NFT: What's your dream car/truck/vehicle?

Jim in Forest Hills : 3/26/2024 1:38 pm
If you had an opportunity to get 1 vehicle at no cost, what would it be? Motorcyle? Boat? Porsche?

Tell us why that vehicle if you please. Or do you already have it?

That sweet spot of the Ferrari V8 lineup, maybe the best all around ever made.

After the F355, the 360/F430 didn't have the right cohesive styling with staying power. The 458 was a game changer.

Last naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari. The 488/F8 are faster but not as exciting IMO (unless you go 488 Pista).

It's not a perfect car....some are faster and the 360/430 sound better (and could be had in manual), but no real weaknesses.

Now that so much time has passed, seeing the Fox body mustang in person is wild. I saw one at a gas station in Kuwait a few years ago and it was crazy.

I bet it's a lot of fun to drive.

BTW, while a real original Shelby Cobra (289 or 427) would be amazing, IMHO, the replicas would likely be enough for most people.

Meaning, you get essentially all the essence of the car, performance, thrills, without the pedigree. Factory Five or RCR do a great job on these cars (and same with the Daytona Coupe, GT40 as well).

The difference between low six figures versus low to mid 7 figures.

Now replica exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini,....that's a hard no go, haha.

What generation you thinking of? C5/C6/C7/C8?

All have rather different personalities.

C5 pretty raw....C6 a bit less raw but a bit more intimidating performance envelope.

C7 more refined, last of the front engined Vettes.

C8 an Americanized Ferrari 458 Italia with really good performance.

I love them all. We went out to Vegas for my brother's bachelor party and did a driving experience at one of the racetracks out there. Watched a seasoned driver tear up there track in a z06, it was awesome. They had to bring out huge industrial fans to cool the engine off. What a beast.

Haha, nice.

I gotta do a track event in Vegas........such great selection of cars to choose from.

Back in the day, I had a 1969 Olds 442 red/black convertible, hurst shifter/kragers/4 barrel.

Down at the Jersey Shore, I headed home, fell asleep and head on into a utility pole at the Collinswood circle. Totaled. Blood nose, otherwise ok. Steering wheel had the indent of my nose at the 12:00 position.

To this day that bifurcated untility pole is trussed up and still standing there!

I've always liked the look of the '73 Corvette. I'd do a full resto-mod and drop in an LT3 small block engine and the Z06 suspension. But the roads around here are in such bad shape, I'd probably have to re-paint the fiberglass every year.

Until such time as I hit the Powerball, my e39 528 will have to do.

I had several 60's Mustangs in High School and College (mostly beaters).

I would love a 65-68 fastback with a 4spd. But I think with my age now, I'd want it to be more restomod with decent suspension, a/c and power steering brakes and better front end than stock.

A good back up is an early 70-72 camaro or transam. I had a 75 in college, always liked the earlier models in that body style.

Mopars are cool, I had a small block 72 Dart. I like the 'Cuda and the Road Runners.

Had a 72 Nova SS and 72 Skylark Convertible back in the day too

Pretty much most any 60s-70s muscle car with no emissions stuff.

Oh wow, you built it on a C-5 platform???

The thing must handle amazing!

I've always said the coolest Vettes are the C1-C3 generation, but they drive like trucks and brake like freight trains. They look and sound great, but that's about it. Overall they're worth it, but can't drive them the same way you can the newer cars.

The restomod philosophy is not for everyone, but it does allow one to experience these older cars as if they were new (especially if you weren't around when they were).

What kind of engine are you running?

The new one is incredible. Can control the character of the car through the steering wheel controls.

And somehow they keep making the same style look fresh after 60 years. The huge wing works in every sense of the word.

You lived the life very few were able to, lucky guy!

Agree on the no emissions stuff.

Something about a pre-emissions car with carburetors that is a portal to another universe.

You could probably put some leaded race gas in these things for more power.
