Comp pick window ends after draft

Jon C. in MD : 4/14/2024 10:20 pm
Reminder that any free agents signed after 4pm Monday after the draft (apr 29) don't count towards the comp pick calculations.

Could be why Adoree Jackson is still a free agent. If another team signed him now, the Giants would likely get a comp pick and the signing team would likely lose one. And teams are also probably waiting until after the draft to assess needs.

Quote:

Compensatory Free Agent (“CFA”) shall be defined as an Unrestricted Free Agent (“UFA”) who: (i) signed with a new Club during the prior free agency signing period […] prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the Monday following the NFL Draft for that League Year1 […]; and (ii) ranked within the top 35%2 of all League players […]. Clubs that lose to other Clubs a greater number of CFAs than they sign or acquire from other Clubs shall be eligible to receive a Compensatory Draft Selection in the College Draft to be held in the following League Year subject to the provisions set forth below.
1 Prior to 2015, this date was June 1, and from 2015-2019 this date was the second Tuesday after the NFL Draft.
2 Under the 2011 CBA, this threshold was the top 50%.

Just by way of knowing that comp pick calcs are over in just a week or 2, have to believe the Giants know he's not going to impact their picks.

It would be enormously stupid to potentially give up a 4th round pick to sign Jordan Phillips a week earlier so he can go to voluntary minicamp

He's on the "non cfa" list on OTC's site. So, no, he doesn't count.

any teams not currently set to get comp picks could sign adoree. most of the vet FAs still out there are waiting to sign with a team that has a favorable depth after the draft. they know they are only getting a 1 year deal and know they need to play well somewhere to earn a better deal next year.
