Tom Curran on what it would take for Pats to trade out of 3.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/13/2024 6:34 pm
This article is a few days old, but I gotta imagine the general premise holds.

"The mindset in Foxboro is the package has to be bigger than what San Francisco put together in 2021 to go up from No. 12 to No. 3 in its trade with Miami. In that deal, the 49ers sent No. 12, a 2022 third-rounder and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 to Miami for the privilege of selecting Trey Lance."

Curran is-from all I've ever gathered-pretty plugged in. He might not be Mike Reiss, in that Mike might as well be a Kraft son, Haha.

& yes, I get the whole 'It's lying season!' caveat. I just thought I'd share.
No thanks

49ers are lucky as hell they drafted Purdy or that trade would have made them a perennial .500 team.

Three firsts is a lot to give up for the third QB taken in the draft.
It seems to me
TrueBlue56 : 4/13/2024 6:42 pm : link
Like he is talking about the possibility of the vikings as a trade partner. That would be comparable, but 6 to 3 is a different ask. I think it is all about what prospects are on the board and the package offered.

Like 6th overall, 3rd rd and 1st in 2025 would do it, but who knows.

If that's the price for a QB Joe & Dabs think can be elite for the next decade plus, sign me up without any hesitation.
Hopefully Schabs is much smarter than this.
Spider56 : 4/13/2024 7:02 pm : link
Maye may not even be worth #6, let alone draft capital to go to 3. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
All these reports are for Vikings trade, so funny.
BleedBlue46 : 4/13/2024 7:30 pm : link
Only one article on the trade packages predicted for us to go to 3. Would be something like pick 6, 47 and 2025 1st.

The Giants have a top tier qb, they have way too many holes to fill to even think about a qb!
I would either draft McCarthy at 6
Chris684 : 4/13/2024 8:06 pm : link
Or I guess the WR and punt on QB. That’s if the price is too high, of course.

Yes, the current QB situation sucks but you can’t shop hungry. I’d take the blue chip WR and continue to build out a good roster.

If there is a guy like Pratt, Rattler, or Milton they like later on, by all means do it. But you can’t let one bad mistake turn into multiple bad mistakes.

Is your top tier defined as all the QBs of all 32 teams? :)

Are they not going to be hungry when they shop next year?

Daniel Jones - probably gone
Lock - expiring contract
DeVito - expiring contract
What on earth are some of you guys talking about??
DefenseWins : 4/13/2024 8:18 pm : link
I am seeing comments on this thread and others where some here do not want to give up too much to get the QB we want.

Sure, lets follow some of the advice I am seeing here that we should just draft a WR. Then, nothing but complaints this September about how bad our QB play is and we cannot get the ball to our new WR.

The QB is the most important position on the field.

If we end up with the 10th pick next year, then getting our QB will cost even more.

You can get a QB at 6 without giving anything else away. And In all probability, he’ll be just as good as the one some want to take a mortgage on.

If I was Schoen I would go Maye/JJM at 6 or trade down/WR if they aren't there and hope Penix slid to the end of rd1 for tradeup.

And when they suck and BD is fired people will act surprised. They may suck with a new QB too but if there's progress then at least they can sell the arrow pointing up. Jones and a new wr and the arrow stays pointing straight down

You might be right, but that exact sentiment would have been shared by many BBIers if the Giants were rumored to want Josh Allen or Mahomes in their respective drafts. We really don’t know what these guys might become.

Im not sure Lock is top tier, but maybe
What is amazing to me is that
mfjmfj : 4/14/2024 6:58 am : link
San Fran has made two major screw ups on QB in the last few years (Garrapolo and Lance) and yet are one of the best teams in the league.
That type of deal
56goat : 4/14/2024 7:12 am : link
is DOA, even for me, and I really think we need to get a QB. Work your magic JS!
This is an excellent point. They obviously lucked out with Purdy but
Spider56 : 4/14/2024 7:15 am : link
the 2 mistakes they made would have been crushing for most other franchises.
If the Pats Love QB-3 or QB-4...
Jim in Tampa : 4/14/2024 8:40 am : link
they aren't going to trade out at any price.

If for some reason they don't have that high a value on any of the remaining QBs, then they will be open to trading down and the price (at least for the Giants) will be lower than what SF paid.

(Don't forget SF was trading up from pick 12, not pick 6.)

Scary thought: maybe when you consider how poor the 2025 class may be, perhaps Jones/Lock are here through the end of 2025..maybe ‘26 is a good QB class…

Garoppolo was hardly a major screw up.

In 2019, when Niners went 13-3 and to the SB, they were 3rd in the league in net yards per passing attempt.

2020, JG was hurt for majority of season.

2021, Niners went 10-7, JG started 15 of 17 games, and Niners were first in the league in net yards per passing attempt.

2022, Garapollo was 7-3 in 10 starts with 16 TDs and 4 INTs before getting hurt and Purdy taking over.

Aside from Purdy, look at their 2022 draft. It's awful.
The Pats have no reason to make a fair trade
Sean : 4/14/2024 9:25 am : link
To get them to trade 3, NYG will have to blow them away. That's what makes the QB evaluations tough. If they're right, no cost is too much. I hope Schoen trusts his evaluation.
In this is draft

the package to go from 6 to 3 would be radically different than the one to go from 11 to 3.
Those 3 WRs make all the difference

With all due respect to Tom Curran
Vin_Cuccs : 4/15/2024 11:59 am : link
It is a very, very big difference to move from #12 to #3 versus #6 to #3.

The Giants may or may not trade up, but I get the feeling that many members of the media are underestimating the value in high 1st round picks and essentially saying that all 1st round picks are equal. Not the case at all.
