And Tong make BA’s hot sheet Link - ( New Window )
The last time I remember seeing stat lines like Tong's in the Mets minor leagues were when Jack Leathersich was pitching. Although Tong is doing it over longer outings.

Was Leathersich before or after Akeel Morris? That guy had video game numbers. I remember one SSS in A or A+ ball he averaged almost 15 SO/9.
talking to a prospect writer and he projects both Tong and Ziegler as big league relievers. Also still believes Hamel "more likely than not" ends up in the BP.

Morris was drafted the year prior although his numbers weren't quite at Leathersich's level. Morris was also the youngest guy on the list for a number of years it seemed because we were constantly cheaping out with college relievers.
comparing the two, but the SP with the gaudiest K #'s despite not "super elite" stuff that comes to mind is Yusmeiro Petit. Stuck out *200* over 139 innings as a 19 year old despite an average or worse FB.

Petit actually had a decent major league career too. best out of the three we mentioned at least.

14 seasons! Mostly as a RP but that's impressive. Even Deolis Guerra 136 big league games pitched. The Mets took a step back in terms of latin american scouting but for a while they really did a strong job. They have some DSL kids to monitor, but too early to get too excited.
should have been up until JDM is ready. That was a (so far) rare misstep by Stearns. Not looking to rile up his dad (Eric) but I just get the feeling they don't see him as part of their future core (rightly or wrongly).

That I believe we traded to Miami but for the life of me I cannot who they were traded for (thought it was for a starting pitcher in one of Omar’s last years). The one reliever I believe at one point had a k/9 over 20 which was the craziest I have ever seen. Ironically I don’t believe he ever became much of anything but the other one did.
clue what Ziegler's injury is but it's getting to the point it's getting harder and harder seeing him remain a SPer. He's 21.5 with 53.2 career innings over 3 seasons.
Missed this! @BaseballAmerica with some love for Jesus Baez. "plus exit velocities" and "pristine swinging strike rates" "big arrow up" for Mr. Baez. Many of us (myself included) had him on our 2024 breakout lists. So far so good.
Castro was born in NY, NY and signed with @mets 1/2021. Struggled 2021+2022 and missed 2023 (presumably injured but never actually placed on the IL) #Mets

Back to back fun pitching days for @met #Mets .
it's funny - we went in the year hyped about jett/acuna/gilbert and now it's non-stop pitching excitement. that's not a negative commentary on the first 3 either, it's a positive commentary on the system.
With a subtle shot at Buck. Never thought I’d see the day lol
Have to say Mendoza is beginning to grow on me. Actually answers questions, which is refreshing after last year. Admitted to being surprised that Pirates pulled Jones, didn't hide his happiness (as long as no injury, he made a point of saying). Little thing but rare/noteworthy.
For Morabito and Baez. I was a little nervy about Morabito last year since he started in EST but he's been really good since moving to full season.
Dan any idea on Wilkin Ramos stuff? Would be nice to get some more pen arms on the radar. 23 so maybe a tad old for AA but good numbers last year and a good start so far.
I was listening to the Syracuse game on the Internet Radio while doing some stuff. Scott's line doesn't do justice to his evening.
Scott 5.1 innings 3 hits 2 runs 2 walks 7 k’s
In the first inning, he gave up 2 HR's and a Double. And then NOTHING the rest of the way. Tis was his longest AAA outing. Something wasn't working for him early, he made adjustments. The kid is learning.

i asked TJ about it because the power is meh and a lot of the statline is boosted by a 24% walk rate and a 364 babip.

Don't have much AA data, but Parada is running a very high 38.9 Whiff%, which is a tad bit concerning.
He's young for the level, but the hot start is definitely encouraging, just some red flags in the contact department
wish we had some exit velocity on him, as a bat first player contact quality is going to be his ultimate carry tool. the topline is encouraging but only 1 XBH. only 7 games though tbf.

Wilkin Ramos 100% has big league stuff. FB up to 98 (sits 93-95 generally), rubber armed, good slider, command comes and goes (0 walks so far in 3 appearances) but when he loses it it completely loses it. Hes absolutely a guy who could be big league help (if he throws strikes) same could be said of Orze. I’m pretty surprised how much Orze has struggled. I expected him to be a viable member of the Mets bullpen by this time. Has overcome multiple bouts with cancer, stuff is legit, splitter is nasty, just hasn’t been able to throw enough strikes to this point
Hopefully, by mid-season some of the @stluciemets hitters are rocking to the point they are promoted to help @BKCyclones lineup. Looking at Morabito, Baez, Hernandez in particular. Cyclones lineup is pretty horrendous right now

Victor Castaneda 8.31 era/3.10 FIP. Wow (yes, only 4.1 innings). Pitched well in winter ball, @fangraphs predicted he'd see some time with the 2024 @mets oddly, he's currently in A+ despite almost 200 upper minors innings, have to figure he's promoted sooner vs. later
SRF has been promoted to @SyracuseMets after striking out the side during his one inning of work for @BKCyclones. As noted, SRF is out of minor league options

@AnthonyDiComo
The Mets are "very optimistic" that Brett Baty (tight left hamstring) will avoid the IL. He came in today feeling better than last night. "I think it just scared me," Baty said, in part because he's hurt that hamstring before.
Baty should be back in the lineup within a few days.
About a month ago @AnthonyDiComo

Seems like he is being more patient. Helping limit chases and making more contact when he swings.

Ugh. Calvin Ziegler placed on the 7-day IR by @BKCyclones
. I had a feeling the 2 inning stint wasn't simply a case of pitches (43)
Max Kranick's rehab assignment has been moved to @RumblePoniesBB
and David Griffin also joining @RumblePoniesBB
from @SyracuseMets
Jason Vargas for Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom
Andy Pages called up today as well
-Eric Orze shockingly leads all Syracuse Mets in stuff+

Saul Garcia also to the IL. Very interesting arm, again hopefully nothing major.
Marco Vargas not on the IL but has only appeared in 2 games

Morabito 3/3 up to .333. Houck 0/4 down to .139.
Looks like it probably was a piggyback but they didn't want him to come in the middle of inning and Kranick hit his limit.
Anyhow he's at 9 Ks through 4.
