Devin McCourty and Logan Ryan break down the New York Giants' quarterback situation, discussing if the team should "look for the future" and select a player to ultimately replace Daniel Jones. Link - ( New Window )
Everyone is under the assumption that if the Giants don’t draft a QB this year that Mara forced Schoen’s hand to stick with DJ. They might think it’s too pricy and not worth the trade up or the 3 they like go 1-2-3 and they didn’t have a shot no matter what. Maybe they don’t like Penix or Nix and they love a prospect at 6 that they don’t want to trade down. And maybe a move up from 47 is impossible because they both go higher than they can move.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t moving on… or they are giving DJ another year. DJ is going to be on the roster this year regardless. Maybe he plays a little or Lock plays. Outside of a legit miracle…DJ staying healthy, and playing at an all pro level, making the playoffs etc… he’s gone in 2025. And they go all in on a QB next year.
I’m not saying this is the right thing to do, I’m just saying this is a possibility.
I know people are going to bring up next years QB class isn’t supposed to be good, but nobody really knows. Just like all the draft experts giving these QB ratings, doesn’t mean Schoen and the Giants scouts feel the same way.
Again don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just stating a possible outcome.
Not selecting a QB with the first pick doesn’t mean they are not moving on from Jones. It means they couldn’t get the guy they wanted there or trade up to get him.
Fans still can't get past the sticker shock of the contract
fact is, the Giants signed a 26 year old QB coming off his very best season to a deal that pays him what amounts to around the 10th or 12th highest deal in the league. And it's a deal that allows for "escapeability" after 2 seasons, which is one year from now. Again, let that sink in. Forget the actual money. It's all relative. When you sign an in his prime player to a deal and he's only paid about 10th or so, that is not a MONSTER deal even if the money is huge. IF the Giants knew they had their stud QB and Jones and his agents knew they were elite or close to it, he's not the 10th highest paid QB at the time he signed that deal. He's be more like Andrew Thomas or Lawrence --those guys were at the very top.
DJ was paid more than some slob journeyman so we can't call the deal anything that paltry, but the facts show he was paid as a sort of bridge or stop gap with potential to earn more (this time next year) or be cut (also this time next year) and really it's obvious. IF you can't see it because of 80 million guaranteed, just look at how much a good young QB gets when he signs a FA deal at age 26-28. HE aint gonna be 10th highest paid I can tell you that.

Wrong. I'm under the assumption JS would not work for a GM that told him what to do. C'mon with this BS.
