Vargas ever come back? I missed the weekend box scores.
Vargas is on the IL (again, with most things Mets minor league injuries, we don't get much information, not even clear what part of his body is injured, he's eligible to come off the IL on the 26th so I guess we'll see if we see him back in the lineup this weekend.
RE: I'm not sure what the workload has to do with it
If anything it's an argument to call him up now right? Would you rather those limited innings be at AAA or for the Mets where he can actually help? The AAA innings count toward the limit anyway.
Sure, we can just defer to Stearns but then that would shut down all discussion here.
Even if he's not a "finished product" surely he can keep on developing at the MLB level? Don't most SPs have to do that anyway? Seems like it's just delaying the inevitable keeping him at AAA. An organization's best coaches are on the MLB team, so I find it a stretch to suggest that somehow he's going to get worse coaching with the Mets and working directly with Hefner.
BTW, Houser's XFIP is 5.95 and he's striking out less than 5.6 per 9 and his BB/9 is over 6. Awful. The wild card race is going to be extremely tight and that's not gonna cut it. I'm pretty confident Scott would be better right now.
Anyways, Dan you're a great Mets poster on this site and I'm grateful for all you do here throughout the years. Please please don't take these posts as me coming at you, it's just airing my thoughts and venting a bit. I do see where you're coming from on the other side (posting the Hefner quotes) even if I don't agree. I'll let you have the last word on this if you want. LGM.
I don't take it personally even 1%. It's just my opinion and you have yours. I think he'll be up very soon.

Rumors 🔥🔥🔥Yankees top 2028 signing Angel Ozuna is actually 2 yrs older, and should be signing in the 2026 class instead of 2028 . Ozuna’s bonus amount was rumored to be in the $6M range
(ended up agreeing to a deal with the Twins instead).
the Marlins called up Eury Perez after 190 innings (at most - some of those minors innings came after his ML debut)
the Braves called up AJ Smith-Shawver after 146 innings.
The Mets don't seem close to calling up Scott after 170 minor league innings plus 120 college innings.
Neither Eury or Smith-Shawver had any college innings - which is why age is relevant. those two were 20 years old when they made their major league debuts.
Scott being 24 is relevant because he spent 3 years in college.
The Mets just don't think he's ready and/or they have a different organizational philosophy.
And I'm not comparing Scott to Eury Perez or Smith-Shawver for that matter - just using innings thrown as a metric for how or when other teams advance pitchers.

Not sure it's accurate they aren't "close" unless you think a month or so from now isn't close. Eury Perez was also sent back down last season to help curb his innings. He was called up in May, sent down in July and then came back in August. May is in a few days, and I don't think the Mets really plan on sending Scott down unless his performance calls for it.
also came up in late July because they had a need in the rotation, made 5 starts and is now back in AAA to open 2024. If the Mets have a need in July, they may well "rush" up a guy like Tidwell. The Mets likely hope to call up Scott and have him be with the big club the rest of the way and beyond.
I’m guess is Scott joins the Mets in 3-4weeks, joins the rotation, reasonable pitch limits, occasional extra days or even skipped starts and transitions later in the season to the bullpen vs. shutting him down. 120-130 innings. Would allow him a “full” workload for 2025. Hamel and Tidwell likely won’t have any caps this season worth worrying about. Scott the only one with a real “concern”.

Not confirmed but this kid may have been 4! Years older
Colin Houck 2 walks and a single. It'ss been a struggle early on for Houck, one reason for some optimism is he now has 12 walks over 55 ab's (obviously the 21 k's) would be the counter to that
Not sure if this is good or bad? Seems like the discipline to lay off bad pitches is a good thing and not easily taught/developed. He also seems to have some legit raw power, another thing that really can't be taught.

I'm probably missing something though.
32% k rate and slugging .339 so for right now it’s not a good thing. If he can start driving the ball while also walking then it’s obviously a good thing. He has 1 HR, 4 2B, 24 k’s over 56 AB’s
Only slugging .333 on the road (9 games) so it’s also not a case of “well, it’s hard for power hitters in Brooklyn). He’s still very young. But for whatever the reason post trade deadline both he and Acuna have seen their production fall off.
Vargas eligible to come off of the IL tomorrow. We’ll see if he does. Whatever his injury is has limited him to only 2 games played this season. For many, he was one to watch for this season so hopefully he’s back soon.
-No word on Lavender’s injury or what is ailing Jett Williams

Yeah that's not good. I remember seeing some clips of him hitting some long HR's last year (I think in Brooklyn?) He seemed to have some real pop in his bat.
Raw power rivals basically every hitter they have in the system outside of *maybe* McLean. His in-game power for whatever the reason hasn’t shown up (yet at least) on a consistent basis.

What's Clifford's most likely MLB comp? Are we looking at an Lucas Duda or Adam Dunn type player if he develops well?

Verlander can throw 139.2 innings before triggering his vested option. He's thrown 10.1 innings in 2024, please throw only 129.1 the rest of the way! LGM
this is why its worth rolling the dice on talent. not always but dont avoid talent just because the numbers arent perfect (pcas obviously far from perfect).
Alex Ramirez hitting the way he has so far is a great development. He's basically the only position prospect in the upper minors doing well so far. Parada with scary bad numbers.

Shintaro Fujinami threw 29 pitches tonight for Triple-A Syracuse, only 11 went for strikes.
He walked 4 and allowed 6 runs. ERA is now at 18.56 for the season.

Yeah I said upper minors so only meant AAA and AA. Those 2 are bringing up the ranks in High A and Low A for sure.
Not sure it matters or not but Mayer tweeted that Binghamton is being bought by a company that owns other minor league teams. Not sure which ones.
Also Jesus Luzardo with elbow discomfort now for Miami. Yikes.
Stuart and Tong with great starts!
Pitching has been unreal.
