NFT: Any resources to slow hair loss?

Matt123 : 4/13/2024 7:41 pm
I used to have very thick hair (barber would often thin it, and I'd have to use hair gel to avoid a puffy mess), but the last couple years I can see and feel it thinning. I seem to be losing it from the very front, which is the most visible. And if I move my hands through it, I'm guaranteed to have a few hairs come out.

Any resources or tips to slow this down? I'm 43.

A plugged in toaster oven into the bathtub you're in definitely works.

Rogaine?

They say you get your hair from your Mom's old man. Thankfully for me he died with a full head of hair & I'm still sporting it, Haha.
And, no, I can't help.

are you married? kids?

secure with your physical appearance?

if so, just embrace it, it's who you are.

if not, no advice other than I'm pretty sure there are a shitload of scams out there so be careful. But I do know that a colleague of mine went to turkey (or has a trip set to go) for hair plugs. he's early 30's single, and is balding so he felt it was worth it and apparently turkey has or has approved some unique treatments not yet available in the US.

Just go to the gym

And shave your head.

I started losing at 24 years old. Never caused me any issues.

Don’t be the dude with weird scars on your head from failed hair transplant surgery, a weird tupe, or combover job.
I think I still have

Buy the Cleanser (Shampoo) and Scalp Therapy (Conditioner). Get the big bottles, save money that way.

Stuff is legit, I noticed more hair in the shower than usual when I was 26. Started using this stuff and it stopped almost immediately. If anything it made my hair thicker.
There’s this thing called the internet

On the World Wide Web you can research things

Propecia and rogaine are pretty well known

And then there’s this whole making a doctors appointment option too

…or the third option is to go on a sports message board and ask on a Saturday night. That choice of action makes sense too.

Hair replacement tourism economies.

Balding men flocking there by the thousands. I'd be a good candidate as the hair on my sides and back is really thick but who wants to have to comb it? More work so I just accept it and run the buzzers once a week.

Replacement surgeries work because otherwise we'd have bald guys all over TV and the movies.

I always tell my wife that even if I invested the time and effort to be good looking I'd still have this personality so why waste the effort.
take it like a man.

I, like George Costanza, am left with the ruins of a once great hair civilization. Not that big a deal.

You can go with eventually shaving your head, or not.

I was in a similar situation in early 40's. Hair falling out like crazy. I am not a shave your head guy, so I researched and did everything possible to stop hair loss- including speaking with many doctors.

Obviously everyone's genetics are different but below worked for me. I have the same, if not more, hair now than 10-15 years ago.

1) Minoxidil twice a day. Costco (5% formula, liquid) is inexpensive and effective.
2) 1mg Finasteride per day. It works, though many people don't want to take it. Doctor prescribed, you need a PSA test first. Insurance does not not cover because it is "cosmetic" though again Costco out of pocket is inexpensive ($14 for 90 day supply).
3) Biotin vitamins. I take 5000mg per day. Seems to have thicken hair.

Good luck.
What kind of Shampoo and Conditioner are good for hair loss?

Once you shave your head.... You don't have to worry about your hair falling out anymore. You actually gain your confidence back because it's no longer an issue.
If you really want to get creative you could have your stubble hairline tattooed on your head. I decided to not go that far. Not worth the money to me. Good luck!

I've used it for several years. Didn't gain anything back. Maybe maintained some.

Dad is totally bald on top. My two younger brothers one two years younger and one 10 years younger. Both have significant hair loss. I started propecia about 10 years ago and have a full head of hair. I remember a show on nbc filmed guys heads who had some hair loss. They were all given different products to stop hair growth. They returned a year later and propecia is the only one the slowed down hair loss.

As others said, just go with it. By a wahl shaver—I do mine at 1, and save a lot of money on haircuts.

Best thing is when I wake up I already know what I look like. I can get up shower and be out the door in 5 min.

Welcome to getting older.

If you follow the same path as I did - (got lucky with the hair thing) but, next will be your eyesight, then your prostate (waking up in the middle of the night to piss all the time), then your recall abilities. Sometimes the simplest words will not come to mind.

Getting old is not for pussies.
