Metnut/Fish/Mike from Ohio: I hope you guys found out you had no butter after you toasted your bagels this morning. Not that you guys should be eating carbs...
Missing Dobson really hurt on the power play and that was the difference today IMO.
I think Carolina is the cup favorite so there’s going to be a hard first round matchup for NYI if the chalk holds.
Maybe gambling sites, but moneypuck has NYR as cup favorites by a lot. NYR odds are almost 30% to make it to the SCF, 14.3% to win the cup. In the past two weeks they have surged, I expect the oddsmakers to follow as the money does.
CAR is second.
I made a prop bet on the NYR when their odds were +1500
instead of going through the motions like the previous two games.
Still, a lot of their shots were from long range and nobody in front to get the rebounds. Thank goodness for Panarin!
Whatever they traded for Roslovic was too much. He's done next to nothing. I would put Chytl in his place during the playoffs if he is able, but I wouldn't rush him.
I'm worried about Trouba. Too many giveaways. Miller? I wouldn't cry if they traded him during the summer. I wonder if they've contemplated converting him to a winger. Nah!
Don't know if Othmann is ready, but I think he gets a legitimate shot next season.
Shesty needs to play like he did today in the playoffs. If he does, they can do a lot of damage.
Trouba was the Rangers best D today even with the Schneider goal, but somehow fans find a way to complain about him.
Trouba made a play in the 3rd period when the Rangers were down a goal, plastering the NYI player behind the net (Fasching I believe) forcing a turnover and starting a breakout no other NYR D can make. He has warts, he does turn the puck over and shoots too much with no net front presence, but he didn't today.
And they got a desperately needed point from the highest point holding team on their home ice. I’ll take it. Wish that disallowed goal held but oh well.
Really want to see the Rangers in round 1 if the Isles take care of business vs the Devils (I’ll be there) and the Cunty Yinz. Want no part of Carolina.
I'm watching. Scoreless though 6 min in the 1st. BC player missed an empty net. It's on ESPN for me. One of the ESPN channels. I think the game is streamed free though.

nifty stickhandling through the slot by Perreault but couldn't get much on a shovel of the puck toward the keeper surrounded by three...don't get me wrong but a tiny bit of Conner Bedard in him...Gauthier having a nice period...announcing crew seems pro Denver

Then you weren't watching. He gave the puck away more than a few times.

It's literally a stat. giveaways. He had 0.
Gus had 1, Schneider had 3 for the D, none for Trouba.
What’s you order of preference for first round playoff opponent between isles, Philly, Pitt, wash, wings
1 Philly
2 wash
3 Detroit
4 Pitt
5 isles
6 Tampa
But I also believe there are no easy playoff series, especially in the first round. Get the two points Monday night to avoid playing the isles first round and then rest up ready to rock.
glad they won and didn't brawl. don't need suspensions with the
Rempe again shows he can play. That line had some really good shifts to keep the Isles pinned. The one brain fart was the Vesey giveaway that lead to a goal.
The Trouba crabbing here is just plain stupid.
Agree that Jones has surpassed Gustafsson and should play. Gus has been a good player but Jones has really matured.
Miller does seem to have his days where his head is just somewhere else. He's a tremendous talent though.
Rangers really need to pick up the intensity for the SCP
Our one Achilles heel going into the playoffs is our 5v5 play. It has been average to say the least all season.
Jones andTrouba should be paired together.
Jones has ability to move the puck out of our defensive zone while Trouba’s physicality protects Jones.
They better be prepared from the first drop of the puck to play intense and physical.

Agree all, Rick (and you've been all in on Jones), with 2 caveats:
saying 5 on 5 is our "one" Achilles heel is a euphemism; instead, it's all encompassing. As pj noted a couple of weeks ago when we were handicapping NYR's SCP prospects, he allowed as how a team fares 5 on 5 play in SCP is usually decisive. This came in reply, broadly speaking iirc, my repetitive critiques of first line and #20's play 5 on 5.
In that discussion I argued that it's a significant factor when your 'first' line is not contributing its share, it's an imbalance. I don't think anyone would argue at this point that ## 20 93 96 are NYR's first line. Some very likeable and knowledgeable 'lurkers' (: lol came out with +/- figures on Kreider and Zib showing them well in the + column.
I can't get any of the stats sites to break down the team's +/- figures since end of February--maybe pj can--
BUT here's a hint: Roslovic is - 11, which should be a clue as to how his line as a whole is performing.
and Carolina and Boston win out, all three teams are at 113 points I think. Do the Rangers have the tie breakers over both of them?
The first tiebreaker is Regulation Wins. The Canes would finish in the top spot in your scenario (Canes already have 43 RW and the Rangers have 42). Boston only has 36 RW.
Panarin has been resolute in refusing to discuss last year’s playoffs in which a tenuous relationship with head coach Gerard Gallant deteriorated. We’ve been told that the winger was aired out by the coach in front of the team in an incident that did not go over well with anyone. Panarin has also said that he does not want to talk about what’s coming up next week.
in the fall before the season with Panarin where he said (paraphrasing) he never took anything harder in his life than he did the playoff performance last year and he dedicated his off-season mental and physical training to prepare to make sure it doesn't happen again. He said it ate away at him all off-season.
You read shit like this from players all the time, and very often it's just players dropping sound bites or saying what people want to hear, but I feel like he more than backed it up with his play this regular season. Rarely did I see him "floating" or over passing or skating himself out of a play.
he seemed laser focused from day 1.
We will see if that carries over to the playoffs. If it does he can be the difference maker to winning the cup, not many people have a shot like his and can skate/stick handle like him - but can also pass. His linemates highlight each others skills well too. Good combination for success.
We don't control our destiny without getting 2 points.
And now we do!

Agree with this. I would not be disappointed to avoid Carolina in the first round (still assuming we get in).
Win the final game for Jacques Martin
I watched the Minnesota game ten times, apologized, and was allowed back in.
Still, a lot of their shots were from long range and nobody in front to get the rebounds. Thank goodness for Panarin!

Last time I did this, the Giants lost the Panthers 23-0 at home.
I thought they were "well matched" against Carolina but nope.
As a Yankee fan, the revenge that was best was beating that fucking STUPID LA/Anaheim Angels team in 2009. Satisfying.

No, they would lose the tiebreaker to CAR. They have clinched the tiebreaker vs BOS no matter what, if the two wind up tied in pts.
tiebreakers are:
RW
ROW
W
h2h
goal differential
if the NYR get 1 point Monday they would have
113 pts 42 RW and 50 ROWs
If CAR wins out they would have
113 pts 45 RW and 51 ROWs
The first tiebreaker is Regulation Wins. The Canes would finish in the top spot in your scenario (Canes already have 43 RW and the Rangers have 42). Boston only has 36 RW.

Not to be forgotten on his phenomenal game tying goal, Trockeck with the clean FO win, Bread with the laser finish
