He won three games before his inexperience caught up to him. In comes Tyrod who showed that he can still play, but he was too expensive to keep.
It's good to remember that Taylor, the vet, blew critical plays that cost games - Against the Bills before the half and against the Rams, at the end of the game.
When you think about it, it's pretty remarkable what DeVito did, being thrown into the flames because nobody else was available (with a miserable record setting sacks-allowed offensive line trying to protect him)
DeVito & Peyton Manning are clearly in different universes, BUT it's interesting to note that the Colts were 3-13 in Manning's rookie year.
He is not the answer.
Haha! Well played!
For $1000.00 donation you get a bumper sticker and a Tommy DeVto bobblehead. (We're working on the tax exemption).
If they don't pick a QB, and Jones has a set back, I won't be surprised in the least if DeVito wins the job to start the season.
Nice ;)
I’m sleeping on Tommy. He’s 50-50 to be on the Practice Squad.
Than the "can't miss" guy.
I didn't know there been that many in the history of the NFL. Here's an article that talks about that.
https://nypost.com/2024/02/03/sports/brock-purdy-not-only-long-shot-quarterback-to-start-in-super-bowl/
The one they missed was Johnny Unitas - an amazing story (the Steelers cut him and gave him the $10 bus fare to go home) ....

You put Tommy DeVito in the same sentence as Peyton Manning and Johnny Unitas...
I would like to hold on to him and if we somehow end up with still only 3 QBs I'd like to hold on to him with the new rules. I do think if he's stashed on the practice squad again he will end up on another team before the season is over. But, that's also fine.

Also, if we draft a QB in the draft, that means Jones is likely gone (eventually). So would make sense to have Tommy be QB #3 behind Lock.
Reese did. Gettleman didn't do anything near enough to correct that. Getting triggered like a pre teen who's parents won't get her 4000 Taylor Swift tickets every time someone says babying about DG might be sign though to log off for a bit

funny, with these idiotic phrases. He absolutely destroyed this franchise.

Gettleman was 19-46. An absolute stain on the franchise. People who run to his defense must be immediate family
He is not the answer.
No he won’t be. DeVito gave every indication of being an excellent back-up QB.

They could discuss it over some vinegared peppers

Not a chance in hell they open the season with him starting.
If that happens they would sign some out of work vet that got cut

You're better than this.
BUT, he showed ZERO ability to read the defense pre or post snap, held the ball because he couldn't figure out where to go with it.
Now, if he improves THAT with experience, even up to Jones' less than acceptable level, he will make a good backup QB.
NYG won't be that quick to dump him.
If they draft a QB, I'm hoping they find a way to keep Jones on PUP all season until they can dump him. This way, Devito stays as QB3
He is not good and never will be
We’d have an extra pick from Saquon, DeVito would have gotten more experience, and the team would likely be drafting at higher position than #6.
Real impressive.

I think people also forget he was a rookie. His numbers were better than Bryce Young’s with a QB rating of 89 vs. Young’s 73.

good mobility, stays cool under pressure. A lot of things to like. Good pocket command.

People aren't forgettign Devitto was a rookie. They just understand he won't be in the NFL very long while it seems some Giants fans got swept up in the fantasy-mania.
To arbitrarily draw a conclusion on a player like DeVito on the basis on the basis of small sample size seems to me not only arbitrary but unwise.
Again I offer the case of the Unitas experience at the Steelers, (the NFL doormat since their founding in 1933 until their fist Super Bowl in 1974).
Not only did they screw up with Unitas, but as stated in the following article - "the team's list of "almost quarterbacks" is arguably even more impressive, Sid Luckman, Len Dawson and Unitas were all briefly Steelers before becoming Hall of Famers elsewhere".
https://steelersdepot.com/2024/04/steelers-flashback-art-rooney-jr-recalls-team-cutting-qb-johnny-unitas/
So much for "expert" NFL player evaluators. .....
I do admit I am an unrepentant "Rose Colored" glass wearing romantic, but from a cold pragmatic point of view, the Giants have seen what this kid can do and will give him a chance to succeed with more experience and a better team around him.
I am looking forward to seeing waht he can do in preseason and him forcing the Giants to make it "hard-as-heck" to let him go.

Coffee for everyone
If we can arrange something in the future; great times with in SF. Arizona would be ideal. I was there (Glendale AZ) in 2011, (Giants vs Cards, in October), their place is amazing. There's a lot of Giants fans
If that... We won those games because we had 11 turnovers in those 3 wins. That is like 4 a game. He wasn't some star throwing for 300+ yards. He took advantage of our Def have a run of good games.

You could bring up Kurt Warner example and then do the same thing you are doing here? With Warner out of football- - why not use that example in your "rose colored" view too? You know someone at your lcoal store that you saw throw a football and want to add him to the list? Its the same thing.
Please don't get me wrong - I don't hold malice toward you- but sometimes if you or others get "Rose Colored," -- I am not that. So when I say "You don't know what you are talking about," - it's not meant in malice.
Brings to mind that one guy (ex Giant) - Geno Smith, who languished in the NFL and then all-of-a-sudden found himself with the Seahawks ....
While I do appreciate your gracious comment about not harboring any malice (and I recognize my naivete' in matters football), please absolve me as I remain unimpressed by the less than perfect record of the formal NFL intelligentsia in determining who will achieve success as an NFL QB ...
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1047730-50-biggest-quarterback-busts-in-nfl-draft-history
Recall 1st round QB busts - Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Todd Marinovch, Heath Shuler, Rick Mirer, Andre Ware, Akili Smith, Todd Blackledge, Anre Ware, David Klingler, Dan McGwire, Cade McNown, Tim Couch, Jerry Tagge, Mike Phipps, Jim Druckenmiller,Kelly Stouffer, Jack Thompson, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Vince Young, Tommy Maddox, Rich Campbell, JP Losman, Jeff George, Kyle Boller, Richard Todd, Tony Eason, Brady Quinn, Mark Malone, etc,, etc.
Yes, there have been undrafted QBs go on to have very nice careers.
What the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Devito isn't good. He could've been a first rounder and I would still say the same (it only takes one team, remember!). He may not even be on an NFL roster in the next year or two.

Then being wrong doesn't make you right about Devitto, does it?
Quarterback evaluations are a crapshoot, whether the subjects in question are glittery first rounders, late rounders (Brady)or free agents (like Tony Romo).
Take a look at this alarming 1st round bust rate -
https://www.reddit.com/r/CHIBears/comments/185bvzz/theres_at_least_a_78_chance_that_a_1st_round_qb/
So given that history of NFL competence, my argument remains that just because he wasn't drafted it's to early (with a small sample size) to declare about DeVito - "he isn't any good"
I do agree, it's up-hill for him, BUT he HAS shown potential under difficult circumstances. Therefore , I do think the Giants will give him another chance. Till he crashes, I still maintain - Don't sleep on Tommy.

Every position is a crapshoot. Every time you sign or draft a young player it's a crapshoot. The point is you make an educated investment based on production, intangibles, physical traits, etc.

In 1955, the Steelers had Unitas and let him go. In 1957, they had Earl Morral and Len Dawson and let them both go.
In a span of 3 season, they had two HOF qb's and a SB Qb and let them all go.
