Looks like his Athlete wife Kelsey Plum just posted online they're splitting up.....Can't see him coming back especially now. Head can't be in the right place.

It sounds like Darren Waller will be retiring. The Giants have had trouble getting in touch with him throughout the offseason but all indications are that he will retire. The expectation from the team is that he will not be playing in 2024.

That makes this suck for his marriage even more.
If he was going to retire, nothing would stop him from being back in with her. She certainly makes it sound like this was more of his choice than hers..
But bear in mind that they both played for Las Vegas-area teams. Then Waller gets traded to the East Coast and they have to maintain a long-distance relationship. Couldn't have been easy.
I think Sabrina Ionescu is married to a Raiders player. They should've just swapped spouses :D
let's not forget we are all humans. He has struggled with substance abuse in the past and it is remarkable how he turned his life around. Hopefully, he handles this well.
He’s retiring because he’s going through a divorce?
Can you share any other leaps in logic? I’m pretty sure there are any number of NFL players who have gone through divorces. Hell, it probably makes it MORE likely he returns, he’ll need the paycheck!

Don't see how it would have been much of an issue, the WNBA plays May-Sept, its not like the NBA season from Oct-June

May until October. Playoffs were in October. So Waller was in New York for Training Camp, preseason and half of the regular season without his wife.
it does help make some sense of this odd situation with Waller.
He's clearly going through a bunch of personal stuff off the field and may not have his head on straight. No clue if this divorce makes it more or less likely he'll want to play football though.
Maybe this is what was holding him back and a fresh start is what he needs. Personally I'm on the side of "if you're thinking of retiring, you're already done" though. Hard for me to believe he comes back and is very good.

How dare you show humanity.
Schoen wasted the capital gained in the Toney deal for this guy?
but he's moving now like he did during the season, it sure looks like physical decline and injury waiting to happen. Add in the divorce and retirement talk on top, and it may be best for NYG if he retires.
On IG. Kelsey Plum has been too. This didn’t just happen today and likely points to whatever he’s doing to “ find himself “. She posted that she walked through fire for him but it’s time to go. I think his head has been in a different spot for some time and retirement is inevitable.
sign for what he might be doing in his personal life. I hope he takes care of himself and at the same time I say goodbye as a Giants player- enjoy retirement.
Based on the reports we were getting I was waiting for Gronk/Kelce/Tony G/Gates all rolled into one. One of the great misleading training camps of all time.

It's generally not a great sign when you can't reach someone, and sadly something that is usually associated with people fighting personal demons. I really hope that is not the case with Waller.
history of problems with stuff ......and if he not strong during these hard times it's easy to fall back to that crap...hopefully this will make him go hard with something to prove.

Having been through a divorce of my own choosing...
...it doesn't matter, it sucks for everyone. Also, Darren Waller has been open and a real adult about his personal struggles and helping youth deal with addiction/alcohol/mental health etc. and to get the help they need.
I can only wish he and his ex the best and I think they should be cut some slack that he/they have not been able to make important career decisions, such as retirement.
I would like him to play for the Giants if it is healthy for him.

I was honestly thinking it may be the other way around. I’ve been in recovery for a little bit of time now, and I hate assuming the worst, I’m just hoping that a backslide didn’t cause some of the behavior we’ve seen from him as of late. Injuries and pain meds are a scary proposition as an addict. This is, however, 100% speculation based on nothing more than my own experience. Just want to make that clear. To echo Robbie, empathy is paramount.
You’re right. I know you weren’t singling me out, but on re-read my comment comes off shittier than I’d have liked. My point was that he seems like he may be in pain, or a little lost, but that’s heavy stuff to toss out there on my part based on mostly projecting my own shit. Needed the reality check.
And their pockets light.
(alimony: he'll need the $. Sheesh, Schoen)
He really has strung along the decision though, just retire already.
That was my initial reaction.
This COULD be the explanation for his indecision to date (and why the NYG were tolerant); that is, he was focusing on fixing his marriage.
He is now free to live separately and I agree he needs something on which to focus.
Can't help but wonder if that played a role.

There we go.
That was my initial thought. We know about Waller's problems with drugs in the past. I hope for his sake he hasn't fallen down that rabbit hole again.

So Schoen signed a guy to multi-million dollar contract that had known demons?

Yup, something familiar plus the locker room. Maybe he hangs them up but I'm less convinced now than I was previously.
