Chad Forbes @NFLDraftBites Patriots don’t like Drake Maye…. Good for Drake Maye. He’ll get the opportunity to succeed in a far better situation. Giants / Vikings / Broncos That’s unless Jonathan Kraft intervenes and insists on a QB. In that case? I’d bet they take McCarthy. |
We trade up with 'Zona.
We trade up with 'Zona.
What did GoDeep say about Maye?
We trade up with 'Zona.
This is better.
This is going to be a costly 50-50 battle between the Giants and the Vikings. I prefer to overpay a little for Maye than to let McCarthy come to us.
Gun to head, I think we're trying to get a QB. That doesn't mean it'll happen. But the thought of us sticking @ 6 & Maye on the board & saying 'No thanks'...I'd be surprised.

I interpret the Maye stuff as NYG/MIN trying to misdirect interest elsewhere. I think they both want Maye.
I'm almost certain that was about JJM
Look at who he works for
No one.
You don't have to tell me :)
I'm certain the asshat reference about passing on QB was about JJM though, not Maye.
I'd rather bust trying with Maye than continue to ride the DJ Bust Train further into the abyss.

And I don't blame them, they don't want another Sam Darnold situation. Maye is very boom or bust.

Exactly.

If I didn't like jjm od feel the same and if they traded a king's ransom for Maye I'd still be excited about the possibilities and the conviction.

Oh, I totally missed GoDeep's thread. I see what you're saying now, wow so it sounds like the NFL doesn't agree with the Maye loving anti-DJ crowd here. That's kind of hilarious given how staunch and confident the anti-JJM crowd is. I'm a bit amazed. Jeez
Given our current QB room I can't believe we would be this picky, especially if he is just sitting there at 6.

Interesting observation Gunny … only thing is you end up in the same place. Not trading up for a high risk guy at least gives you the chance to get some other skilled players.

They cite his change of offensive coordinator and a terrible team as a root cause for the inconsistencies. The also talk about how he didn't do the the QB circuit academies and passing camps like others. He is a natural athlete that played multiple sports (his family is a basketball family) and his upside is enormous.
His tape, is not great this year. So he's a projection, but his supporters don't feel like he's a project. His 22' tape is a step up, in a better more familiar system with a better team.
Literally same exact thing was said about Jones coming out
All this screams McCarthy.
I can be wrong, I get it, its the draft and you never know. But I don’t see Maye as a fit for what this system asks of QBs. This doesn’t shock me.

I still have a sneaky suspicion they'd be happy with trading down with the Vikings for pick 11, 23 2025 1st and 3rd or something like that and then take Nix at 11.

And who the coordinators are. All GB people who come from the sit and develop school of QBs and a west coast system that loves athletic QBs.

Nix would also fit what they do. However I think if you trade down, I think Nix fits very well in Payton’s system in Denver and you risk them jumping ahead of you to take him.
Just me thinking strategically, if Nix is their guy, they should just take him at 3 and not worry about pundits grades. If you have a conviction about a QB you think him and live or die by it.
Them taking Nix at 3 would be fantastic for the Giants…

You mean the Jones sister playing field hockey wasn't the reason behind his success?

Or trading down with us instead of Minnesota if they want Nix. If they traded down to 11, they would have plenty of ammo to outbid the Broncos trying to move up though.
My ideal scenario is Minnesota trades up with NE for Maye, we trade up with AZ for JJM (no more than pick 6, 70 and 2025 2nd), then NE gets Nix. I like JJM much more than Nix, he seems much safer yet I believe he has a good ceiling of potential too. Maye for picks 6, 47 and 2025 1st vs JJM for picks 6, 70 and 2025 2nd, I know what I would prefer. I'd hope we like Maye too in case Minnesota or NE takes JJM at 3 then we could get Maye for the same cost at 4.

If JJM is there @ six, I'm taking him. Sy had him as the #1 QB prospect in '25.

Dude, there’s a whole huge thread on Go Deep’s post saying the Giants don’t like Maye. You should read it.

Seriously. When the best traits are “looks the part” and “comes from an athletic family” I am ready to move on.

I corrected myself haha, I had missed thst whole thread. And it was GiantGrit who said we would not take JJM even at 6. That GoDeep thread is very entertaining.
The teams do the same with the reporters, lol.
