Trailers are not movies, as we all know, but yeah...
I think this has a chance to be very popular with its target audience.
They guy who directed Toy Story 4 and wrote the screenplay for Inside Out. I'd say as a director, he's a 2nd rd pick with big upside. We'll have to wait and see.
Even as a kid during its inception in the early 80's:
The original cartoon (and possibly the comics, not sure) suggested that they were all incapacitated for several million years after crashing into a volcano. The volcano erupted in modern times, awakening the ship's computer which then dispatched a drone of some kind to scan objects. The Transformers were then repaired and modified to transform into these objects.
So then how the fuck did so many of the Transformers have names based on the objects they transformed into, if that object didn't fucking exist until millions of years after the crash?
Is there a more true to the definition of a fictional hero of our time, grew up on the cartoon and movie. The only other one that can rival him is Obi-wan.

Would’ve preferred a basic cartoon version too but, Transformers has had tons of success with this type of animation and, will no doubt sell a boat load of new merchandise.
RE: One thing that always bothered me about Transformers

Same sort of thing with the Thundercats.
Each of the Thundercats we knew had names that reflected their species: Lion-o, Panthro, Tigra, etc. They were supposedly from a planet with humanoid cats. If they all were named after their cat species, they'd either run out of possible names or have a tiny planetary population!
