Good reminder of how NYG operate on draft day (last year)

The one the year before this was really good too.

I forgot how much Wink loved that Banks pick. Well-right now-that looks like a winner for us. So I guess...thanks Wink for advocating for him? Haha. Have fun in Ann Arbor!
Those were great videos....

Tynes called picks 2 and 3.

Who does he have us taking at 6 this year?

Few BBI'ers wearing their Liberty #7 jerseys outside the war room grinding their teeth over their boy being passed over. 😢
Thanks for that Eric

I remember watching this after the draft last year, and thinking “these guys have a clue, they’re doing things the right way”
Things went badly last year. But I got the same feeling re watching that Schoen and his team know what they’re doing.
Reinforces my faith a bit.
a few relevant to this year things these videos bring to mind

1. Rico's thread from a few days ago, this regime targets specific players they like. Last year they moved up for Banks even though Porter was still available so they were guaranteed one or the other. They didn't settle for whichever was left, they had one they specifically liked and went up.

2. At the top in 2022 they had their "top 6 list" and hoped at least 1 of them fell to 7. Who knows how many that list goes this year, but I very much doubt they trade down outside of it unless all their tops are gone. Unless the JJM stuff is total bs that seems unlikely because even if they take out nabers, it seems unlikely they'd take off harrison or odunze. so the list should be at least 6, and it may be 7 or 8 if they are good with the nabers off field or have another position rated high (Alt?).

the obvious big unknown this year is if they like any QB enough to move up aggressively and if they have a partner to do so with. i continue to doubt NE moves down. below is a link to an interview with Phil Perry from NBCS Boston, he talked about how much Eliot Wolf values QBs who can make plays off platform so i have to think they will ultimately buy into 1 of JJM/Maye. also reiterates the same thing other BOS reporters have said that moving down would require a haul bigger than what SF gave up for Lance.

Arizona at #4 is where the draft begins, big question is what is their top priority? to pass on MHJ is going to take a lot and there are likely to be big offers on the table.

1. as the draft approaches and we hear all sorts of rumors, remember this video and how last year the giants expected the ravens to take banks ahead of them and didnt know who buffalo wanted. even with the best intel and relationships the teams themselves arent sure what their choices will be.

2. was just looking up top 30 visits last year and had forgotten that they visited both porter and banks. seems interesting given that they moved up for banks, apparently liking him significantly enough over porter that they werent willing to just wait on whoever fell to them. same true with hyatt to a degree. they had him clearly highest rated left at #55 even though a bunch of other teams after that took WRs over him.

cant wait for this years version of these videos. draft honestly my favorite event of the sports year other than a team i root for deep in playoffs.
I don’t think i ever say anything about

Why Banks was a target and Porter was not. What was it about Porter that NYG did not like?

no idea - but the fact that he fell to round 2 when he was clearly a good player leads me to think that he rubbed teams the wrong way or had something medical. the giants top 30'd him so they were interested, but something knocked him meaningfully enough below banks they gave up the pick to move up.

I also wonder about Martindale's input because even if Schoen as an evaluator felt both were good players worth fully looking into, Banks made more sense in Martindale's defense. So he might have been the one telling Schoen "I want Banks not Porter." Like we saw when Schoen let Daboll make a trade, the coaches are directly involved so it seems possible.

Between Shane Bowen as DC and Ryan Cowden as advisor to the GM I think it is definitely worth looking at the Titans defensive drafting tendencies.
