thinking of? C5/C6/C7/C8?
All have rather different personalities.
C5 pretty raw....C6 a bit less raw but a bit more intimidating performance envelope.
C7 more refined, last of the front engined Vettes.
C8 an Americanized Ferrari 458 Italia with really good performance.
I love them all. We went out to Vegas for my brother's bachelor party and did a driving experience at one of the racetracks out there. Watched a seasoned driver tear up there track in a z06, it was awesome. They had to bring out huge industrial fans to cool the engine off. What a beast.
Haha, nice.
I gotta do a track event in Vegas........such great selection of cars to choose from.
They don't get enough love. I need my pickup for work, but if I had my druthers my everyday driver would be a loaded minivan. My wife would hate me.
My Tacoma spent 8 months in the shop with a frame recall I took a minivan as the free loaner life was great.
My ex refused to get a minivan even though it would have been perfect for our family. One kid, one dog, and room for alll of her crap we used to travel with. I was even fine making it my primary car.
Back in the day, I had a 1969 Olds 442 red/black convertible, hurst shifter/kragers/4 barrel.
Down at the Jersey Shore, I headed home, fell asleep and head on into a utility pole at the Collinswood circle. Totaled. Blood nose, otherwise ok. Steering wheel had the indent of my nose at the 12:00 position.
To this day that bifurcated untility pole is trussed up and still standing there!
67 Corvette Convertible big block Resto Mod.
The one I bid on was built on a C-5 platform.
Gorgeous car.
Resto Mod prices are out of control these days.
I've always liked the look of the '73 Corvette. I'd do a full resto-mod and drop in an LT3 small block engine and the Z06 suspension. But the roads around here are in such bad shape, I'd probably have to re-paint the fiberglass every year.
Until such time as I hit the Powerball, my e39 528 will have to do.
For real would like an extended cab Tacoma or Ranger, but I don’t want to overpay. I am happy with my (sigh) Camry for now. Started looking right before pandemic hit. Prices improving.
Volvo 262 C. Always wanted a silver one. Reminds me of a spy car.
67 Firebird.

I am that old guy tooling around town. I always wanted a Corvette and now that my four kids are grown and on their own I bought a 2023 2 LT a couple of weeks ago. Love that car.

That's awesome! Congrats on the purchase and enjoy it in good health.
TJ nailed it with the Corvette. I lusted after that red and white car
a year before they started putting the smog stuff on the engines, and the last year that Shelby oversaw the production of the Shelby Mustang.
I have a 68 Mustang Coupe that's doing a good job filling that void. It was also a tenth of the cost.
Honestly, if I had that car, i wouldn't drive it.. i would be too afraid of hurting it.
I had several 60's Mustangs in High School and College (mostly beaters).
I would love a 65-68 fastback with a 4spd. But I think with my age now, I'd want it to be more restomod with decent suspension, a/c and power steering brakes and better front end than stock.
A good back up is an early 70-72 camaro or transam. I had a 75 in college, always liked the earlier models in that body style.
Mopars are cool, I had a small block 72 Dart. I like the 'Cuda and the Road Runners.
Had a 72 Nova SS and 72 Skylark Convertible back in the day too
Pretty much most any 60s-70s muscle car with no emissions stuff.

Oh wow, you built it on a C-5 platform???
The thing must handle amazing!
I've always said the coolest Vettes are the C1-C3 generation, but they drive like trucks and brake like freight trains. They look and sound great, but that's about it. Overall they're worth it, but can't drive them the same way you can the newer cars.
The restomod philosophy is not for everyone, but it does allow one to experience these older cars as if they were new (especially if you weren't around when they were).

You lived the life very few were able to, lucky guy!
Agree on the no emissions stuff.
Something about a pre-emissions car with carburetors that is a portal to another universe.
You could probably put some leaded race gas in these things for more power.

Thank you Chris.
1973 LeMans with a built Chevy 454 (about 450 hp to the rear wheels)
I have a JKU Wrangler now but the 392 would be the dream. Winter weather? No problem. Summer weather? Drop the top. A true all season vehicle but with a 392 hemi under the hood with enough grunt(470hp) that every time you mash the skinny pedal, you can't help but smile. It's a shame it's costs $100k otherwise it'd already be in my driveway.
But my dream car which I owned back in 1966 was a 1965 K code Mustang fastback. I bought the Saleen because there was no way I could afford an unmolested 65 these days
Wow that looks great.
Quote:
06 Saleen Mustang super charged. 450hp. Scary fast, great handling. One of one made in 2006 with my exact color scheme and equipment
Really? What color, do you mind sharing a pic?
x2
I think that the early S197s before the 2011 refresh could be very nice with the right tweaks.
That sweet spot of the Ferrari V8 lineup, maybe the best all around ever made.
After the F355, the 360/F430 didn't have the right cohesive styling with staying power. The 458 was a game changer.
Last naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari. The 488/F8 are faster but not as exciting IMO (unless you go 488 Pista).
It's not a perfect car....some are faster and the 360/430 sound better (and could be had in manual), but no real weaknesses.
My Tacoma spent 8 months in the shop with a frame recall I took a minivan as the free loaner life was great.
Nice!

I bet it's a lot of fun to drive.
Gorgeous.
Didn't expect that in red, wow.

The dentist killer is another favorite of mine.
Such classic lines.
Probably would go black.

Torch red, charcoal interior. I’m not sure how to post a picture?

Mines an S281 but the S197’s are sweet also

My friend got one last year in blue. The car is stupid fast, faster than any Porsche I’ve been in
Can vouch, sweet ride!

I am a truck guy, though. Fond of the King Ranch.
I'm also a motorcycle guy. I'm happy with my Heritage, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to a CVO Road Glide if money was no option.

What kind of engine are you running?
The new one is incredible. Can control the character of the car through the steering wheel controls.
And somehow they keep making the same style look fresh after 60 years. The huge wing works in every sense of the word.
I saw one in SLC recently and it was pretty cool looking, better in real life than photos.
