are elsewhere and though TE is pretty useful and for many teams a weapon, in Daboll's offense, even with the Bills they found TE's later in the draft (Knox I believe was a 3rd pick). We can't go for a TE in RD 1 right now based on our overall needs at more critical areas.
I think it comes down to whether Waller was an opportunity or a strategy.
If the offensive thesis is build around a tight end that can easily move to the slot or outside, and make transitioning from 12 to 11 personnel an on demand decision in effect, then I think Bowers would certainly be in play after a slight trade down.
The positional value argument really starts to thin out around pick 10 with a 4/21.8M slot. 5M AAV is a very fair price for a good tight end.
So it’s not happening unless they trade down a bit. And I think teams are a little shy about taking a tight end in the top ten. Kyle Pitts was supposed to be a game breaker and was talked about as the next big thing when he was drafted. He hasn’t exactly set the league on fire.

all about how you use him. Read Sy's comments on Bowers.
Pitts doesn't have a QB or isn't being used correctly. I'mn not saying I'm a proponent of drafting Bowers....but he is an elite player and I think he can play WR. He's the kind of player you change your offense for to feature him.
Pitts was a 1K, 15 YPC the one year he played with a professional quarterback. I'm pretty bullish on his prospects this year.
I think Pitts looks like a very good TE but the Falcons have won 7 games each season he’s been on the team and his statistical results are totally unimpressive. Slayton has had a decisively bigger impact on their offense than Pitts.

TEs don’t matter in the passing game.
Tight Ends don't matter in the passing game? This seems like a very shallow observation.

We saw that in play during FA.
I think the OP meant if we trade down.

Who was the last TE drafted at the top of the first round who had any impact on making his team better? I can't think of a single one.

In the teens maybe but no way in the top 10
Yeah - I’m with you on that - BUT up to this point, his career has been a massive disappointment.

TEs don’t matter in the passing game.
The TE position is morphing and becoming a more significant part of offenses.
If you look at the really good teams most of them have premiere TEs.
The TE has become the red zone threat, the security blanket, the short-yardage target, and the match-up nightmare for CBs and safeties.
They can dictate coverages open the field for the X Y and slot receivers, and help in pass protection and run blocking.
The caveat is that the TE must be versatile and have exceptional traits. I don't know if Bowers can be that player.
No offense.

The great ones are rarely drafted early .
