Florio speculating Vikings could get 8th pick from tampering

Sean : 4/15/2024 8:46 pm
Vikings & Falcons would swap picks due to ATL tampering with Cousins. Lombardi also mentions this on podcast today.

What about the Eagles tampering with Barkley?
robbieballs2003 : 4/15/2024 8:48 pm : link
Is that why we are looking at all these mid to late first round players with our top 30 visits? One can hope. 😂
That would be a huge misfortune for us
UConn4523 : 4/15/2024 8:50 pm : link
makes moving up easier for them, those 3 spots are big.

Not if you want them to keep their draft capital and draft BPA WR
Seems like a lot, Falcons would appeal or something I bet.
BleedBlue46 : 4/15/2024 8:59 pm : link
Doubt it would happen this late, Falcons would have to voluntarily do this or else they could delay it into next year.
This would change the whole draft
Giantimistic : 4/15/2024 9:02 pm : link
Trading down to 8 is a big difference from 11.

For the Eagles tampering they would make Philly swap 1st round picks with us :)

flip-flopping the two picks?"

He's just speculating, I doubt it.
Here's the eagles-cards settlement from last year:
BleedBlue46 : 4/15/2024 9:08 pm : link
Quote:
The Cardinals and Eagles have settled a tampering investigation by trading picks in the 2023 and 2024 draft. Specifically, they're swapping third-round picks in 2023 (a 28-pick difference), and the Cardinals will receive the Eagles' fifth-round pick in 2024.

I see little chance in hell of this happening. It would be completely unprecedented.

Yeah if you don’t want a QB I get it but this could decrease our options which isn’t good.
I don't think the Vikings should benefit this much
Sean : 4/15/2024 9:17 pm : link
Going from 11 to 8 is far greater a benefit than just swapping 3rd round picks. I doubt this will happen, just feels like too much for Minnesota.
Unlikely
ThomasG : 4/15/2024 9:18 pm : link
.
That would be more unethical than the tampering.
Blue21 : 4/15/2024 9:20 pm : link
That potentially punishes everyone 2-7. Can't happen.
If the Falcons are smart they
larryflower37 : 4/15/2024 9:26 pm : link
Push an Appeal until after the draft .
Seems Like Wishful Thinking By Florio (a Vikings Fan)
KennyHill48 : 4/15/2024 9:27 pm : link
With something like that you are not only hurting the Falcons, but also hurting the other trade up candidates like the Giants, Broncos and Raiders because you are improving the Viking's trade up position without them having to give up anything. The Philly-Arizona pick swap did not impact any other teams because it was a swap of third round picks among teams that did not have any obvious trade up hopes. Would not surprise me if the league announces something after the 1st round where Minnesota gets something like a #2 or #3 from Atlanta next year so its impactful but is not something the Vikings can use to trade up in the first round.
Remember...
JohnG in Albany : 4/15/2024 9:31 pm : link
Florio is a Vikings fan.
There is almost zero chance of this happening
LW_Giants : 4/15/2024 11:12 pm : link
It'd be completely unprecedented in the modern NFL. His only example of a similar thing happening was with 3rd round picks and both teams agreed to it. There is no chance Atlanta would willingly go along with this. Could the league try and do it anyway? Sure, but given how rampant tampering is these days, the league won't want to set such a precedent because it could dramatically change the first round of the draft every single year.
His logic seems pretty silly to me.
Mad Mike : 4/15/2024 11:24 pm : link
Because teams swapped third round picks last year, maybe this year the punishment will be swapping first round picks? If anything, the magnitude of the punishment last year seems like pretty compelling evidence that it would be less than a first round swap for the Falcons and Vikings.
Especially a Joke
MojoEd : 4/15/2024 11:37 pm : link
Because Cousins is the ultimate mercenary. Tamper proof because all he cares about is the biggest contract, not that there is anything wrong with that.
I got the idea this was wild speculation from Florio last week
UberAlias : 4/16/2024 8:40 am : link
and a few others picked up on it and ran with it.

Do you want them to draft WR or do you want them to draft BPA?

Listing a specific position is kind of the antithesis of "BPA."

Huh? I've never heard of something like this happening before.
I doubt this would happen
section125 : 4/16/2024 9:28 am : link
as it would then affect several teams ahead of either the Falcons or Vikings in the 1st round. The Vikings weren't keeping Cousins anyway.
Clickbait. There's no way that the NFL would set
Strahan91 : 4/16/2024 9:49 am : link
a precedent like this. Every other team that's been a victim of tampering (like the Giants) would cause an uproar. It'd be a total mess
I’m surprised Florio would float something this ridiculous.
Section331 : 4/16/2024 10:00 am : link
This just isn’t happening, unless the NFL finally decided to go after tampering, which they have shown little indication to do. Last year’s 3rd round pick swap means there will be a 1st round this year has to be some of the worst logic I’ve seen from a respected NFL analyst in some time. Just absurd.
That would be like getting a 10 year sentence
