NFT: Gardening question

I have a bed of pachysandra in an area I would like to plant a small cherry tree. Is this feasible or would it be problematic? I assume I would have to dig up the pachysandra in the spot I want to plant the tree and let it grow back around it? Or try to keep it separate by mulching the area around the base of the tree.

Curious of anyone's thoughts on this and if its a bad idea.
Take a photo of the area and go to your local Nursery

Is the area

sunny enough ? Pachysandra generally prefers shade, a cherry tree prefers full sun. Also, most trees don't like plants growing around their trunk, so tear it out and leave space around the trunk. Don't do the big "volcano" mulch either, it just invites insects and disease....
I'm assuming an ornamental cherry

tree? As the above poster stated, you don't want anything next to the trunk. If going with mulch, keep it about a foot from the trunk, in a donut shape, rather than the volcano shape often seen.

In addition to regular insects, your cherry tree could attract peach tree borer, which will kill a young tree. When my trees were young, each year in the fall, I would gently dig with gloved hands, down about 2 inches into the soil, around the trunk, looking for borer damage.
