Did you all catch it? What did you think?
Unbelievable.

Wife and I tried to watch the other night. Didn't finish it. It was like Rain Man meets Boogie Nights.
I love all Yorgos films.

This one reminded alot of Dogtooth.

I made the mistake of starting to watch it on Hulu while my young kids were home. Had to turn it off and watch it when they were sleeping.
We watched it last week.

Really liked it. Emma Stone was excellent. The supporting cast was decent. Interesting movie.
I wasn't crazy about it

Too weird for me. My wife liked it though.
It seems like you either love it or hate it.
I watched it because of the thread Christian started here

And was wowed. A great film on multiple levels. Even if you don’t like the story (I liked it a lot) the costume and set designs were highly original works of art.

The denouement was powerful.
I loved it.

I think it's the best movie made in a while. Great acting and visuals, interesting theme.
Great movie

..
+1 for us, too

Just phenomenal and out there and risky. Definitely would be an awkward watch with parents or kids though.

Emma deserved the Oscar.

Best movie of the year without a doubt for me.
Is it just me or did I see it as such
Jim in Forest Hills : 3/28/2024 3:16 pm : link
an innovative juxtaposition to Barbie?
Watched it and didn’t care for it.
Crispino : 3/28/2024 4:28 pm : link
I thought Willem DaFoe was good. Emma Stone was okay, and Ruffalo was mediocre at best. Quirky is often good for me, but this was a mess, IMO. Interesting visually, but just didn’t grab me.
Haven’t seen it yet,
Section331 : 3/28/2024 4:49 pm : link
but it’s queued up for this weekend.

Ha! Why is that? (:
(Don't recall so much explicit genitalia, male too, in a non 'porn' film, ever)

to you, christian, as you initiated thread on the film pre-Oscars, when we had not yet seen.
Musing here because it hasn't settled yet; I often felt uncomfortable watching. Does that signify that it worked?
As oghwga said, risky business !
Premise was disquieting, DaFoe harkens back to a Gene Wilder film, part Sci Fi, part biotech, part me too. I share a bit of Crispino's take. Emma Stone's range in her role was crazy impressive: her production, film's in-your-face take, mcp's? But my wife was neutral on it so political points didn't hit a mark (a main plaint was that creative sets were knockoffs of Wes Anderson--I didn't quite see that). She also thought actress in "Killers of the Flower Moon" should have garnered Best Actress. I don't know if Ruffalo was mediocre but, given his past roles, seemed like a square peg in a round hole, plastic, inauthentic, which is what his character was all about, so there's that.

Five years on I have no idea what I will think of it. I'm not sure Academy did either except for the triumphant nod to Stone
I was a fan,

I feel like it just got more interesting as it went on. Emma Stone was outstanding

Oh man, that was the funniest line I've heard yet. Can't stop laughing.
Personally, I was in awe of the movie throughout and I believe it will become a classic for years to come, like The Wizard of Oz, and maybe a little bit more like Clockwork Orange.
I'm generally pretty open minded
Mike in Marin : 3/30/2024 12:38 pm : link
about artsy films, but I found it to be a tiring soft-porn Frankenstein movie with a boring Frankenstein monster.
Wild film.

I loved it. Emma Stone truly deserved that Oscar. (I thought Lily Gladstone should’ve won before I saw Poor Things.)

I’ve seen half of the movies nominated for Best Picture. I’d rank them…

1 - Oppenheimer
2 - Poor Things
3 - The Holdovers
4 - American Fiction
.
.
.
Dead Last by a Mile - Killers of the Flower Moon
