If we trade back with Minny, their #11 and #23 for our 6th
PatersonPlank : 4/14/2024 2:11 pm : link
this would almost achieve this too. We could take Nix or Penix at #11, and then at #23 maybe we don't get Odunze or Nabers but we ould get our pick of the next guys (which is in this deep WR draft would still be very good)
we've discussed what to do
Dave on the UWS : 4/14/2024 2:12 pm : link
for 3 months now.
looking at this from a global standpoint, it makes "sense",
that they "may" have singled out 1 QB. Trading up to 3 to (hopefully) make sure you get that guy.
Backup plan? (or 1b), you have 3 ELITE WRs who will be picked in the top 10. Pretty damn good plan B.

Now, they will still have ALL the draft capital they were planning to put into a trade up.
Using some of it to trade back into RD1 to take either Nix or Penix (he's made a 30 visit), will give them a new QB and a WR
who will completely remake the WR room.
I could absolutely get on board for this.
Easy for him to say

Same here, I think there is a real legit chance we could trade up into the end of rd2 for Penix if the Vikings get Maye or JJM.

Thats a good point. Rumor is the Bears want to trade back from 9. Maybe we could snag Odunze at 9 for our 4th and pick 11. Then Penix at 23. I love that idea. It would be a bit risky, but if it worked out the potential is unreal.

To top 12 (most likely 10 if they want Penix) without giving up a massive haul.

Seems the better idea is to trade up for the QB you really love and then draft one of these 2nd or 3rd round WRs in a deep draft for the position.

Unless they can't trade up for the QBs they really love (Maye, Daniels for example) because the teams above them already drafted them.

They have the best situation from teams like the Patriots or Cardinals moving down. The opposing team would only fall to 6 and still be in position to acquire a blue chip player. They do not have that ability by trading down with Las Vegas or Minnesota, for example.

A blue chip player yes, but NE needs a blue chip QB.

It depends who they covet. If they like JJ, for instance, he could very well be there at 6. That's a fantastic trade by NE by getting the Giants pick(s) and getting a QB they like. If they like Daniels, he may not be available and may also not like Maye. It all depends how they feel about each QB.

But in that scenario there's no guarantee JJ would be there at 6. NE needs to come away with a QB is this draft, I just don't see them passing on taking one at 3.
What teams did he play for?

I wouldn't say that is likely. Penix could very easily slide into the end of rd1. Who knows, I'd say it's one of the biggest wildcards for the first round. I like the idea of trading down with the Vikings for 11 and 23 more and more. Draft can't be here soon enough!
I love how these “experts” say it’s so easy
Jarvis : 4/14/2024 3:00 pm : link
Just trade back up from 47…no one else will potentially be trying to get a QB…no problem…that way you get a stud WR and your QB of the future…

Issue 1: I promise the teams at the end of the 1st aren’t looking to help the giants…who’s to say the cost to move from 47. Everyone is worried about moving up from to 4 form 6, but if you notice none of the se “trade up from 47” mocks say what it will cost. So Baldinger says “Giants need to move on from DJ” but what if there isn’t a QB available.

Issue 2: People talk about a late 1st/early 2nd round QB as if it’s a guarantee it will work out. Yet so much fear that the top of the 1st QB will bust. The fact is, the single most important position is QB. If we trade assets to move up into the late 1st we will really have to hope that we get lucky and this player is a franchise QB. The data says it’s extremely unlikely.

Penix seems very unlikely to slide past Vegas. It's going to be costly. But there's rumors of NE setting the discussion at 3 firsts if things break down in such a way they they're willing to trade back. Any trade is going to be expensive.

I watched 2022 season.

I have no problem with the same HC, QB, real WRs including a "my ball" alpha type, RB integrated into the passing game, and a o-line that is at least somewhat better than worst ever seen on the face of the earth.

If the rest of BBI is right, I know the worst that will happen is having the 1st overall pick in next year's draft. Much prefer that to way over-drafting JJM.

This is an important caveat. Schoen needs to come away with one of the top six QBs. If he goes WR, he needs to land one of Penix or Nix.

You cannot go into the season with Jones-Lock-DeVito. I'm hopeful Schoen knows this. [/quote

If Penix is known to go top 13 by Schoen then trading up from 47 to 10 or 9 is not an option. It would be impossible. Only way to get Penix then is at 6 or via small trade down. I would rather Odunze or JJM at 6 over that option. And you could be right, I just checked the Raiders top 30 visits and they haven't had a visit with Arnold, Mitchell or any of the tackles so my thought based on Raider's fans preferences of OT or CB at 13 might be totally off base.

I agree, as everyone knows here I'm a big fan of JJM and would be excited about a trade up for Maye even though I like JJM more.

Nevertheless, I can easily see us taking Odunze over JJM and rolling with Jones/Lock/Devito for 2024. I've been on the QB draft bandwagon since DJ's pick 6 against Seattle. If we can't get Maye I feel it's more likely than not that we will take Odunze and roll with the current QB room though. I'd rather prepare myself to be pleasantly surprised rather than utterly disappointed.

No to Nix for me, he has a noodle arm and would fit an offense based on timing and short to intermediate routes. I think hes a really poor fit for what Dabs wants, plus no top 30 visit (just him and cw out of the top 6 with no visit).

Odunze
Simms : 4/14/2024 5:18 pm : link
The reason I like him is because of our OL, and current QB room. He can go get the ball and has done well with contested catches.

I know many are thinging trade with the Panthers and grab Nix.
Would not be shocked the Giants trade up to grab a CB.

Mara Tech always had eyes for Locke and its not far fetched for our Medium Pepsi front office to see him as a stop cap player for this season and perhaps to start next.

Sure we need a better QB, or one of the two OL who will be drafted in the first round. Additionally there are other interesting WR in this draft should we go OL, CB vs the mainstream WR/QB - QB/WR flag wavers.

The issue is we rarely do well in the later rounds, especially for keeping players into a second contact.

We have a few Beckham ish players, its time to go big body WR that is not a headcase and wants to get better.

Whoever we take please let me the right choice.

I’m with you on trading down with Minnesota for their 2 1sts. Draft value charts indicate that trade would be very nicely in the Giants favor. They can then take Penix at 11 and a WR they really like at 23. They still have all their remaining 24 and 25 draft picks. And Penix could be one of the best QBs from this class.

I bet Schoen has talked to the Vikings about this scenario. And it’s one Minny might prefer to giving the entire vault to NE or the Cardinals.

Let’s see.

Yeah, it's not mental gymnastics. It's prioritizing the potential perennial all pro flawless character guy in Odunze over the injury red flagged, 24 year old Penix whom you could very reasonably get via trade up into the end of rd1. While I would prefer JJM at 6 over Odunze, I would rather Odunze at 6 than trading the farm for Maye. I know you would be a fan of trading the king's ransom for Maye. Ironically, I think the only reason NE might be willing to trade us the pick for Maye is because they would have a move in place to secure JJM immediately after. Definitely the most exciting draft since 2004. 10 days 22 hours 10 minutes and counting..

There’s at least 4 teams in the 1st who make sense for Penix after the Giants pick. Assuming you can get him “very reasonably” with a trade up is mental gymnastics. Way too much has to break right for the Giants for that to be a realistic possibility.

It's prioritizing the potential perennial all pro flawless character guy in Odunze over the injury red flagged, 24 year old Penix whom you could very reasonably get via trade up into the end of rd1. I'm not passing up on Odunze for a QB I would value at the end of rd1. That's shopping beyond hungry, that's shopping starving.

There’s at least 4 teams in the 1st who make sense for Penix after the Giants pick. Assuming you can get him “very reasonably” with a trade up is mental gymnastics. Way too much has to break right for the Giants for that to be a realistic possibility.

You wouldn't be banking on it obviously. Nevertheless, Penix could very realistically slide to the end of rd1. At which point, the trade up cost would be very reasonable. If you love Penix as a 1st rd pick, you don't take this gamble.
I would wager no sane poster on BBI watching the Mich-Wash title game

would ever have contemplated using that #6 overall pick on either of those QBs.

And yet here we are.
