Everything to know about FOX Saturday Baseball: Mets vs. Dodgers Updated Apr. 19, 2024 1:51 p.m. ET - ( New Window )
I actually enjoyed when their mics were out in the first inning. Nice to listen to baseball hearing just the PA announcer and fans.
mets with an xba of .296 so far (5 actual hits), lad only .196 (2 actual hits).
big turn through top of order coming for butto.
.797 ops on the year hitting .286. that is the 2022 version maybe even better (everything under the hood looks good, including higher average exit velo). defense still problematic but he is hitting well enough he can be DH.
Now Freddie Freeman continues to kill the Mets...just like old times.

Enjoyable.

Same
their BP is shaky too though so bats need to keep scoring until it's diaz time.
But sure, I’m totally onboard with the mystical decision that Vientos has no spot here. Okay 🙄
otto and garrett each went multiple innings yesterday, raley and diekman each threw 20+ pitches. so they aren't fresh, in a perfect world they wouldnt have to pitch today.
so you had 4 guys fresh (tonkin, smith, lopez, diaz) with 5 innings left to fill. tried to sneak tonkin through as much as they could.
i suspect 1 of raley/diekman ends up in this one but they'd probably prefer to not have to use them and at least have some options.

It's the durability that's going with him, not his game.

was just stupid. Why didn't Smith start the inning? Our BP is fresh. Is this game not important?

Raley/Diekman probably only if we need to get a lefty out to end an inning. As far as CooperDash, Tonkin is totally different than Vientos. None of the AAA arms other than Garrett has stepped up as that guy who can pitch the 5th or 6th with a lead the day after your other usual options put in a lot of work.
hes clearly lost a lot of athleticism but thankfully he can still swing the bat.
And against the Dodgers of all teams.

agreed - i dont think you start diekman or raley in an inning but hopefully 1 (or both) are fresh enough to come in and face a lefty if smith or lopez get into a bind.
you may be able to get otto in today since he didnt throw a ton of pitches yesterday. should have garrett and diaz tomorrow but ideally you have 2 or 3 other arms fresh. if otto, raley, diekman pitch today they arent pitching 3 in a row tomorrow.
id guess that's their move. id guess 50/50 he gets swapped out tomorrow for someone fresh.
then you hope lopez can get through the 9 spot and give him a shot against betts, with either diekman/raley ready to come in for ohtani/freeman. could bring diekman/raley in for betts/ohtani/freeman and have diaz for hernandez.
who knows maybe even had diaz ready for betts/ohtani/freeman/hernandez? would be gutsy.
And against the Dodgers of all teams.
Dedniel Núñez has been the most effective reliever in AAA so far but he pitched 14th, 17th, and 18th so Mets probably didn’t think he would be available for this series
not sure who pitches the 9th but i guess it will depend on who is up (L or R).
diaz coming on now with ohtani up as tying run.
hes clearly lost a lot of athleticism but thankfully he can still swing the bat.
He was hurt so much of last season. If he's bad this year I'll call it but I still think he can bring it.
rosario wasnt signing to be a backup. he turned down bigger offers elsewhere to start (which is what he's doing in tampa, mostly in the OF).
slaten definitely looks like a missed opportunity. dont know why they didnt like him but also hard to argue their general decisions in the bp. garrett has been lights out and they have a sub-2 bp era. even some of the guys they didnt have room for have been good for other teams (adams).
i dont think they put him back out there already at 20 pitches.
outman, pages, lux up so maybe. he could over power those 3 and then you just dont pitch him tomorrow.
they are just cycling the bottom of the pen. those guys are all going to be waiver fodder types whether its tonkin, ramirez, whoever.
by cycling that spot with waivable players you get more fresh pitchers up - like they probably will tomorrow after they waive tonkin again.
think that's probably right. garrett threw a lot of pitches yesterday, figured he wasnt available. guess they figure may as well let him go while he's confident/hot.
This plate ump is atrocious
Hope he keeps it up.
now won 5 straight series all against winning teams.
hard to imagine a better start for mendoze even down to the showing the knock back after having started so disastrously.

Francisco Alvarez has a torn ligament in the thumb and will have surgery. Carlos Mendoza said unsure of timetable, but confidence he will return this year.
good thing they held on to narvaez and nido.

Yikes, that escalated quickly. Couple of hours ago it was just a sprain.
Get well soon, stud. The spot behind Home plate will be waiting for you.
