Breer's mailbag: we land Harrison Jr. @ 6.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/12/2024 7:04 pm
Apologies if posted, but I was just reading his mailbag from earlier & this week-which I'll link below-& he has us remaining @ 6 and taking Marvin.

"From Shedrick Carter (@shedrickcarter2): What is your best guess for the top 10 today?

Shedrick, we’ll do a mock soon, I promise. But I think the Vikings come up for McCarthy at No. 4. And if I’m guessing from there, Alt to the Chargers at No. 5, Harrison to the Giants at No. 6, Olu Fashanu to the Titans at No. 7, Dallas Turner to the Falcons at No. 8, maybe Malik Nabers at No. 9 to the Bears and JC Latham to the Jets at No. 10. But that’s just spitballing."

I'm guessing he has Caleb, Daniels, & Drake going in the top 3 in some order. A Vikes trade up seems all but inevitable & I think there's a decent to good shot LAC takes Alt, knowing how Harbaugh love to build through the trenches. It isn't that outrageous of a thought that Harrison Jr. could be there at six. I guess he also has Rome falling out of the top ten.

he’s arguably the best player in the draft. Whether it’s MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze the next question is how much do they value Penix and Nix? Do they like either of them enough to make a deal to get back into the first? We’ll find out in less than two weeks

We’ve had a few that could have been if it weren’t for injuries given the pace they were on (eg. Nicks, Cruz).

I'm fine with any of the top 3 guys so I would absolutely listen to offers.
That would be great!

Are you Dave Gettleman?
I don't think a Vikings trade up is inevitable
UberAlias : 4/12/2024 7:33 pm : link
Maybe probably, but not certain. The notion is founded on their acquiring the additional 1, but the news that Texans initiated calls the conclusion into question. They have flexibility, but that doesn't mean they unlimited determination. Az may demand too much for a move that risks their losing one of the elite wideouts and already has a lot of picks. They may prefer to use it on an elite prospect over acquiring more.

He won't be a HOFer with the QBs for the Giants who will be trying to throw him the ball.

Aside from Eli, I don't think I've ever been as excited for a draft pick as I was when Nicks was picked in 2009. Nicks was an absolute monster and I knew he would be.

I completely agree. I don't think they trade up.

Nicks was a destroyer
i have to say i have spent very little time considering harrison
Eric on Li : 4/12/2024 7:49 pm : link
because it seemed unrealistic, dont go back and refresh yourself on his highlights until after the draft if the nyg somehow get him. he is such a stud. i had almost totally forgotten the catch he made while getting tackled vs michigan. he is such a monster.

for Herbert. I don't see him getting past the Chargers.

Yes, if that report is true, the assumption that the Vikings will trade up could be wrong.

i tend to agree with this since he knows exactly how good he is from playing against him.

and if not then he'd probably take a big trade down for him.

i wont believe he gets to 6 until he gets to 6.
It would be fun to get MHJ
Darwinian : 4/12/2024 8:00 pm : link
Caleb Williams and Nabers to Chicago would be an unbelievable, franchise-altering course.
Remember this about the Vikings
Sean : 4/12/2024 8:03 pm : link
They don't own their 2025 second round pick. They don't own a 2024 second round pick. They don't own a 2024 third round pick.

If they trade up, they'll have no pick again until the fourth round in 2024 and third round in 2025. They're doing this for JJ McCarthy. Really?

christian : 4/12/2024 8:03 pm : link
All of the Nabers and Odunze hype in the press has kind of kept MHJr out of the spotlight. But he's probably the best football player pound-for-pound in the draft. Maybe the last several drafts.

Does Lock to Harrison get you excited?

christian : 4/12/2024 8:08 pm : link
I remember watching Lock against the Texans in a bar in Austin around Christmas, and thinking maybe?

But mostly Drew Lock doesn't know what to do on a football field.

Nicks still breaks my heart. I really think he was destined for a gold jacket. Ironically enough, I think Nicks coulda been to Eli what Harrison Sr. was for Peyton. Fuckin Aqib Talib man.

Also, I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t go CW - Maye/Daniels - Daniels/Maye - MHJ -Nabers. And if I was a betting man, I’d put money on Washington surprising BBI and taking Maye, taking a Vikings trade up off the table. People read too many mock drafts that are made for clicks; Nabers and Odunze are rising, that doesn’t mean MHJ is falling. He’s still the best WR prospect since Megatron, and still the best prospect in this draft. I think people are getting a little wild with saying he falls to 6.

It's a bit of a stretch, but Frank Gifford was a RB and Flanker. Could you imagine if Romo called anyone a flanker on a broadcast? He'd be drug tested on the spot!
Houston
AcidTest : 4/12/2024 9:05 pm : link
initiating the trade talks with Minnesota does somewhat weaken the argument that the Vikings made the trade to try and then trade up into the top five. But the Vikings still made the trade. My guess is that they traded with Houston to then try and trade into the top five on day one, but if that isn't possible are fine picking at #11 and #23. There were rumors they would take Penix at #11 as a backup plan if they can't trade into the top five, presumably for Maye.

I agree that the Chargers are likely to take MHJ at five, but sure, I would take him at six.
Maybe if all three receivers are there at six you trad down a few

Spots and still get one of them and pick up another pick.

Would Falcons or TN want to move up? Possible.

Maybe Giants gain a third rounder.

Oh I get it man. I usually do a good 15 minutes of Wheels on the Bus, then 15 minutes of the Elmo Slide.
If Harrison put up big numbers with Kyle McCord,
BleedBlue46 : 4/12/2024 10:57 pm : link
Then I think he could put up numbers with Jones/Lock. My dream first two picks are still Odunze with a tradeup for Penix right now though.

Jones to Harrison does if he is healthy.

Chicago and Arizona.

Caleb and Nabers my favorite QB and WR in this draft (along with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen) would make the Bears must see TV.

Arizona passing on MHJ and then being in position at 11 to take Odunze, plus pick #23 and presumably more draft capital in 2025 (possibly another #1). Who would not take that deal?
