Hope he's ok though. McNeil tagged him out on his ankle in midair as he was running leading to that fall.

mets winning the ws.

that tyrone taylor/adrian houser trade is mind boggling btw. that was definitely an 'i owe you my career mr. stearns' trade.
nice comfortable lead

hopefully can rest the big guns in the bullpen.

Severino has his ERA down to 2.14.

@Mets (Eppler + Stearns) turned Eduardo Escobar (hitting .236/.286/.409 at the time of the trade) into Adrian Houser, Tyrone Taylor (3 years of control) and Landon Marceaux. Quite the dub
Was Taylor a failed prospect
Metnut : 4/17/2024 3:26 pm : link
or always projected as a utility type of guy? He's looked good so far this year but I knew nothing about him other than just a name Mets got in the Houser deal.

A little of both. He wasn't supposed to be some sort of star, was viewed as an overdraft by the Brewers 1st round, viewed by most as a good 4th OFer. His ranking in the Brewers system had more to do with their poor drafts than his actual "talent level".
Brewers took him
DanMetroMan : 4/17/2024 3:35 pm : link
early 2nd round despite

"A standout running back and safety for the Torrance football team, Taylor is an excellent athlete who figures to polish some of his rough edges once he focuses on baseball. A shoulder strain relegated him to DH duties and clouded his draft stock a bit, but Taylor has shown a solid-average arm and good instincts in center field when healthy. His above-average speed also plays on the basepaths, where he is aggressive and gets good reads. Scouts are a bit conflicted on Taylor's bat. He has an unusual load, rocking onto his back leg before moving forward, but he has a fairly efficient swing path and good bat speed. He has a tendency to push the ball, but some he has a chance to develop into a quality doubles hitter with fringy power potential as he matures. Taylor's bat carries risk, but his athleticism and all-around tools package could get the Cal State Fullerton recruit drafted between the second and fourth rounds. "

His speed in the OF never really translated to part of his offensive game and he doesn't really walk (.296 OBP career) so offensively it's kind of a mixed bag upside wise.

Brewers are just exceedingly well run. Lost their top tier manager, traded their ace, won't have their #2 for all of 2024 and yet they have the 2nd best record in the NL as of right now

strongly suspect Stearns brings on a GM in the off-season. It's clear he and Arnold were both really great together and that both are tier 1 baseball minds. It's not just a situation where Stearns left Arnold this loaded roster, Arnold has made quite a few strong moves over the past 24 or so months.

I could easily throw out names that he's worked with in the past but then he went and hired Carlos Mendoza so it's tough to say. One name that continues to make sense is Matt Klentak who has a similar background to Stearns, well regarded, not under contract, former GM and whom Stearns reportedly has a good relationship with. That's really just a shot in the dark though.

Good seeing Starling Marte hitting MUCH better than last season but both OAA and DRS despise his fielding this season. Will be tougher when JDM joins the team but they should look to DH Marte when Martinez isn't in the lineup

DanMetroMan : 4/17/2024 4:36 pm : link
Still think it's kind of odd that Nunez only faced 1 hitter today unless they really wanted SRF pitching today and will be joining the team on the trip. Otherwise, strange #Mets

made the switch from Youtube TV to Hulu so I can watch games. Was thinking this wouldn't be necessary a week ago.
the burnes trade by Arnold was really bold
Eric on Li : 4/17/2024 4:39 pm : link
I give him a lot of credit for that. early days but ortiz is hitting .324 and the money they saved helped sign hoskins who basically won the met series (looks like he's cooled since) and junis who made 1 good start.

looks like hall is getting shelled but it seemed like most thought he ends up a reliever any way. mets hit him hard but got unlucky.

and still have the draft pick.

burnes is at .6 fwar right now with junis at .2 and ortiz at .4 so even with hall sucking and hoskins presently 0.0 they got their value back so far.
This is so Mets like

I was ready to ditch the season after 1 week - lol - based on the past two seasons, and they pull me back in.

I think the starting pitching is light and so is the bullpen, but maybe the help is in the system. Not something I expected a year ago looking at organizational top prospect reports when almost none of them had pitchers prominently placed (at least how it seemed). And who knows, maybe Butto turns into a pumpkin or maybe he's solid all year, but a lot of time left and now I have hope. Which as Red from Shawshank tells us:

"Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane. It's got no use on the inside"
Arnold
DanMetroMan : 4/17/2024 4:41 pm : link
also made the William Contreras deal (he's looking like a superstar right now), Payamps also in that deal (above average RP). In no way am I taking away from Stearns, just pointing out Arnold is top tier as well.

such a contradiction. How can hope be both good and bad? Really depends on perspective, right?

lol.

You can't ride the highs and lows of a 162 game season. Just take it as it comes.

Might be a decent year or not, I think they're somewhere in between this and the mess that started the first week of the season.

to be fair
pjcas18 : 4/17/2024 4:54 pm : link
I did bet the over on wins for the season at 81.5 when most people took the under simply because I wanted to root for wins.
I
DanMetroMan : 4/17/2024 4:56 pm : link
predicted 83 wins and I'm that's still roughly what I expect.

is having a Diaz-like start to the season for OAK.

He gave up 2 ER his 1st appearance in March.

Since then 6 appearances, 8 innings, 3, hits, 3 BBs, 16 K's 0 ER, 4 saves
