How many millions of career earnings did Lugo lose due to the Mets incorrectly using him as a reliever? How many WAR did it cost the Mets?
Think of the 2019 Mets who used Lugo out of the pen but let guys like Flexen, Gsellmen, Vargas, Corey Oswalt, etc. That team went 46-26 in the second half and barely missed the playoffs. Another 50-60 innings from Lugo (subbing for the below replacement value spot starters they often used in games) could've made the difference between a playoff berth or not. That Mets team would've been dangerous in the playoffs with prime Degrom (as well as Wheeler, Stroman and Lugo) in the rotation.

It sure does appear whoever decided Lugo "couldn't/shouldn't" start was badly mistaken. Reportedly, as many as 6 teams made Lugo an offer to start last season which means at least 6 other teams thought it was worth exploring.
kind of surprised this hasnt happened to him more. players should and probably do know what they are getting into with him, but when his hardball tactics backfire im surprised more arent pissed enough to move on.
