"O.J.:Made in America"

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/15/2024 7:52 pm
Just finished this five episode doc...Good Lord, what a tour de force. I remember when it came out in '16 & the reviews were glowing, but I never got around to watching it. After Simpson died last week, Netflix added it to their catalog & I started watching it this weekend. Each episode is 90ish minutes or so, but damn is it riveting.

One thing-football wise-that I didn't know is how sluggish Simpson's NFL career was his first three seasons until '73 when Lou Saban became the Bills HC & Buffalo started running the ball all the time. '73 was the season O.J. went for 2K, becoming the first RB ever to do that.

If you have Netflix & haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
it was very well done

What was also really good was "The People v. O.J. Simpson" which aired on FX and had Travolta as Shapiro and some other well known actors. I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't expect it to be as good as it was.

That was great too...Gooding Jr. as Simpson. Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark. Sterling Brown as Darden. Nathan Lane as Lee Bailey. The guy who played JFK from '13 Days' as Garcetti. Travolta as Shapiro. The dude who played Ross in 'Friends' as Robert Kardashian.
One thing we cannot deny..

is OJ's greatness on the field.
Thanks for the heads up about Netflix.

Watched it when it aired on ESPN and was blown away by it. The whole saga still fascinates me 30 years later.
Great doc.

As I've posted before: We were watching and an interview came on and my wife said "Oh, it's our landlord."

WHAT??

The guy who directed the Hertz commercials with OJ running through airports? He put that money into Los Angeles real estate. Including the apartment building I lived in for about 20 years.

The best scene I think was when Clark was buying tampons and the clerk says something like “looks like the defense is in for a hell of a week”…honorary 2nd was Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian saying something along the lines of “we’re the kardashians, we don’t sell out for money”

were OJ and (then) Lew Alcindor. They were god-like. Thanks for the tip, didn't see it when it first came out.
If Ron Goldman did not return the glasses

There would have been no murders.

Think about that.
People vs OJ felt like a long skit

I really didnt know whether to take it seriously or not. It was entertaining but I didn’t think the performances were good. Schwimmer was awful, lol.

If there's some relevant detail here, I'm forgetting it - if Goldman doesn't show up, why doesn't Simpson only kill one person?

and matching fibers of OJ and victims all found at both the crime scene and OJ's house. Flees the scene and becomes a fugitive, inconsistencies in alibi, his odd actions/behavior upon returning to LA, domestic violence and motive.

All beyond a reasonable doubt though.

Should call that tv show "Only in America".

He’s said this on a couple of OJ threads and I don’t get it either. OJ went to Nicole’s with a knife, knit cap, gloves and likely some kind of change of shoes/clothes. Perhaps he was just gonna scare her, but murder was very much an option in his mind.

Simpson was guilty AF. I still remember being a sophomore in high school and them rolling the TVs in for the verdict.

Seriously, you can't figure out the point that's being made?

Evidently, I'm not the only one. But please keep us all in suspense.

Let OJ tell you why Goldman was the cause of the murders.
He confesses - ( New Window )
If I recall . . .

a key part of the prosecution timeline theory was that Nicole's feet had no blood or dirt on them (her body was on the cement walk). He killed her, then Goldman comes along . . . wrong place, wrong time, and he had dirt, grass and blood smeared everywhere during the losing battle to Simpson & the knife.

Yep, the evidence suggested that OJ hit Nicole with the back end of the knife (pommel?) to knock her out while he dealt with the bigger threat to him - Goldman. After he killed Goldman and went back over to Nicole and cut her throat. I don’t think it’s known for sure if OJ snuck up on both of them at once, or if Goldman really did just show up at the absolute worst possible time with an attack in progress. Either way, I think it’s a safe bet that the confrontation with Nicole wasn’t going to end well for her.

My guess is that Ron had absolutely horrible timing and OJ-who watched her have sex with an earlier boyfriend-suspected Ron was her lover and that was that.

Just a vicious double murder.

That whole "interview" was nuts, as was the premise of the book. He constantly slips up, answering, more or less, for real and then correcting himself that it's hypothetical. I always took it as just a cathartic means for him to confess without confessing.

In this documentary, they talk to the guy who helped ghostwrite it and OJ pretty much tells him the route he took from Nicole’s to Rockingham. And the guy is like ‘He sees the look on my face and then says ‘This is how I would have gotten from there to home if I did it.’
The funniest part of that interview clip is OJ
bceagle05 : 4/16/2024 5:21 pm : link
claiming Nicole “fell and hurt herself” before he fought and killed Goldman - glossing over the fact that he knocked her out.

Tough sequence for Nicole - she just happened to slip and fall and hurt herself just moments before being nearly decapitated.

OJ having a different reason every time he was asked by a different person about the cut on his finger…
